    Abstract: A method and apparatus for noise cancellation in a multi-channel communication system is disclosed. In one embodiment this system is configured to cancel FEXT on a victim channel utilizing the signals received on the other channels. The processing benefits gained by a receiver's other filters, such as for example, the FFE and DFE filters, is utilized when generating a FEXT cancellation signal. As a result, the complexity of the apparatus that generates the FEXT cancellation signal may be made less complex since part of the processing burden is performed by other filter apparatus. In one configuration pre-code FEXT cancellation occurs in that a pre-code FEXT filter generates one or more pre-code FEXT cancellation signals corresponding to each of the other channels. The pre-code FEXT cancellation signals are combined, prior to transmission, with the signals associated with each of the other channels, to thereby pre-cancel FEXT prior to transmission.

    Abstract: A process for removing aluminosilicate-based material (e.g., “CMAS”) from a substrate is described. The material is treated with an aqueous composition containing at least one acid having the formula HXAF6, in which A is Si, Ge, Ti, Zr, Al, and Ga; and x is 1-6. Treatment of the substrate is often carried out by immersion in an aqueous bath. The process is also very effective for removing CMAS-type material from cavities in the substrate, e.g., cooling holes in a gas turbine component. Related compositions are also described.

The method entails subjecting the ceramic coating (18) to an aqueous solution containing an acid fluoride salt, such as ammonium bifluoride (NH4HF2) or sodium bifluoride (NaHF2), and a corrosion inhibitor. The method is capable of completely removing the ceramic coating (18) without removing or damaging the underlying substrate material, which may include a metallic bond coat (16).

    Abstract: A method and device are provided for performing intraluminal tissue welding for anastomosis of a hollow organ. A retractable catheter assembly is delivered through the hollow organ and consists of a catheter connected to an optical fiber, an inflatable balloon, and a biocompatible patch mounted on the balloon. The disconnected ends of the hollow organ are brought together on the catheter assembly, and upon inflation of the balloon, the free ends are held together on the balloon to form a continuous channel while the patch is deployed against the inner wall of the hollow organ. The ends are joined or "welded" using laser radiation transmitted through the optical fiber to the patch. A thin layer of a light-absorbing dye on the patch can provide a target for welding. The patch may also contain a bonding agent to strengthen the bond. The laser radiation delivered has a pulse profile to minimize tissue damage.

    Abstract: A technique for reducing the spurious signal content in digital sinusoid synthesis. Spur reduction is accomplished through dithering both amplitude and phase values prior to word-length reduction. The analytical approach developed for analog quantization is used to produce new bounds on spur performance in these dithered systems. Amplitude dithering allows output word-length reduction without introducing additional spurs. Effects of periodic dither similar to that produced by pseudo-noise (PN) generator are analyzed. This phase dithering method provides a spur reduction of 6(M+1) dB per phase bit when the dither consists of M uniform variates. While the spur reduction is at the expense of an increase in system noise, the noise power can be made white, making the power spectral density small. This technique permits the use of a smaller number of phase bits addressing sinusoid look-up tables, resulting in an exponential decrease in system complexity.

    Abstract: A vehicle illuminator is provided which acts as a conventional marker light, and additionally illuminates advertisements on the surface of a vehicle. To allow both functions to be performed by a single illuminator, at least one bulb, a reflector, and a transparent insert are combined with one or more conventional marker lights. Light from at least one additional bulb is reflected through a clear portion of a housing by the reflector, the reflector being positioned such that the reflected light illuminates a selected surface. Thus, the light, in addition to acting as a conventional marker light, illuminates advertisements on vehicle and trailer surfaces, making these advertisements more visible, especially during periods of low visibility.

    Abstract: A method of formulating and packaging decision-making elements into a long constraint length Viterbi decoder which involves formulating the decision-making processors as individual Viterbi butterfly processors that are interconnected in a deBruijn graph configuration. A fully distributed architecture, which achieves high decoding speeds, is made feasible by novel wiring and partitioning of the state diagram. This partitioning defines universal modules, which can be used to build any size decoder, such that a large number of wires is contained inside each module, and a small number of wires is needed to connect modules. The total system is modular and hierarchical, and it implements a large proportion of the required wiring internally within modules and may include some external wiring to fully complete the deBruijn graph.

    Abstract: Method for forming glass containers by the blow and blow process in which a parison mold having a plurality of cavities is centrally positioned relative to a pair of blow molds having a plurality of cavities. The parisons are formed with their necks down in the parison mold from a charge of glass delivered to each cavity. Vacuum is applied to the neck area of the mold to form the finish portion of the container. A neck pin is pulled and air under pressure is fed to the interior of the area from which the neck pin is drawn to expand the glass within the parison mold at a continuous rate until the glass within the parison mold comes in contact with a baffle which closes the upper end of the parison mold. The parison mold is then opened and the parisons are transferred alternately from the parison mold to the blow molds where they are expanded into final shape. During the transfer of the parisons from the parison mold to the blow mold, air under pressure is maintained within the hollow interior of the parison.
