  • Patent number: 10547364
Abstract: A method implemented in a user equipment (UE) includes receiving a first reference signal (RS) from a first transmit antenna port and performing channel estimation based on the first RS. The method also includes obtaining an indication that the first RS and a second RS share a spatial property and receiving the second RS from a second transmit antenna port. The method further includes inferring the shared spatial property for the second RS based on the indication and performing channel estimation based on the second RS using the inferred spatial property.

  • Publication number: 20200015109
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing Channel State Information (CSI) feedback in a cellular communications network are disclosed. In some embodiments, a base station of a cellular communications network disables inter-subframe channel interpolation of CSI-RS estimates across subframes at the wireless device and receives one or more CSI reports from the wireless device that are generated by the wireless device with inter-subframe channel interpolation of C SI-RS estimates across subframes disabled in response to the base station disabling inter-subframe channel interpolation of CSI-RS estimates across subframes at the wireless device. In this manner, CSI feedback is improved particularly in embodiments in which the base station transmits a beamformed CSI-RS resource(s) and reuses the same CSI-RS resource(s) for different beams over time.

  • Patent number: 10517081
Abstract: A transmitting node uses different reference signal sequences for different types of enhanced control channels. An example method begins with generating (1410) a first reference signal sequence, from a first initialization value, and generating (1420) a second reference signal sequence, from a second initialization value. These reference signal sequences are associated with two corresponding enhanced control transmissions. A first enhanced control channel and reference symbols taken from the first reference signal sequence are transmitted (1430), using first time-frequency resources and a first set of transmission points or a first set of antenna ports or both, and a second enhanced control channel and reference symbols taken from the second reference signal sequence are also transmitted (1440), using a differing second set of transmission points and/or a differing second set of antenna ports and/or a differing second set of time-frequency resources, in the same subframe or group of subframes.

  • Patent number: 10498556
Abstract: A high-power point and one or more low-power points transmit signals associated with the same cell-identifier in a heterogeneous cell deployment. Coverage areas corresponding to the low-power points fall at least partly within the coverage area for the high-power point, so that mobile stations within range of a low-power point are also within range of the high-power point. Channel-state-information reference symbols, CSI-RS, are transmitted using different CSI-RS resources on different transmission points within the cell, while configuration of CSI-RS measurement resources is conducted on a UE-specific basis. The choice of measurement resources to be used is determined by the network, based on the properties of the channels from the transmission points to the UE. As the UE moves around within the cell, the network tracks the channel properties and reconfigures the CSI-RS resources measured by the UE, to correspond to the resource of the closest transmission point or points.

  • Publication number: 20190296811
Abstract: Method and apparatus for conveying precoding information in a control message (M) from a first node (400) to a second node (402), with information on properties of an associated wireless data transmission (D) between the first and second nodes employing spatial multiplexing and precoding for the data transmission. The first node determines precoding parameters (P) for signal transmission to the receiving node, optionally based on feedback reports (F) from the receiving node. The first node encodes control information bits in precoding information fields of the control message by means of values in TBS fields of the control message, such that the TBS field values determine the interpretation of the bits in the precoding information field(s). The control message (M) is then sent to the second node.

  • Publication number: 20190289484
Abstract: A system and method for providing an eNodeB with the flexibility to configure a Channel State Information (CSI) report to match a specific Coordinated Multipoint (CoMP) transmission hypothesis, which is a candidate for a downlink transmission to a User Equipment (UE) is disclosed. A UE receives, from the eNodeB, a configuration message that specifies a CSI report. The CSI report is specified by a particular interference hypothesis and a particular desired signal hypothesis corresponding to data transmission over at least one effective channel characterized by a specific reference signal. The UE estimates interference according to the interference hypothesis, and/or estimates at least one effective channel by performing measurements on the specific reference signal, and determines a CSI report based on the interference estimation and on the estimated effective channel. The UE also transmits the CSI report to the eNodeB.

  • Patent number: 10356814
Abstract: Systems and methods for search area-based control channel monitoring are provided. According to one exemplary embodiment, a method is performed by a control node for communication with a user equipment. Further, the communication is structured in frames with each frame having subframes. The method includes transmitting, by the control node, a control channel in a search area that is in a subset of the subframes for a frame so as to enable the user equipment to monitor the control channel in only the subset of the subframes for that frame.

  • Patent number: 10356637
Abstract: Method and apparatus for enabling accurate link quality estimation of a wireless link between a sending node and a receiving node. When the sending node receives link state reports from the receiving node, it estimates the current state of the wireless link. The sending node also determines a measurement adjusting parameter if the link state reports are deemed inaccurate in relation to the estimated link state, based on a deviation between the received link state reports and the estimated actual link state. The sending node then sends the determined measurement adjusting parameter to the receiving node, and the receiving node provides a link state report based on signal measurements adjusted by the measurement adjusting parameter. The adjusted link state report can then be used for link adaptation of the wireless link and/or for packet scheduling decisions.

  • Patent number: 10291302
Abstract: One aspect of the teachings presented herein provides advantages for sending precoder selection feedback from a transceiver to another transceiver, for use by the other transceiver as precoding recommendations. The transceiver generates two types of precoder selection feedback, where one type uses a smaller signaling payload than the other and therefore provides a distinct reduction in the signaling overhead associated with reporting precoding recommendations. The transceiver uses the reduced-overhead type of reporting when reporting at certain times, or on certain channels, or in response to control signaling. In one example, a UE in an LTE network sends precoder information to an eNodeB on the PUCCH by sending smaller-range index values that index only a subset of precoders, but sends full-range index values when reporting on the PUSCH, which index a larger set of precoders.

  • Publication number: 20190140712
Abstract: A network node signals to a wireless communication device which precoders in a codebook are restricted from being used. The network node in this regard generates codebook subset restriction signaling that, for each of one or more groups of precoders, jointly restricts the precoders in the group by restricting a certain component (e.g., a certain beam precoder) that the precoders in the group have in common. This signaling may be for instance rank-agnostic signaling that jointly restricts the precoders in a group without regard to the precoders' transmission rank. Regardless, the network node sends the generated signaling to the wireless communication device.

  • Patent number: 10250308
Abstract: The teachings herein present a method and apparatus that implement and use a factorized precoder structure that is advantageous in terms of performance and efficiency. In particular, the teachings presented herein disclose an underlying precoder structure that allows for certain codebook reuse across different transmission scenarios, including for transmission from a single Uniform Linear Array (ULA) of transmit antennas and transmission from cross-polarized subgroups of such antennas. According to this structure, an overall precoder is constructed from a conversion precoder and a tuning precoder. The conversion precoder includes antenna-subgroup precoders of size NT/2, where NT represents the number of overall antenna ports considered. Correspondingly, the tuning precoder controls the offset of beam phases between the antenna-subgroup precoders, allowing the conversion precoder to be used with cross-polarized arrays of NT/2 antenna elements and with co-polarized arrays of NT antenna elements.
