Abstract: A scheme for synchronizing message folders between a messaging system and a mobile communication device. An embodiment comprises one or more of the following: upon establishment of a communication link between the messaging system and the mobile communication device, retrieving and tagging a source folder structure from a data store associated with the messaging system and updating a target folder structure on the mobile communication device based on the source folder structure. Thereafter, messages stored on the messaging system and the mobile communication device are compared to find matches that are moved within the respective folder structures based on a move flag status scheme.

Abstract: A scheme for redirecting e-mail messages and message attachments to a user of a mobile data communication device that is associated with a host system and communicates therewith via a wireless gateway. In embodiment, a method comprises, among others, determining occurrence of a trigger event configured with respect to a user for controlling redirection of data items addressed to the user at the host system, automatically detecting arrival of a data item at the host system from a message sender, the data item being directed to an address associated with the user at the host system, the data item including an e-mail message and a message attachment; and transmitting at least a portion of the data item from the host system to the mobile data communication device via the wireless gateway using a network address of the mobile data communication device.

Abstract: A scheme for redirecting data items from a messaging host system. One embodiment comprises one or more of the following: setting a redirection flag configured for a user associated with a mobile communication device to enable continuous redirection of data items thereto received from the messaging host system over a wide area data network until the redirection flag is reset to indicate cessation of redirection of the data items; automatically detecting receipt of a new data item from the messaging host system for a user over the wide area data network; and upon determining that the new data item is to be redirected, processing at least a portion of the new data item for transmission thereof to the user's mobile communication device over a wireless network.

Abstract: A system and method for integrating voice and data operations into a single mobile device capable of simultaneously performing data and voice actions. The mobile device working in a network capable of exchanging both cell phone calls and data items to the mobile device. By wearing an earphone or an ear-bud device the user is capable of dealing with voice conversations while working with data centric information related to the current caller. By providing a data-centric device with voice capabilities there is a new range of features that allow incoming data events to trigger outgoing voice events.

Abstract: A scheme for redirecting messages with an appropriate tag line. In one embodiment, a method comprises one or more of the following: receiving a notification that a message is available for redirection, the message comprising an e-mail originated from a user's mobile data communication device; obtaining a user ID related to the message and retrieving a user record based on the user ID; obtaining a site ID related to a messaging host system associated with the user and retrieving a site information record based on the site ID; if a user tag line information in the user record is blank, examining a site tag line in the site information record for the user; and appending the site tag line found in the site information record to the message before transmission to a recipient.

An embodiment comprises one or more of the following: upon receiving a message over a wireless network for a user, determining that the message is a redirected message facilitated by a redirector component associated with a messaging server for the user having a mail address thereat, wherein the determining is based on verifying a redirection flag associated with the message; presenting at least a portion of the message to the user; generating a status signal responsive to a change in the message's status upon the presenting; and transmitting the status signal to the redirector component.

Abstract: A scheme for mobile message delivery operable with a wireless mobile data device. In one embodiment, a method comprises one or more of the following: determining that a message received over a wireless network is from a messaging system for a user associated with the wireless mobile data device; determining that a redirection flag associated with the message is set; removing an outer envelope of the message and for presenting the message to the user; and transmitting a reply message to the messaging system, wherein the reply message is in response to the received message and contains only a difference between the received message and any additional material generated by the user.

Abstract: A unified messaging system, method and user interface is provided for a handheld mobile communication device. The method may include the following steps: (a) receiving a notification signal at the wireless device via the wireless data channel indicating that the unified messaging system received and stored a voice mail message intended for a user of the wireless device; (b) transmitting a command signal from the wireless device to the unified messaging system via the wireless data channel, the command signal including a message retrieval command; (c) receiving via the wireless voice channel a voice call initiated by a voice mail system component of the unified messaging system in response to the message retrieval command transmitted from the wireless device; and (d) receiving the voice mail message from the unified messaging system via the wireless voice channel.

Abstract: A notification system and method for a mobile data communication device is provided. A client-based software program operates at the mobile communication device to manage and execute user-selectable notification schemes (“notification module”) in response to data items transmitted to the mobile device from a host system via a communications network. The user configures the notification module to execute certain audible, visual and/or tactile notifications in response to certain types of messages being received at the mobile device.

The wireless network sends and receives transmissions to and from the mobile device. The proxy content server is coupled to information source and the wireless network and receives information from the information source. In addition, the proxy content server stores information received from the information source to one of a plurality of channels based on pre-defined information categories, and automatically transmits information from a selected channel over the wireless network to the mobile device.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for increasing security and control of voice communication sessions, such as Push-To-Talk (PTT) over Cellular (PoC) sessions, using digital certificates are disclosed. A certificate control mechanism of a private communication network is used to help facilitate secure PoC sessions for mobile communication devices associated with the private network. The certificate control mechanism of includes a certificate controller which is adapted to communicate with a Certificate Authority (CA) component which produces and stores a plurality of digital certificates for the mobile devices. The certificate controller is further adapted to communicate with one of a PoC server and a PoC group list server through a public communication network (e.g. the Internet) so as to provide the plurality of digital certificates for secure PoC communication sessions for chat groups which include the plurality of mobile communication devices.

Abstract: Systems and methods for enabling data messaging in a wireless communications system is provided in one embodiment. Wireless messaging is enabled by having a host service send enable messages to a mobile communications device. Once an enable message has been received at the mobile communications device, the generation of an event causes the mobile communications device to send a fetch message to the host service to retrieve messages.

Abstract: Systems and methods for a wireless communication system used for transmitting and receiving information, the information not containing identification of the information's intended recipient. A method for transmitting payload information, the method comprising providing verification information scrambling a portion of the verification information and transmitting the payload information with the scrambled verification information portion. Also provided is a method for processing transmitted payload information incorporated into an encoded information message with scrambled verification information, the method comprising receiving the encoded information message descrambling at least a portion of the scrambled verification information and comparing said descrambled verification information with predetermined verification information processing said payload information based on said comparison.

Abstract: A device for and a method of dynamically refreshing presentation of icons for objects processed on an electronic device are provided. The method comprises: establishing a triggering event to initiate refreshment of a layout of the icons displayed on a display in the device; upon detection of the triggering event, creating a ranking of the objects processed by the device utilizing activity logs providing their recent levels of activity; identifying a most frequently processed object from the ranking; and automatically refreshing the layout of icons to highlight an icon associated with the most frequently processed object. The device incorporates modules to perform the method.

Abstract: There is provided a multi-tap keyboard user interface with auditory feedback. In one embodiment, there is provided a method for controlling operation of a mobile device having a plurality of input devices, comprising associating groups of one or more keys of the input devices to define at least one input region and in response to an input received from said input devices, performing an associated action for operating the device, responding equally to any input from a same input region. A repeated input (multi-tap) to a same input region cycles through a plurality of actions associated with the input region. Auditory feedback comprising a vocalized description of the action is provided. The multi-tap keyboard user interface with auditory feedback may adapt a mobile device (e.g. PDA or smart phone) for use by visually impaired users.

Abstract: A device and a method of responding to a received interrupt event received by a communication device is provided. The method comprises accessing data associated with a calendar application and/or a location application to determine a current state of availability of a user of the device using data; determining whether a response action is to be sent in response to the event when the device is note available; and sending the response action. The device incorporates modules to perform the method.
