Abstract: A casket assembly includes a container and a two-piece lid. The two-piece lid includes a superior lid that covers the anterior end of the casket and an inferior lid that covers the opposite end. The container includes a bottom panel, an inferior end panel, a superior end panel, and two elongated side panels. Each elongated side portion has a recessed portion on the superior end of the casket for providing an improved viewing of the deceased. In one embodiment, the casket panels each include a plurality of mortise holes and/or tenons. The tenons on individual panels are designed to fit into the mortise holes on other panels. Pins are placed through pinholes on the tenons to retain the tenons in the mortise holes. A shelf and bracket assembly may be provided for use in displaying mementos of the deceased and/or for supporting the inferior casket lid.

Abstract: A rental casket system includes a casket with a recessed side panel for ease of viewing. The casket includes a removable end piece which is one embodiment is located within grooves formed in the side panels of the casket. The grooves widen near the upper portion of the side panels and are partially covered by a top panel. The rental casket system includes a tray assembly that may be used as part of a cremation casket. The tray has short side walls and may include an inner assembly that prevents contact with a deceased when handholds in the tray assembly are used to move the tray assembly. The tray and a lid form a burial bell assembly that may be sealed for burial. The tray assembly may include side walls that are movably attached to end walls. Lid segments are provided with the tray so that the tray may also be used as an identification tray.

Abstract: A modular drip tray for use in a casket includes a plurality of modules and an overlapping member. The plurality of modules are placed into a casket adjacent to each other and the overlapping member creates an overlap region that spans a portion of the two modules and any gap between the modules such that liquids impinging upon the overlap region will be impaired from progressing beneath the overlap region. The overlapping member may be formed integrally with one or more modules. Each module may further comprise a plurality of discrete isolated compartments for retention of liquids.

Abstract: A flange is for use in a reel for supporting a wound flexible medium. The reel includes an elongated core defining a longitudinal core axis. The flange includes a first annular wall oriented substantially perpendicular to the axis and engaging the core. A second annular wall is oriented substantially perpendicular to the axis and is offset in an axial direction from the first annular wall. At least one connecting wall interconnects the second annular wall and the first annular wall. A first annular rim is attached to the first annular wall or the second annular wall and is oriented substantially parallel to the axis.

Abstract: An apparatus for supporting wound flexible media that includes a first flange, a second flange and a fastener. The second flange may be constructed as an integral, unitary structure. A core around which flexible media is wound is typically disposed between the first flange and the second flange. The first fastener has a first end engaging the first flange and a threaded end that is rotatably secured directly to said second flange.

Abstract: A casket is made by covering one side of a flat precursor blank of corrugated fiberboard with a liquid-impervious flexible liner and the other side with a pliable decorative cloth, shipping the thus-covered blank to a point of use, and then folding it up into a complete lined and covered casket. Appropriate foldable flaps are provided at the ends of the precursor, and framing strips are secured along the sides of the blank for support prior to folding-up of the casket precursor to form the casket. The end flaps are held in their folded-up positions by manually insertable fasteners, and the hinges for the lid of the casket are secured by hand-stapling to the tops of the framing members. The triangular folds formed in the liner at its corners when it is fold up are tucked between the end flaps as they are being folded. The entire casket body can be shipped as a flat blank, and easily assembled manually at a remote location by unskilled persons.
