  • Publication number: 20140195176
Abstract: An improved, adaptive and uniformly applicable estimation of the percentage or fraction of a broadband communication system (BCS) plant that is monitored for signal egress during a given period of time is provided by generating and collecting polygons along all possible routes traversed by DOS service vehicles within a service area, preferably by comparison with a roadway map, to define the service area with improved accuracy. The number of polygons generated and collected is then limited by the number of polygons in which DCS service vehicles have been reported in a given period of time or inspection interval. The limited number of polygons is then divided by the number of polygons generated and collected to determine a fraction or percentage of the BCS system which has been monitored during the given time period and can be used in a computation of a cumulative leakage index (CLI) value.

  • Patent number: 8768689
Abstract: A computer system for implementing a method for managing translations of text phrases is disclosed. The system stores text phrases in a source language as individual entries within a database. The system also stores any imported text phrases in a target language as individual entries within the database. For each text phrase in the source language stored within the database, the system is operable to communicate a notification of an exclusion of a corresponding text phrase in the target language within the database. Also for each stored text phrase stored in the source language within the database, the system is operable to communicate a notification of a modification of a text phrase in the source language as stored within the database after a storage of a corresponding text phrase in the target language within the database.

  • Patent number: 8731524
Abstract: A server device of a communication system provides a web interface to allow a user to modify user interface settings and contact information. The server device communicates the modified settings and contact information to the mobile communication device via a wireless communication network. The user interface settings can be communicated to the mobile communication device via the same wireless communication network that carries voice data. The user interface of the mobile communication device, as well as the stored contact information, can be updated without requiring the user to connect the device to a computer.

  • Patent number: 8498621
Abstract: A server device of a communication system provides a web interface to allow a user to modify user interface settings and contact information. The server device communicates the modified settings and contact information to the mobile communication device via a wireless communication network. Accordingly, the user can conveniently configure user interface settings, such as ring tones, alarm settings, or the like, via a web interface, rather than through a cumbersome interface at the mobile communication device. In addition, the user interface settings are communicated to the mobile communication device via the same wireless communication network that carries voice data. Thus, the user interface of the mobile communication device, as well as the stored contact information, can be updated without requiring the user to connect the device to a computer.

  • Patent number: 7984136
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for automatically determining locations of interconnected processing modules are disclosed. Physical identifiers are determined for each of a plurality of processing modules connected to each other in a linear topology. Communications are iteratively disabled with each of the processing modules. Discover messages are sent to active, reachable processing modules and responses are received from the active processing modules that receive the discover messages. Based on the number of responses, the location of each processing module is determined.

  • Patent number: 7952363
Abstract: Issuance of work orders in response to monitoring signal egress from shielding integrity flaws in a cable communication system by detecting received signal strength from a mobile receiver only during rising trends in received signal strength when the mobile receiver is in motion and tracking the maximum received signal strength peak during each rising trend. Rising trends are detected by computing two rolling averages of received signal strength sample of different lengths and offset from each other and applying a threshold to the difference between the rolling averages to provide hysteresis in switching between rising and falling trend detection. Reported peaks are then compared by proximity to each other and their circle of influence determined in accordance with respective signal strengths to determine if newly reported peaks are duplicates of previously reported peaks and duplicate reported peaks are removed or discarded.

  • Publication number: 20110059815
Abstract: This invention provides a lightweight, portable rebound net from an elastic material that can be attached to an existing regulation-sized soccer goal frame by a single person without the use of a ladder. It has the ability to be tightened quickly to create tension and prevent a ball from slipping under the net with a single mechanism. It provides a rebound net for recreational use with properties like that of a training net available to sports teams. It can be used for soccer or adapted for any other sport for which it would be useful to rebound a ball rather than retrieving it during practice or play. It can be adapted to convert to a catch net without rebound properties in situations for which that would be desirable.

  • Patent number: 7738500
Abstract: A host computer running a TCP connection transfers the connection to a TCP offload network interface device (NID) which performs certain network processes, thereby reducing the load on the host CPU. The NID later transfers the connection back to the host. The host and the NID maintain separate timestamp clocks which provide timestamp values for connections using the TCP Timestamp option. Synchronization of the host and NID timestamp clocks can be realized by transfer of a clock value. The NID or host receives the transferred TCP connection and the transferred clock value, and decides whether to update its own clock to equal the transferred clock value, the decision being guided by the requirement to never allow the timestamp clock to run backward. Acceleration of the timestamp clocks is prevented so that RTT measurements are accurate. Synchronization of the host and NID timestamp clocks improves performance and reduces erroneous connection drops.

  • Patent number: 7734829
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for controlling communications between network applications and multiple network communications protocol stacks using deferred protocol stack association are disclosed. In one method, a socket creation function call is received from an application. A socket creation function call is terminated, a pseudo communications endpoint is created, and a socket descriptor corresponding to the pseudo communications endpoint is returned to the application. At least one subsequent sockets-related function call is received. Based on the subsequent sockets-related function call, it is determined whether the application is a client or a server. In response to determining that the application is a server, communications endpoints are created on each of the network communications protocol stacks and server-related sockets function calls are made to each of the underlying protocol stacks.

  • Patent number: 7571107
Abstract: A method and system for externalization of rules for assessing bodily injury general damages. An insurance company may use an expert system to develop a knowledge base in the form of business rules to process insurance claims. The business rules may be executed to assist an insurance claims adjuster in assessing bodily injury general damages. The task of creation and maintenance of the business rules, used in the assessment of claims, may be automated by the externalization of rules. The user may create a rules data table, which includes data necessary to transform it to business rules, based on a rule syntax structure specified in the template table. The transformation method orchestrates the combining of the data from the rules data table and the rule syntax structure specified in the template table and line text table. The new business rule may be saved as text in an insurance database.

  • Patent number: 7430514
Abstract: An improved method and system to process insurance claims using a graphical user interface with structured data collection. The insurance claims processing software provides the user with an estimated value for a user specified insurance claim. An insurance claims processing software user uses a table of contents (TOC) display screen to display the steps associated with the processing of the insurance claim. The user selects any intermediary step from a structured list of steps, included in the table of contents, to view a display screen associated with the selected intermediary step and to provide user inputs. The structured list of steps, included in the table of contents, is dynamically and automatically updated in response to business rules and/or user inputs. As a final step, the insurance claims processing software displays the estimated value for the specified insurance claim.
