Publication number: 20090080368Abstract: A system for bi-directional data content transfer between a plurality of mobile platforms, such as aircraft or cruise ships, and a ground-based control segment. The system includes the ground-based control segment, a space segment and a mobile system disposed on each mobile platform. The ground-based control segment includes an antenna which is used to transmit encoded RF signals representative of data content to the space segment. The space segment includes a plurality of satellite transponders, with one of the transponders being designated by the ground-based control segment to transpond the encoded RF signals to the mobile system. The mobile system includes steerable receive and transmit antennas. The receive antenna receives the encoded RF signals from the satellite transponder, which are thereafter decoded, demodulated, D/A converted by a communications subsystem and transmitted to a server. Publication number: 20090038720Abstract: A method for the heat treatment of a casting produced by high pressure die casting, that may exhibit blister forming porosity in the as-cast condition, of an age-hardenable aluminium alloy, includes solution treating the casting by heating the casting to and within a temperature range enabling solute elements to be taken into solid solution. The casting then is cooled to terminate the solution treatment by quenching the casting to a temperature below 100° C. The cooled casting is held in a temperature range enabling natural and/or artificial ageing. The solution treatment is conducted to achieve a level of solute element solution enabling age-hardening without expansion of pores in the casting causing unacceptable blistering of the casting.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 19, 2005Publication date: February 12, 2009Inventors: Roger Neil Lumley, Robert Geoffrey O'Donnell, Dayalan Romesh Gunasegaram, Michel Givord

Publication number: 20080034022Abstract: A method, system, and computer-usable medium for updating references while incrementally compacting a heap. A compaction manager initializes each entry in a compaction data structure with a terminating value, where each entry within the compaction data structure corresponds to an address within a first compaction region. The compaction manager locates a first entry within the compaction data structure corresponding to the address of the first object. The compaction manager stores an address of the second object in the first entry and stores in the second object the value stored in the first entry. The compaction manager calculates a new address for the first object, traverses a chain of references starting with the first entry and updates the chain with the new address until encountering the terminating value, and moves the first object to the new address.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 7, 2006Publication date: February 7, 2008Inventor: Geoffrey O. Patent number: 6448899Abstract: A telecommunications outlet with a visual indicator that informs a user that the outlet is capable of supplying power to a network device in a network system compliant with IEEE 802.3. The outlet includes a visual indicator which activates when the outlet receives a load verification signal in accordance with IEEE 802.3. A network core device transmits the load verification signal to the outlet to determine whether there is a qualified network device connected to the outlet, and the type of the connected network device for the purpose of transmitting the appropriate power level to the network device. If the load verification signal is not present at the outlet, the outlet is not capable of supplying power to a network device. The outlet includes a visual indicator and a visual indicator driver circuit. The driver circuit generates a driving signal in response to the load verification signal.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2000Date of Patent: September 10, 2002Assignee: Nortel Networks LimitedInventor: Geoffrey O Thompson

Patent number: RE40999Abstract: In a network device such as a network switch having a port coupled to a communications medium dedicated to a single virtual local area network and another port coupled to a communications medium shared among multiple virtual local area networks for transmitting data frames between the dedicated communications medium and the shared communications medium, a method of identifying the virtual network associated with each data frame received by the network switch when transmitting the data frames over the shared communications medium. The method comprises receiving data frames from the dedicated communications medium coupled to one port, and, with respect to each data frame so received, inserting a new type field and a virtual network identifier field. The contents of the new type field indicate the data frame comprises a virtual network identifier field.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2002Date of Patent: November 24, 2009Assignee: Nortel Networks LimitedInventors: Paul James Frantz, Geoffrey O.
