  • Publication number: 20100037091
Abstract: Methods and systems for bad data block management of redundant array of independent disks (RAID) are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method for managing a bad data block for a RAID includes filling a first logical block address (LBA) of a first disk having a media error using signature data, filling a second LBA of a second disk offlined from the RAID using the signature data, wherein the second LBA and the first LBA are on a same stripe of the RAID, storing the first LBA and the second LBA to a table in a disk data format (DDF) area associated with the first disk and the second disk, and computing and storing parity values for the stripe of the RAID associated with the first LBA and the second LBA based on data across the stripe.

  • Publication number: 20100012864
Abstract: A long-term antimatter storage device that may be energized by a low power magnetron and can function autonomously for hundreds of hours on the energy provided by batteries. An evacuated, cryogenic container is arranged with a source of positrons and a source of electrons positioned in capture relation to one another within the container so as to allow for the formation of a plurality of positronium atoms. A microwave resonator is located within the container forming a circularly polarized standing wave within which the plurality of positronium atoms rotate. Radioactive sources for small stores and low energy positron accelerators for large stores are used to efficiently fill the device with positronium in seconds to minutes. The device may also be arranged to provide for the extraction of positrons. A method for storing antimatter is also provided.

  • Patent number: 7533298
Abstract: A system, apparatus and method for maintaining information related to a write operation is described. In one embodiment of the invention, a write journal is provided that contains a list of entries that store information related to active write operations so that a particular write may be restarted in order to correct an inconsistency. The journal may have a battery backed cache, in which data is stored prior to writing to a disk, which is provided power in the case of a power failure. The journal may be located in memory positioned at various locations within a system including on a controller card for a disk array system or on a motherboard of a host system.

  • Publication number: 20080087852
Abstract: A monitor is provided for measuring the presence of a small concentration of at least one hazardous material within a vessel. A positron source emits positrons into an annihilation region of the vessel. A plurality of species of positronium are formed from the positrons as they interact with a sample of the ambient environment disposed within the vessel. At least one gamma ray detector is located externally of the vessel for detecting gamma rays generated primarily by the absorption of the species of positronium within the annihilation region. A method is also provided where a source of positrons is arranged to direct positrons into a vessel containing a specimen of gas and a contaminant to form species of positronium. The timing of the application of positrons is sensed along with the annihilation of each of the plurality of species of positronium.

  • Publication number: 20070067563
Abstract: A system, apparatus and method for updating disk drive firmware is described. In one embodiment of the invention, the disk drive firmware is contained within a RAID environment. A flash mode is provided in which physical drives within the RAID are exposed to an operating system. The flash mode may limit the access and commands of the operating system to the drives in order to prevent errors such as read/write errors. During flash mode, the OS may flash a drive firmware in order to provide an update. Once the update is complete, flash mode is deactivated and the RAID returns to normal operation.

  • Publication number: 20070012279
Abstract: A filtering system provides an oil flow to a filter carried by a support offset from a down tube of a motorcycle frame. An engine mounted bracket directs oil flow to be filtered to a cap assembly which is attached to an oil conduit. A threaded tubular member of the cap assembly permits rotational positioning of the attached conduit end, and positioning of the conduit, to facilitate conduit passage past motorcycle components to the filter support.

  • Publication number: 20060245870
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for positioning a plurality of cassettes within an automated printing plate handler. In a plate handler, a plurality of cassettes each contain a supply of printing plates for delivery to an automatic plate-recording device. The apparatus includes a separate support table for supporting each of the plurality of cassettes within the plate handler and an elevator device for moving each of the support tables along a vertical axis of the automated plate handler. The automated plate handler is configured to automatically position a selected cassette in a first position to facilitate removal of the cassette from the handler. The plate handler further includes a platform, which substantially forms an extension of the support table supporting the selected cassette in the first position. The platform provides a second position, at which the selected cassette is to be one of, loaded or unloaded.

  • Publication number: 20060207170
Abstract: A natural biodegradable felt suitable for growing seeds, seedlings or plants comprises a needlepunched felt mat formed of unscoured greasy wool, with or without additional nitrogenous material in the form of crushed or rolled animal excreta (dags). One such mat has a base which is sufficiently dense that it suppresses the growth of weeds through the mat, while being sufficiently loose in the upper surface to enable scattered seeds to be impregnated into the mat, and to grow through the mat when watered. The mat and seeds can be shrink wrapped and rolled to provide an instant lawn. An alternative version uses a different density substrate for use in hydroponics, or for the delivery of growing plants such as lettuce or herbs to supermarkets.

  • Publication number: 20060014045
Abstract: Security films that are useful for pharmaceutical packaging. In particular, anti-counterfeiting security films having a luminescent composition on or in a fluoropolymer layer, which luminescent composition luminesces upon the application of ultraviolet radiation in the 200 nm to 300 nm range, in which the luminescent component is optionally and preferably not viewable to the unaided eye. The films are particularly useful for the formation of anti-counterfeiting blister packaging in compliance with FDA regulations.
