    Abstract: Methods and systems for accessing networks prohibit uncontrolled communications over a designated network. In some aspects, a method of controlling network access is disclosed. The method comprises transmitting, by a first access point, a first beacon over a first network to a station, the first beacon including information allowing the station to associate with the first access point. The method also comprises receiving a probe request at the first access point over the first network from the station, the probe request including a request for rules for associating with a second network. The method additional comprises generating a probe response to include the rules regarding associating with the second network, wherein the rules do not permit uncontrolled communications over the second network. The method further comprises transmitting the probe response from the first access point to the station over the first network.

In some implementations, the wireless device may be in an unassociated state and may transmit the uplink communication without establishing a formal wireless session with the AP. The uplink communication may include a request for the AP to embed AP-provided data to the uplink communication before forwarding it the remote destination. This disclosure includes techniques to prevent flooding and unauthorized uplink communications being used for a denial of service attack on the remote destination.

    Abstract: A relaxed threshold for synchronous access in unlicensed spectrum is disclosed. According to the aspects described herein, nodes accessing a shared communication spectrum using a local synchronous access mode may attempt access via a listen before talk (LBT) procedure using a local synchronous energy detection (ED) threshold. The local synchronous ED threshold is relaxed relative to a standard ED threshold otherwise used for access to the shared communication spectrum. The relaxed nature of the local synchronous ED threshold allows local synchronous access nodes a higher probability to gain access to the shared communication channel. To prevent interference with global synchronous access nodes, the global synchronous access nodes are also able to use the relaxed, local synchronous ED threshold as long as it ends the resulting channel occupancy time (COT) at the next local synchronization boundary.
