Abstract: The invention relates to the use, for dyeing keratin fibres, and in particular human hair, of benzoquinone derivatives of the formula: ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 and R.sub.3 independently of one another denote hydrogen, a hydroxyl group, an alkoxy group or an optionally hydroxylated alkyl group, and R.sub.2 and R.sub.4 independently of one another denote hydrogen, hydroxyl, alkoxy, alkyl, or phenyl optionally substituted by OH, these compounds having at most two alkyl or alkoxy groups on the quinone ring; if one of the radicals R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 or R.sub.4 denotes a methyl, hydroxyl or methoxy group, at least one of the other substituents is different from hydrogen, and if two of these substituents R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 or R.sub.4 are identical and located in the para-position relative to one another and denote hydroxyl or methoxy, at least one of the other two substituents is different from hydrogen.

Abstract: The invention relates to a photostable cosmetic composition for protection against UV rays with wavelengths between 280 and 400 nm, which contains, in a cosmetically acceptable aqueous or aqueous/alcoholic medium, trihydroxyethylrutin in combination with water-soluble sun-screens derived from benzylidenecamphor which are described in French Pat. Nos. 2,199,971, 2,236,515 and 2,282,426, and more particularly, 4-(2-oxo-3-bornylidenemethyl)phenyltrimethylammonium methylsulphate and 4-(2-oxo-3-bornylidenemethyl)benzenesulphonic acid and its metal or ammonium salts.Application as a sunscreen composition for the skin, a protective composition for the hair or as a light-stabilized cosmetic composition.

Abstract: A two-component pack containing a composition for coloring or artifically tanning skin comprising two components (a) and (b) intended to be mixed at the time of use or to be applied to the skin successively wherein component (a) comprises meso-tartaraldehyde in the form of an aqueous solution, an aqueous gel or an aqueous emulsion, and component (b) comprises at least one hydroxyquinone, which is 2,5-dihydroxy-3-methyl-1,4-benzoquinone, 2,5-dihydroxy-3-methyl-6-methoxy-1,4-benzoquinone, 2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone (lawsone), 2-hydroxy-3-methoxy-1,4-naphthoquinone, 2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone, 2,5-dihydroxy-3-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone, 5-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone (juglone), 5,8-dihydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone (naphthazarin), 2-methoxy-5-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone, or 2,5,8-trihydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone, in the form of an anhydrous solution or a powder.

Abstract: The invention relates to a dyeing composition for keratinous fibres containing, in a suitable vehicle, at least one nitrated direct dye of the 2-nitro-paraphenylenediamine series, in which the amino group in position 4 is mono- or disubstituted with lower alkyl or hydroxyalkyl radicals and in which the amino group in position 1 is optionally monosubstituted with a lower alkyl or hydroxyalkyl radial, and the aromatic ring can be substituted or unsubstituted on the remaining positions; the invention consists in introducing into such a composition an imidazolidinedione or one of its substitution derivatives, to improve the solubility of the abovementioned nitrated direct dye by a co-solubilization phenomenon. The invention also relates to a process for dyeing keratinous fibres using such compositions.

Abstract: The invention relates to a composition for dyeing keratinic fibres, especially human hair, which contains 5-nitrovanillin of formula: ##STR1## in an aqueous, alcoholic or hydroalcoholic carrier. This yellow nitro dye makes it possible to obtain stable shades having good light- and shampoo-resistance when it is used by itself or in combination with blue or violet nitrobenzene dyes, and optionally with other direct dyes.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a cosmetic composition containing, as an agent for protecting against light, pure aloesin or an aloe extract containing at least 40% of aloesin and less than 5% of barbaloin, in a quantity of 0.5 to 20% by weight, in a cosmetically acceptable medium.Such a cosmetic composition can consist of a protective composition, a sunscreen composition or a cosmetic composition stabilized against light and can be applied on skin or to hair.

Abstract: A process is disclosed for the preparation of bis-(N-oxypyridyl-thio) derivatives of aluminum sulfonates by reacting a bis-isopropylate aluminum derivative of an organic sulfonate with two equivalents of the N-oxide of pyridine-2 thiol. The bis-isopropylate aluminum derivative of the organic sulfonate is formed by reacting the organic sulfonic acid precursor with aluminum isopropylate.

Abstract: Aminated .gamma.-dialdehyde and the quaternary ammonium salts thereof are prepared by acid hydrolysis of their respective corresponding 2,5-dialkoxy 3-amino 4-hydroxy tetrahydrofurans or by acid hydrolysis of their respective corresponding tetraalkyl acetals. The aminated .gamma.-dialdehydes and the quaternary ammonium salts thereof are usefully employed in cosmetic compositions to tan the skin or to strengthen or restructure the hair.
