  • Patent number: 4769497
Abstract: A new method of synthesis of a 2,2-dialkoxy-propane e.g. 2,2-dimethoxy-propane, is described through reaction of a cyclic ketal, e.g. 2,2-dimethyl-(1,3)-dioxolane, with a boric acid alkyl ester, e.g. boric acid trimethyl ester, in the presence of an acidic catalyst. The reaction may be carried out either in liquid or in vapor phase. In the latter case, heating of the thus obtained intermediate mixture to the reflux temperature should follow the catalytic step.

  • Patent number: 4439570
Abstract: Substantially colorless, liquid compositions are described which are constituted by a phenolic antioxidant, or mixture of phenolic antioxidants, and at least one phosphine, the compositions being highly resistant to coloration phenomena. These compositions are effective stabilizers for organic polymers and, when incorporated in the said polymers, have a stabilizing power which is greater than that shown by the phenolic antioxidant or mixture of phenolic antioxidants alone.

  • Patent number: 4374279
Abstract: A process for the preparation of dicumyl peroxide by reaction of dimethylbenzyl hydroperoxide (cumene hydroperoxide) with methyl cumyl ether is described. The reaction is carried out in the presence of a catalytic quantity of Lewis or Bronsted acids, the methanol which forms as a by-product being removed as the reaction proceeds. Furthermore, the reaction is carried out in a reaction medium consisting of the methyl cumyl ether itself, which is employed in quantities greater than the stoichiometric quantity required for the reaction with the cumene hydroperoxide.

  • Patent number: 4374280
Abstract: A process for the preparation of dicumyl peroxide by reaction of dimethylbenzyl hydroperoxide (cumene hydroperoxide) with dimethyl phenyl carbinol in the presence of a catalytic quantity of a phosphorous halide or oxyhalide is described. This catalyst gives good yields of the useful reaction product and a high selectivity.

  • Patent number: 4216345
Abstract: Process for the preparation of alkylbenzenes by partial chlorination of linear C.sub.9 -C.sub.15 paraffins, catalytic alkylation of benzene with the resulting mixture and fractionation by distillation of the alkylation products. At least a part of the unreacted paraffins recovered by fractionation and to be recycled to the chlorination stage is submitted, continuously or intermittently, to a purification treatment with molecular sieves. The content in undesired by-products of the alkylbenzenes can thus be maintained at negligibly low values.

  • Patent number: 3993587
Abstract: Supported superacid catalysts active in the alkylation of aromatic hydrocarbons are obtained by treating an alumina-containing support at a temperature of at least 400.degree. C and contacting the support at a temperature of at least 150.degree. C with a Lewis or Bronsted acid defined by one of the formulae: MX.sub.n, HMX.sub.n.sub.+1 and MOX.sub.m, wherein M stands for a metal belonging to Groups IIIA, IVB, VA, VB and VIB of the Periodic System of Elements, X is a halogen (with the exception of iodine), n is an integer from 3 to 6 and m is an integer from 1 to 4.
