  • Patent number: 9830829
Abstract: A system and method are provided for integrating voice communication systems with voice recognition devices or units and myriad other data sources to provide a harmonization between intended aircraft operations and actual aircraft operations, including logical components to provide a mechanism to flag certain alert communications that signal the initiation of particular response scenarios based on detected terms and track initiation of pre-planned processes to address specific events that are signaled through the use of the detected terms. Information from myriad data sources is collected and integrated to provide an indication of intended operations for an aircraft. A data comparison device compares the indicated real-time intended operations of the aircraft with actual monitored operations of the aircraft to discern unacceptable deviations.

  • Patent number: 9824593
Abstract: A distributed system for flight and route management (FARM) of one or more aircraft of the system may include onboard processing devices for combining sensor data local to an aircraft with cloud-based data received through the system from other aircraft or from ground-based processing devices, thereby generating situation models of each aircraft relative to its flight path and in the context of current and predictive conditions (weather, traffic, terrain, threats, etc.). The FARM system may evaluate situation models against prioritized constraint sets of business rules or policies associated with each aircraft's flight plan to determine, crosscheck, and implement possible modifications to the flight plan. Localized aircraft data and flight plan modifications may be propagated through the system via a variety of communications networks to provide synchronized, holistic airspace data portraits to aircraft and ground control alike.

  • Patent number: 9824689
Abstract: Voice-operable avionic systems and methods supporting utilization of speech recognition to facilitate control of avionic systems are disclosed. Utilizing speech recognition to control avionic systems may help reduce the head-down time of the flight crew. Safety features may also be implemented to ensure safety-critical commands are carried out as intended when commands are received through speech recognition. In addition, voice-operable avionic systems configured in accordance with embodiments of the inventive concepts disclosed herein may be implemented in manners that can help reduce the complexity and cost associated with obtaining certifications from aviation authorities.

  • Patent number: 9666084
Abstract: Methods and systems for identifying and displaying potentially hazardous segments on a planned route of a vehicle are disclosed. A method may include: predicting a movement of a condition of concern; analyzing the movement of the condition of concern and a movement of a vehicle traveling along a planned route to generate a projection of the condition of concern onto the planned route, wherein the projection indicates conditions the vehicle is predicted to encounter at a plurality of positions along the planned route; determining whether a portion of the planned route is potentially hazardous based on the projection of the condition of concern; and visually identifying the portion of the planned route that is potentially hazardous to a user. The method may also be utilized to facilitate a reroute process.

  • Patent number: 9443438
Abstract: Present novel and non-trivial methods for electronically recording a taxi clearance on a display unit are disclosed. In one method, an interactive surface map is displayed from which selections of an assigned takeoff runway and taxiway(s) stated in a taxi clearance may be made electronically through advanced gesturing techniques. These selections highlight the surfaces stated in the taxi clearance. The selections may be made through a series of touch screen taps and/or by the grabbing, dragging, and releasing of a “rubber band” which snaps into place over the selected surface. In another method, an auto-route generating algorithm may be employed to create a preliminary taxi clearance after a presumed runway for takeoff has been selected by the pilot. Then, as the taxi clearance is being received, changes may be made through the pilot's interaction with the graphical user interfaces commensurate with the actual taxi clearance.

  • Patent number: 8880339
Abstract: A schematic display for presenting vertical navigation (VNAV) data is disclosed. A planned route such as a flight plan is divided into a series of VNAV legs, and only a VNAV schematic that corresponds to the active VNAV leg is displayed. The VNAV schematic in accordance with the present disclosure is a profile-view schematic for the active VNAV leg, providing a visual representation indicating the locations of the upcoming Top of Climb (TOC) or Top of Descent (TOD). Additional VNAV data may also be presented to provide content context. Since the schematic display in accordance with the present disclosure only displays VNAV data relevant to the active VNAV leg at a given time, the complexities associated with displaying the VNAV schematic is reduced, making the VNAV data easy to read and understand.
