  • Patent number: 6557113
Abstract: The present invention relates to a data recovery technique for recovering unrecoverable data from a sector having a synchronization field damaged after formatting time or a synchronization mark that has been written improperly. The present invention may try conventional or traditional data recovery techniques first, but if these techniques are ineffective, these techniques can be bypassed in favor of an additional recovery mode. Based upon overall design parameters of a disk drive system and the recording medium format, the disk drive firmware estimates a synchronization mark starting position, analyzes the accuracy of that position and when re-synchronization has not yet occurred, the firmware makes iterative estimates within a window relative to the starting position, and analyzes these subsequent positions for accuracy as well. Once a synchronization mark is located, the data in the sector can be recovered.

  • Patent number: 6547689
Abstract: The angular motion translator is a device with direct mechanical coupling which allows a user to reliably and durably change the angular relationship between two elements in a rotating frame (i.e. two output shafts) by changing the angular relationship between two elements in a static reference frame, whereby the change in the angular relationship of the elements in the rotating frame is proportional to the change in the angular relationship of the elements in the static reference frame. Essentially, the angular motion translator is comprised of two linked identical planetary gear sets facing one another as mirror images. Matching elements in the two planetary gear sets are held static, although one of the static elements may be rotated with respect to the other, matching elements are rigidly attached together so that they rotate as a single unit, and the remaining matching elements are attached to either the input shaft and the inner output shaft or the outer output shaft respectively.

  • Publication number: 20020181443
Abstract: Apparatus and a method for serving telecommunications customers, using the transmission capabilities of a Packet Network. A customer having Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) that includes a Customer Premises Equipment (CPE)/Gateway for communicating with a Packet Network, is connected to a port of the Packet Network. The customer is connected to the Gateway of a Home Switch via the Packet Network, and is also connected to Gateways of one or more Guest Switches. The customer has telephone numbers in the Home Switch and each of the Guest Switches. Callers can call the customer as if that customer were directly served by the Home Switch or any of the Guest Switches, using the appropriate telephone numbers. The customer can call telephones accessible from the Home Switch as well as any of the Guest Switches by specifying to the CPE/Gateway that the connection via the Packet Network is to be to a port of the selected Home or Guest Switch. Connections are then completed from that selected switch.

  • Publication number: 20020184264
Abstract: A method and apparatus for synchronizing an XML document object model with the corresponding object model on the fly and in real time such that changes in either the document object model or the object model can be immediately reflected in the other without re-parsing the XML document. The invention utilizes a series of DOM/object model adapter software modules, each responsible for one (or more) object model properties and document object model nodes, respectively. Each adapter is registered to receive notification of a change in an object model property or DOM node for which it is responsible and updates the corresponding DOM node or object model property, respectively.

  • Publication number: 20020159393
Abstract: A hybrid network (100) includes a plurality of network elements (102, 106, 110, 114) that are coupled together by communication links (116, 118, 120, 122, 124). The network elements operate on different communications protocols. A loop back test message traverses a path (140) across network elements to test the integrity and quality of the path. Each network element that receives the loop back message modifies the message in a predetermined manner. The originator of the message verifies that the message was modified in an appropriate manner and in an appropriate time frame to determine integrity and quality.

  • Publication number: 20020082834
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for speech recognition. The systems and methods are operative to evaluate a spoken word and determine one or more characteristics of a speech waveform corresponding to the spoken word. The speech waveform is converted to a digital pulse waveform based on a threshold level. One or more characteristics of the speech waveform can be analyzed utilizing the digital pulse waveform. The threshold level can be adjustable so that varying voltage amplitudes of speech waveforms can be considered. The one or more characteristics can be matched with one or more stored characteristics to determine the spoken word associated with the speech waveform between a set of selectable words having different waveform characteristics.

  • Patent number: 6338088
Abstract: A service creation system for a communications network of the intelligent network type has 3 different levels at which service creation activities can be carried out, these being SCE1, SCE2 and SCE3. The use of separate levels allows access to the service creation system to be kept functionally separate for users having different interests in the network. Hence, features which have to be installed at the network element level for a selected service to be available can be created in SCE1. Marketable service features, which give a view of features in that they encapsulate call handling logic thereof together with support and management descriptions of the feature, can be created in SCE2. Service packages, which permit collection of marketable service features to meet requirements of a service together with servicespecific support and management information, can be created in either of SCE2 or SCE3.

  • Patent number: 6192430
Abstract: A mixed-signal processor (MSP) chip with a flexible serial interface which simultaneously accommodates two serial ports on a reduced number of pins. The pin definitions of these serial ports are configured to function well with several different external chips. Any two of these chips, or two of any one of these chips, may be used concurrently by the present MSP. When used with chips that require it, the present MSP chip provides a clock signal to each of these. When used with other chips, the MSP will can receive a clock signal from an external chip, and will then pass this signal through to any chip on the other of the two serial ports.

  • Patent number: 6007634
Abstract: An apparatus (10) for decomposing and depositing gaseous metal carbonyls on a mandrel (36). A base plate (12) and cover (14) define a reaction chamber (20). A mandrel ring (28), nested within the base plate (12) and insulated therefrom, supports the mandrel (36). Heat transfer fluid flows through the mandrel ring (28) and into the mandrel (36) to maintain the mandrel (36) at a predetermined temperature to initiate thermal decomposition.

  • Patent number: 5846890
Abstract: A temporary surface covering to allow or facilitate the circulation of vehicles on sandy or swampy soils. The surface covering is formed of a woven structure formed from weft threads (N.sup.o 1 to 26) of the monofilament type disposed along a single layer and warp threads (N.sup.o 1 to 10), also disposed along a single layer. The weave of the woven structure is such that each warp thread is interlaced with the weft thread preferably and approximately along half the intersections of the rows and columns of the weave so as to obtain, for each warp thread, at least one tight single weave zone (A) followed by a loose thread zone (B). The alternation of the various zones provokes retightenings of the weft threads creating a large relief (S1, S2, C1, C2) of the fabric embodied.

  • Patent number: 5777167
Abstract: The instant invention is directed to a process for removing odor from alkylthioethylamine reaction product mixtures having said odor. The process comprises first contacting an alkylthioethanamine reaction product mixture with a neutralizing amount of aqueous alkali metal hydroxide to form an organic phase and an aqueous phase. Next, the organic phase is separated from the aqueous phase. After separation, a sufficient amount of an aqueous hydrohalic acid is added to the organic phase to form an alkylthioethanamine hydrohalide which has reduced odor.

  • Patent number: 5682958
Abstract: A scraper is provided with a hydrostatic rear wheel assist that is operated by foot pedals in the operators cab. A reversible variable displacement hydrostatic pump is operatively coupled to an engine mounted to the front frame section of the scraper. An engagement/disengagement valve is hydraulically positioned between the pump and the rear wheel hydraulic motors. The engagement/disengagement valve has two positions: a engagement position for directing pressurized hydraulic fluid to the motors and a disengagement position for preventing the flow of pressurized hydraulic fluid to the motors. In its disengagement position the wheel motors are free to free wheel as the motors are coupled to sump. A traction control valve is positioned between the engagement/disengagement valve and the wheel motors. The traction control valve has an uncontrolled flow divider position and a differential lock or controlled flow divider position. Both valves are operated by an electrical controller.
