  • Publication number: 20170077977
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided that may be implemented to utilize multiple sensors to intelligently control RF transmit power and specific absorption rate (SAR) produced from a wireless-enabled information handling system platform in the presence of a detected nearby human body. The disclosed systems and methods may be implemented in one example to avoid the poor performance and user experience that results from a reduction in the information handling system platform radio transmit power when it is not necessary (due to false detection of a human body), or that results when the platform transmit power is reduced too much and/or too quickly when nearby proximity of an actual human body is detected.

Abstract: A computing device comprises a head that can be physically attached to a base. The head may be capable of functioning as a type of computing device independent of the base. The base may include a base transceiver to receive data from a first component of the base, encode the data into a signal, and transmit the signal. The base may include a base waveguide to guide the signal to a head waveguide of the head. • Patent number: 9507388
Abstract: A portable information handling system has lid and main portions rotationally coupled to each other with a set of hinges having motion managed by rack and pinion gears. The rack translates motion between pinions by moving outward from the housing portions during rotation of the housing portions. A flexible cover over the rack stretches in response to movement of the rack to contain the hinges within the portable information handling system structure.

  • Publication number: 20140282228
Abstract: A method and system for managing the active area of a touch-sensitive display is disclosed. A request to resize the active area of a touch-sensitive display is received from a user in the form of a user gesture. The relationship of the current dimensions of the active area to the inside dimensions of a bezel associated with the touch-sensitive display is determined. The request is then processed to initiate active area resizing operations. If the dimensions of the active area are coincident with the inside dimensions of the bezel, then the dimensions of the active area can be reduced. If the dimensions of the active area are not coincident with the inside dimensions of the bezel, then the dimensions of the active area can be increased.

  • Patent number: 6782442
Abstract: A system for testing insertion and extraction of a hot-swappable card includes an automatic positioning station and a controller. The automatic positioning station inserts the hot-swappable card into a backplane and extracts the hot-swappable card from the backplane. The controller directs the operation of the automatic positioning station and determines whether the hot-swappable card is functioning when inserted into the backplane.

  • Patent number: 6711646
Abstract: A dual mode memory interface includes a bus switch and a register/buffer operatively coupled to the bus switch. The dual mode memory interface may include, operatively coupled to the bus switch and the register/buffer, enable/disable pins configured so that only one of the bus switch and the register/buffer is active at a time. The bus switch may be a transistor configured as a pass gate. The dual mode memory interface may be implemented in a single integrated circuit package. The dual mode memory interface may further include a system controller for detecting a type of memory module connected to the dual mode memory interface and enabling one of the bus switch and register/buffer based on the type of memory module detected.

  • Publication number: 20030140190
Abstract: A Compact Peripheral Component Interconnect (CPCI) system includes a circuit board with a front card (e.g., motherboard) coupled to a transition card via the circuit board. The CPCI system is adapted to provide for the dynamic replacement of the front card connected with a Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) device. The CPCI system includes a transition card that is adapted to provide the termination at the SCSI bus extremity (end) when its corresponding front card is removed. Preferably, the transition card allows for termination on its corresponding front card and not on the transition card when both the front card and the transition card are present (normal operating mode). The transition card's transition termination features are automatically enabled upon extraction of its corresponding front card and automatically disabled upon insertion of its corresponding front card.

  • Patent number: 6456139
Abstract: A device for automatically varying resistance includes a comparator for comparing a control voltage to a reference voltage; a switch operatively coupled to the comparator; and a first resistor and second resistor operatively coupled in a series connection between a pull-up voltage and a signal line. The switch is operatively coupled in a parallel connection with the first resistor and, based on the comparison between the control voltage and the reference voltage, the switch selectively bypasses the first resistor. A method of automatically varying resistance includes comparing a control voltage and a reference voltage; pulling-up a signal line to a pull-up voltage through a first resistor and a second resistor operatively connected in series if the comparison has a first outcome; and pulling up the signal line to the pull-up voltage through only the second resistor if the comparison has a second outcome.

  • Publication number: 20020112191
Abstract: An intelligent power module includes a power supply, control circuitry controlling whether power is delivered by the power supply and a controller that determines a status of the power supply and instructs the control circuitry to control whether power is delivered by the power supply based on the status of the power supply. A method of intelligently supplying power includes determining a state of a power supply and selectively turning on the power supply based on the state of the power supply. An intelligent power delivery system includes a backplane, a system management controller residing on the backplane, and a power module operatively coupled to the backplane. The system management controller monitors a state of the power module prior to powering on the power module.
