  • Patent number: 8484141
Abstract: A method for providing an evaluation/verification of the correctness of an ontology is described. The method includes loading a first ontology associated with a first rule set. an extended ontology and an extended rule set are generated based at least in part on the first ontology and the first rule set. The extended rule set is applied to the extended ontology. The method also includes determining (e.g., by a data processor) a correctness of the extended ontology. Results are generated which include the correctness. Apparatus and computer readable media are also described.

  • Patent number: 8374822
Abstract: Test characteristics are determined at vertices of a rectangle defined on a sequential probability ratio test plot of a number of failures of a new physical system versus a number of failures of a baseline physical system. Based on the test characteristics, errors of first and second order are approximated as planes. Based on the approximating, intercepts of accept and reject boundaries are estimated. Based on slopes of the planes and actual values of the errors of the first and second orders, a starting point is determined on a graph of values of an intercept of the reject boundary and values of an intercept of the accept boundary. A minimum of an operating characteristic function is determined by alternative advances, commencing at the starting point, parallel to an axis representing the accept boundary intercept and an axis representing the reject boundary intercept.

  • Patent number: 8356245
Abstract: A document corpus is annotated by given annotators and aggregates of the given annotators to generate a corpus of pre-annotated documents with given annotations. The same document corpus is annotated by a subject annotator to have subject annotations. The subject annotations are decomposed into superpositions of the given annotations. The decomposed subject annotations are mapped to a most representative superposition of the given annotations. The subject annotator may be mapped to the aggregate of given annotators corresponding to the most representative compatible superposition, resulting in a meaningful new aggregate annotator.

  • Patent number: 8327294
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for controlling operation of a cursor on a display screen of a computer system. In the operation of the computer system, one or more areas on the display screen are designated as user interface areas for receiving input from a user via a Graphical User Interface. The preferred method of this invention comprises the steps of, for each of the user interface areas, designating an area on the display screen as an associated cursor-auto area; and the user applying input to the computer system to move the cursor on the display screen and into one of the cursor-auto areas. When the cursor moves into said one of the cursor-auto areas, the computer system automatically performs a predefined operation to associate visually the cursor with the user interface area associated with said one of the cursor-auto areas.

  • Patent number: 8301613
Abstract: Disclosed is a method, system and a computer program for correlating an incident service ticket with an incident resource ticket. The method includes, in response to a creation of an incident service ticket in a certain service category; searching with a data processor for open incident resource tickets of the same or similar category; searching with the data processor based on a set of similarity rules for corresponding critical configuration items defined in business service configuration items and, if both searches succeed, searching with the data processor found incident resource tickets ordered by time using found critical configuration items and, if a match is found, declaring the incident service ticket to be correlated with the matching incident resource ticket.

  • Patent number: 8285698
Abstract: In general, the present invention protects actual search queries submitted to web search engines using a set (i.e., at least one) of supplemental queries (hereinafter referred to as securing search queries). As a result, collections of search queries will not form statistically stable categories, and will not disclose the search subject. Any hits resulting from securing search queries will be filtered from results that are returned to the requestor. In addition, the securing search queries can be associated with protective Internet Protocol addresses to reduce the possibility of the requestor of the actual search query to be identified.

  • Patent number: 8214734
Abstract: Evaluating the performance of a text analysis engine is provided. A plurality of pre-annotated reference documents and a set of annotation types associated with the pre-annotated reference documents are received. Annotation contexts of reference annotations in the plurality of pre-annotated reference documents are analyzed using the set of annotation types. Similar annotation contexts are identified between the reference annotations and the set of annotation types. Responsive to identifying the similar annotation contexts, the similar annotation contexts are clustered thereby forming a plurality of reference annotation clusters. A set of reference content heterogeneity scores are computed based on the number of reference annotation clusters for each annotation type in the set of annotation types. An integral reference content rate for the set of annotation types is then computed and output to a user.
