Abstract: A hair dye composition comprising at least one oxidation dye and at least one diphenylamine of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.4 each independently represent hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl having 1-6 carbon atoms, lower alkoxy having 1-6 carbon atoms, acylamino or ureido;R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 each independently represent hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl having 1-6 carbon atoms, lower alkoxy having 1-6 carbon atoms, amino, N-alkylamino wherein the alkyl has 1-6 carbon atoms, N-hydroxyalkylamino wherein the alkyl has 1-6 carbon atoms, acylamino, N-carbamylalkylamino wherein the alkyl has 1-6 carbon atoms or ureido;R.sub.5 represents hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl having 1-6 carbon atoms or lower alkoxy having 1-6 carbon atoms;R.sub.6, R.sub.7 and R.sub.8, each independently represent hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl having 1-6 carbon atoms or lower alkoxy having 1-6 carbon atoms;Y represents hydroxy or amino; andZ represents hydroxy or ##STR2## wherein R.sub.9 and R.sub.

Abstract: The invention is directed to compositions which can be orally administered to humans suffering from a condition characterized by excessive secretion of sebum from the scalp or skin, for the purpose of improving that condition. The compositions include a solid ingestible carrier admixed with certain non-toxic active compounds of the formula ##STR1## WHICH ARE MORE FULLY AND SPECIFICALLY DESCRIBED BELOW.

Abstract: A method for treating a scalp characterized by an excessive secretion of sebum, to improve the condition thereof by reducing said excessive secretion comprising orally administering to a human being having a scalp so characterized a therapeutic composition comprising an ingestible carrier admixed with, as a non-toxic active compound, cysteine or cysteamine derivatives, the active compound is present in amounts of about 0.75-3 weight percent of the composition which is administered at a rate of about 1-5 mg/kg/day based on the weight of the human being during a period of about 15 days.

Abstract: A hygienic or cosmetic composition for the hair or skin comprises in a cosmetic vehicle at least one superoxide dismutase.

Abstract: New amphoteric compounds which contain two basic groups, at least one of which is a quaternary ammonium group, and an anionic group of the carboxylic type and one or two lipophile chains. These compounds have excellent cationic characteristics while being less, and in some cases non-irritating to the mucous membrane of the eye.

Abstract: Diphenylamines of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each independently represent hydrogen, halogen or lower alkyl containing 1-4 carbon atoms with at least one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 being other than hydrogen; R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, and R.sub.7 each independently represent hydrogen or lower alkyl optionally substituted with hydroxy, carbamyl, piperidinyl or acylamino; R.sub.3 and R.sub.6 or R.sub.4 and R.sub.7 also optionally forming together with the carbon and nitrogen atoms to which they are attached, a dihydrooxazine or pyrroline heterocycle; and Z represents amino, acylamino or hydroxy; and the acid salts of said diphenylamines. These diphenylamines are usefully employed in cosmetic compositions for the hair including hair dye compositions and hair setting lotion compositions.

Abstract: Cationic surface-active agents which are polyhydroxylated tertiary amines or the quaternary ammonium salts thereof and which are usefully employed in cosmetic compositions, are prepared by condensing on a fatty alcohol, glycerol epihalohydrin alone or together with an epoxide to form polyhalogenated polyethers, which in turn are converted to polyhalogenated glycidyl ethers, the latter being reacted with a secondary amine to form polyhalogenated tertiary amines which are then reacted with sodium or potassium acetate in the presence of a diol to form said polyhydroxylated tertiary amines.

Abstract: Indoaniline of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents hydrogen, halogen, alkyl or alkoxy; R.sub.2 represents alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, carbamylalkyl, piperidinoalkyl, morpholinoalkyl, sulfoalkyl, dialkylaminoalkyl, acylaminoalkyl, (preferably acetylaminoalkyl or benzoylaminoalkyl) and mesylaminoalkyl;R.sub.3 represents hydroxyalkyl, carbamylalkyl, piperidonoalkyl, morpholinoalkyl, sulfoalkyl, dialkylaminoalkyl, acylaminoalkyl, (preferably acetylaminoalkyl or benzoylaminoalkyl), mesylaminoalkyl; or R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 together form with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached a heterocycle selected from piperidino or morpholino;R.sub.4, r.sub.5 and R.sub.6 each independently represents hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, acylamino, ureido or carbalkoxyamino, and R.sub.5 can also represent amino, alkylamino, hydroxyalkylamino or carbamylalkylamino. The alkyl and alkoxy groups above can contain from 1 to 6 carbon atoms and the acyl group can contain from 2 to 7 carbon atoms.

Abstract: Indamine having the formula ##STR1## wherein R and R' each independently represent a member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, lower alkyl having 1-4 carbon atoms, lower alkoxy having 1-4 carbon atoms, amino, acylamino wherein the acyl moiety has 1 to 4 carbon atoms and hydroxy, with the proviso that one, but not both of R and R' is said amino, acylamino or hydroxy; R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each independently represent a member selected from the group consisting of lower alkyl having 1-4 carbon atoms and lower alkyl having 1-4 carbon atoms and substituted with a member selected from the group consisting of hydroxy, acylamino wherein the acyl moiety has 1 to 4 carbon atoms, carbamyl, piperidino, benzoylamino and alkylsulfonamido wherein the alkyl moiety has 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7 and R.sub.

Abstract: A method, composition and compounds useful in said compositions for treating the skin and scalp characterized by an excessive secretion of sebum to improve the condition thereof by reducing said excessive secretion of sebum includes topically applying to a human having skin and/or a scalp so characterized a cosmetic composition containing as an active ingredient a derivative of cysteine or cysteamine. The composition contains about 0.1-5 weight percent of said derivative and also contains as a carrier for the active ingredient, water, a mixture of water and a lower alkanol, a lower alkanol, a mixture of a lower alkanol and a cosmetic resin, a reducing agent, a neutralizing agent or a vegetable oil.

Abstract: A process for producing indamine by condensing 2,6-diamino pyridine on a paraphenylene diamine or a benzoquinone diimine or a paranitroso N,N-dialkyl aniline. The resulting indamine can be incorporated into a dye composition for keratinic fibers, especially human hair.

Abstract: An anti-solar cosmetic composition contains as the anti-solar agent a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen or alkyl containing 1-12 carbon atoms, Y is hydrogen, methyl or halogen and X is halide, arylsulfonate, alkylsulfonate, camphosulfonate or alkyl sulfate. The antisolar agent is present in amounts of 0.05-10 percent by weight of said composition.

Abstract: A dye composition for keratinic fibers comprises an aqueous alcoholic solution of an indoaniline selected from (a) one having the formula ##STR1## wherein Z is selected from amino, acetylamino and hydroxy; R.sub.5, R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 each independently are selected from hydrogen, lower alkyl having 1-6 carbon atoms and lower alkoxy having 1-6 carbon atoms; R.sub.8 is selected from hydrogen, lower alkyl having 1-6 carbon atoms and together with R.sub.5 and the nitrogen atom to which R.sub.8 is attached form dihydro-paroxazine; and R.sub.9 is selected from hydrogen, lower alkyl having 1-6 carbon atoms and together with R.sub.6 and the nitrogen atom to which R.sub.9 is attached form dihydro-paroxazine, with the proviso that at least two of R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7, R.sub.8 and R.sub.9 are other than hydrogen when Z is NH.sub.2 and that only one of R.sub.8 and R.sub.9 form dihydro-paroxazine; (b) an acid salt of said indoaniline in (a); and (c) a double chloride of zinc and said indoaniline in (a).

These diphenylamines are usefully employed in cosmetic compositions for the hair including hair dye compositions and hair setting lotion compositions.
