  • Patent number: 10841912
Abstract: A network node in a wireless communication network communicates an enhanced Physical Downlink Control Channel (ePDCCH) to a user equipment (UE). This begins with the transmission, to the UE, of a configuration message that indicates the mappings of ePDCCH onto resource elements for both a first ePDCCH set and a second ePDCCH set. The mapping for the first ePDCCH set avoids the use of resource elements already in use by a first type of signal (e.g., a Cell-Specific Reference Signal or CRS), whereas the mapping for the second ePDCCH set avoids the use of resource elements in use by a second type of signal. The choice of an ePDCCH set for transmitting data to a UE may then be dynamically made in order to avoid interference caused by the first or second types of signal.

  • Patent number: 10827375
Abstract: A system and method for providing an eNodeB with the flexibility to configure a Channel State Information (CSI) report to match a specific Coordinated Multipoint (CoMP) transmission hypothesis, which is a candidate for a downlink transmission to a User Equipment (UE) is disclosed. A UE receives, from the eNodeB, a configuration message that specifies a CSI report. The CSI report is specified by a particular interference hypothesis and a particular desired signal hypothesis corresponding to data transmission over at least one effective channel characterized by a specific reference signal. The UE estimates interference according to the interference hypothesis, and/or estimates at least one effective channel by performing measurements on the specific reference signal, and determines a CSI report based on the interference estimation and on the estimated effective channel. The UE also transmits the CSI report to the eNodeB.

  • Patent number: 10813120
Abstract: A base station in a communications network broadcasts a cell-specific instruction to a plurality of mobile terminals in a cell served by the base station. The cell-specific instruction indicates that an uplink symbol in each of multiple subsequent subframes has been semi-statically configured for sounding reference signal (SRS) transmission. The base station determines that a first mobile terminal of the plurality of mobile terminals is to use the uplink symbol in a given one of the multiple subsequent subframes for aperiodic SRS transmission, and in response, signals a terminal-specific instruction to the first mobile terminal. The terminal-specific instruction is distinct from the cell-specific instruction and indicates that the first mobile terminal is to use the uplink symbol in the given subframe for aperiodic SRS transmission and not for data transmission.

  • Publication number: 20200322833
Abstract: A unified, rank independent mapping between antenna ports and group/code pairs. Each antenna port is uniquely associated with one code division multiplexing (CDM) group and one orthogonal cover code (OCC). The mapping between antenna ports and group/code pairs is chosen such that, for a given antenna port, the CDM group and OCC will be the same for every transmission rank.

  • Publication number: 20200287601
Abstract: Methods and arrangements are described for Multi User Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MU-MIMO) signaling via Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) antennas between a base station and one of a plurality of mobile terminals supporting both Single User and Multi User Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (SU-MIMO and MU-MIMO) signaling modes. Switching between the modes is supported, and the modes have partly shared signaling. SU-MIMO mode signaling which is not needed for MU-MIMO mode signaling is identified. Data bits of the identified signaling is interpreted to comprise signaling information associated with MU-MIMO mode.

  • Patent number: 10771129
Abstract: A method for assisting the adaptation of a signal from a first node to a second node is provided. The first node communicates with the second node in a wireless communication system over a radio link. The second node has a codebook comprising a set of possible information alternatives for assisting the adaptation of a signal received from the first node. The second node may select an information alternative from the codebook and send it to the first node to assist the first node in adapting the signal. The first node is configured with a number of subsets, each comprising a part of the possible information alternatives. The first node requests that the second node restrict the selection of information alternatives to one of the subsets, and in response, receives an information alternative from the second node that is selected from among the subsets configured according to the configuration request.

  • Patent number: 10771998
Abstract: Embodiments of systems and methods for flexible Channel State Information (CSI) feedback in a cellular communications network are disclosed. In some embodiments, a base station configures a wireless device with a set of CSI-RS resources, dynamically configures a CSI-RS resource from the set of CSI-RS resources for measurement, and receives a CSI report from the wireless device determined from the CSI-RS resource dynamically configured for measurement. In this manner, the base station is enabled to dynamically configure and re-configure the CSI-RS resource(s) for measurement by the wireless device, which in turn provides flexible CSI feedback that is particularly well-suited for embodiments in which the base station transmits beamformed CSI-RS.

  • Patent number: 10756792
Abstract: A network node signals to a wireless communication device which precoders in a codebook are restricted from being used. The network node in this regard generates codebook subset restriction signaling that, for each of one or more groups of precoders, jointly restricts the precoders in the group by restricting a certain component (e.g., a certain beam precoder) that the precoders in the group have in common. This signaling may be for instance rank-agnostic signaling that jointly restricts the precoders in a group without regard to the precoders' transmission rank. Regardless, the network node sends the generated signaling to the wireless communication device.

  • Patent number: 10735058
Abstract: An objective problem of the invention is to provide a mechanism for improving the performance of a radio access network. According to a first aspect of the present invention, the object is achieved by a method in a first node for adapting a multi-antenna transmission to a second node over an effective channel. The first node and the second node are comprised in a wireless communication system. The method comprises the steps of obtaining at least one symbol stream and determining a precoding matrix having a block diagonal structure. The method comprises the further steps of precoding the at least one symbol stream with the determined precoding matrix, and transmitting the at least one precoded symbol stream over the effective channel to the second node.

  • Patent number: 10595290
Abstract: A procedure for synchronization of re-configuration of RRC procedures between the radio base station and the UE is achieved by associating a new configuration to be used by a UE with an additional UE identity. The UE is normally identified by a first UE identity, but is informed in a re-configuration message that the UE also has the additional UE identity. The UE is identified by the additional UE identity when the new configuration is to be activated. Hence, when the radio base station detects that the UE responds to requests, which included the additional UE identity, the radio base station can conclude that the UE has activated the new configuration.

  • Patent number: 10587324
Abstract: A method implemented by a wireless terminal of reporting channel state information to a wireless communication network is disclosed. The wireless terminal receives reference symbols on a set of channel state information reference symbol (CSI-RS) resources, and determines a common transmission rank for the set of CSI-RS resources, based on the reference symbols received on a subset of those CSI-RS resources. The terminal then generates CSI feedback as a function of the common transmission rank, and transmits the CSI feedback to the communication network. The CSI feedback may include the common transmission rank itself, or may include different transmission ranks for different CSI-RS resources each determined as a function of the common transmission rank. A complementary method in which a network node uses such a CSI feedback to perform rank adaptation for the set of CSI-RS resources is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10588116
Abstract: A high-power point and one or more low-power points transmit signals that are associated with the same cell-identifier in a heterogeneous cell deployment. The coverage areas corresponding to the low-power points fall at least partly within the coverage area for the high-power point, so that mobile stations within range of a low-power point are also within range of the high-power point, from a downlink perspective. The same CRS signals are transmitted by both the high-power (macro) point and some or all of the low-power (pico) points. At the same time, the network transmits CRS-based PDSCH for a particular UE on both the high-power point as well as on some or all of the low-power points. In some embodiments only a subset of the points, e.g., those points that the UE hears sufficiently well, participate in the PDSCH transmission using CRS for channel estimation.
