Patent number: 11307704Abstract: Systems and methods are provided that may be implemented to share digital touch data (e.g., user finger touch data, pen or stylus touch data, etc.) between two or more touch controllers that are coupled to separate respective touch-sensing segments of a common touchscreen display device. The shared digital touch data may correspond to (and be derived from) analog user touch signals received within a defined margin area of each touch-sensing layer segment that lies adjacent to a middle boundary region of the touchscreen display. Each touch controller may accurately determine or compute the user touch intent for a touch data map of its corresponding touch-sensing layer segment after resolving any existing boundary conflict between digital touch data that corresponds to adjacent touch sensor segments. An operating system (OS) executing on a host programmable integrated circuit may then reconstruct and provide the full touch data map for the entire touchscreen display device.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2021Date of Patent: April 19, 2022Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Gerald R. Pelissier, Hsufeng Lee, Yagiz C. Yildiz

Publication number: 20220107684Abstract: A portable information handling system rotates a lid housing portion integrating a display from a closed to an open position with a motorized hinge. One or more sensors monitor an end user position during the rotating from the closed to the open position so that the motorized hinge aligns the display with a desired viewing position relative to the end user, such as substantially perpendicular to the end user's gaze. The one or more sensors monitor the end user during usage of the information handling system to adjust the motorized hinge as the end user's position changes relative to the display over time.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 5, 2020Publication date: April 7, 2022Applicant: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Jace W. Files, John Trevor Morrison, Gerald R. Pelissier

Patent number: 11260288Abstract: A game controller has first and second controller housings having an attachment guide structure that detachably couples to an attachment tab structure disposed on opposing sides of an information handling system and a bridge. Input devices of the controller housing communicate directly with the information handling system through opposing pins and pads disposed in the attachment features or indirectly by communicating with the bridge through opposing pins and pads so the bridge communicates with the information handling system. The attachment guide structure has opposing lips with plural slots that pass tabs of the attachment tab structure through so that a sliding motion engages the tabs behind the lips.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 2019Date of Patent: March 1, 2022Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Philip M. Seibert, Enoch Chen, Gerald R. Pelissier, Kevin M. Turchin, Andrew P. Tosh, Yongook Guack, Duck Soo Choi, Anthony J. Patent number: 11260291Abstract: A game controller has first and second controller housings that detachably couple to an information handling system and a bridge to communicate inputs by plural input devices directly with the information handling system or indirectly by communicating with the bridge so the bridge communicates with the information handling system. The information handling system operates in a handheld mode with game controller input devices, such as joysticks and triggers, coupled for use at opposing sides of the information handling system housing, or in a standalone mode with the game controllers detached from the information handling system and attached to a bridge so that the bridge communicates the controller inputs to the information handling system. Attachment of a game controller to a bridge or information handling system is aided with opposing polarity magnets at proper alignment.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 2019Date of Patent: March 1, 2022Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Philip M. Seibert, Gerald R. Pelissier, Andrew P. Tosh, Kevin M. Turchin, Yagiz C. Yildiz, Enoch Chen

Patent number: 11240438Abstract: An information handling system camera manages tilt and pan in an automated manner to direct the camera field of view. A shutter slides behind a camera cover to align a shutter opening with a cover opening. Additional sliding of the cover translates to a tilt of the camera from a full down axis to a full up axis. For example, a cam surface formed in the shutter engages the camera for tilt with a spring bias of the camera against the cam. Rotation of the camera housing about a bracket pivot gear is provided through sliding motion of a pan bar within the camera housing.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 2021Date of Patent: February 1, 2022Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Wong Hin Loong Justin, Karthikeyan Krishnakumar, Gerald R. Publication number: 20210346796Abstract: A game controller has first and second controllers detachably coupled to a bridge or an information handling system housing to provide inputs to a gaming application executing on the information handling system, such as from a joystick input device integrated in each controller. Logic stored in non-transitory memory of the information handling system executes to track game controllers based upon unique identifiers retrieved from each controller to the information handling system, such as through a direct coupling of the controllers to the information handling system or indirect communication by the information handling system with a bridge directly coupled to the controllers. The information handling system sets priority for inputs from game controllers based upon controller unique identifiers and also tracks composite game controller assemblies that include controllers and a bridge.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 26, 2021Publication date: November 11, 2021Applicant: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Yagiz C. Yildiz, Philip M. Seibert, Gerald R. Pelissier, Marc R. Hammons

Patent number: 11097184Abstract: A game controller includes a joystick that accepts end user inputs and has illumination provided at the game controller surface encircling the joystick to provide indications to an end user, such as a locally-determined game controller status or a game application end user energy state. The illumination is provided from light emitting diodes disposed within the game controller interior on a flexible printed circuit board and coupled to a base of an annular light guide by a gasket to direct illumination into the annular light guide. Non-translucent treatment at the light guide on the game controller surface defines a translucent region at which illumination is presented.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 2019Date of Patent: August 24, 2021Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Philip M. Seibert, Kevin M. Turchin, Enoch Chen, Gerald R. Pelissier, Christopher A. Torres, Chia Yuan Chang

Patent number: 11095463Abstract: A portable information handling system selectively accepts power transferred from an external device through a port, such as USB Type C port, with one of a first or second power configuration. The first power configuration accepts power regulated by a charger of an external device and routed directly to a system bus and battery of the portable information handling system. The second power configuration accepts power regulated by an internal charger of the portable information handling system, such as a narrow voltage direct current charger.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2018Date of Patent: August 17, 2021Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Gerald R. Publication number: 20210236918Abstract: A portable information handling system interacts with a game controller through either a direct connection at a wired interface at the sides of opposing controller housings and the information handling system housing or through a bridge having a bridge housing that directly couples to the controller housing as a bridge to the information handling system, such as with a wireless interface. During a sliding coupling motion, pins of the controller housing wired interface move across pins of the bridge or information handling system wired interface. Analysis of the interface signals through a sliding coupling motion identifies the type of controller housing, such as a controller housing with game input devices or with extra functions like speaker audio and supplemental battery power.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2021Publication date: August 5, 2021Applicant: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Gerald R. Patent number: 11017742Abstract: A portable information handling system presents visual images at first and second displays integrated in first and second rotationally-coupled housing portions. When the housing portions rotate to a clamshell configuration, a refractive layer in a “DO” display aligns light illuminated from the display off an orthogonal angle and towards a user while a “SEE” display aligns light illuminated from the display along an orthogonal angle.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2019Date of Patent: May 25, 2021Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Gerald R.
