  • Publication number: 20110151874
Abstract: Relevant radio-link related information is transferred through a wireless terminal (30) from type of network (network 22B) to another type of network (network 22A and vice versa. The wireless terminal 30 acts as a mediator or relay for the link report message of one type network (network 22B) so that link indications thereof can be utilized in a handover determination by the other type network (network 22A).

  • Publication number: 20110149852
Abstract: A wireless terminal, when already having a registration and/or session for a packet switched (PS) service with a Long Term Evolution (LTE) core network, makes a registration for a circuit switched (CS) service over a Wide Band Code Division Multiplexing (WCDMA) air interface with a circuit switched (CS) core network, but in conjunction with the registration for the circuit switched (CS) service maintains the registration and/or session for a packet switched (PS) service with the Long Term Evolution (LTE) core network.

  • Publication number: 20110149908
Abstract: In a method of operating a wireless terminal, the wireless terminal (30) sends a request to participate in a circuit switched call with a circuit switched network. Prior to establishment of the circuit switched call the wireless terminal (30) releases or performs an inter-radio access technology handover of an existing packet switched session with an original packet switched network. The wireless terminal (30) then reconnects to the packet switched session to obtain a reconnected packet switched session. Thereafter the wireless terminal (30) interleaves packet switched transmissions of the reconnected packet switched session with voice transmissions of the circuit switched call.

  • Publication number: 20110149907
Abstract: A wireless terminal (30) is capable of communicating with a first network (22-1) and a second network (22-1, 22-3), the first network (22-1) being an LTE network. A wireless terminal method comprises (prior to making a request to participate in a circuit switched call with the second network) the wireless terminal (30) camping on a respective selected cell (of each of the first network and the second network and thereby having tuned to both the selected cell for the first network and the selected cell for the second network. In view of already camping on the selected cell of the second network, the wireless terminal (30) does not make a measurement with respect to a cell of the second network in a time period between the making of the request to participate in the circuit switch call and actual establishment of the circuit switched call with the second network.

  • Publication number: 20110014891
Abstract: A method (700) for use in a cellular system (100), comprising the step of transmitting a predefined message (705) comprising a primary warning notification (710) and verification information (715) related to the primary warning notification to user terminals in one or more cells of the system. The predefined message is transmitted simultaneously to a plurality of user terminals (740) in the system (100) on a physical channel (745) in the system which is dedicated to messages to single users. Suitably, the physical channel used is a paging channel (750) in the system (100), and also suitably, the predefined message causes the user terminals to listen (720) for a secondary warning notification in subsequent messages on the same channel.

  • Publication number: 20090239536
Abstract: The invention is directed towards determining whether a hard handover should be performed of a mobile station (48) in relation to a first group of cells (16, 18, 20, 24) including a number of active cells (16, 18, 20) and handled by a first cell handling device (10) to a second group of cells (32, 36, 38) handled by a second cell handling device (26), when the cell handling devices lack a direct communication link (lur). Either the first cell handling device or the mobile station obtains measurements of link quality between the mobile station and cells of the groups, determines a first and second total quality factor for the groups, performs an evaluation of a preferred group involving comparing the first total quality factor with the second quality factor and initiates a handover from the first group to the second group if the second group is preferred.

  • Publication number: 20090207815
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and arrangements for improving the capabilities of an evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network, in particular for cases when more than one radio access network applying a time-division duplex transmission mode need to co-exist on a same carrier. The invention addresses further problems concerning an efficient allocation of uplink resources and resource allocation in a handover situation. The present invention assigns an attribute in form of a distinguishing value to the time slots used for the uplink and downlink transmission on said carrier such as to avoid scheduling of transmissions via a first radio access network in downlink or uplink time slots assigned to the second radio access network and to avoid scheduling of transmissions via the second radio access network in uplink time slots assigned for transmissions in the first radio access network.

  • Patent number: 7146175
Abstract: A serving RNC signals the load contribution of all mobiles for which it is the serving RNC to all cells controlled by another RNC that are affected by the uplink transmissions of those mobiles. This allows the other RNC to determine the contribution of those mobiles to the total uplink interference in its cells. In one example, the uplink load maybe estimated using mobile-based path gain measurements.
