  • Publication number: 20110143769
Abstract: A dual display mobile device comprises a first device with a first display and a second device with a second display. The mobile device can operate as a mobile cell phone. In a closed configuration of the mobile device, the first display is exposed and the second display is hidden. In an open configuration, both displays are exposed. In a detached configuration, the second device is separated from the first device and the second device can operate as a mobile phone handset. The separated first and second device can communicate wirelessly. The detachable second device allows a user to utilize the full capabilities of the mobile phone without having to remove the second device away from the user's ear, thus preserving the privacy of a phone call. The first and second displays can interact with each other or operate independently in the open, closed or detached configurations.

  • Patent number: 7344177
Abstract: A sun visor extender and CD holder includes a frame and a pair of longitudinal sides. A plurality of notches is formed along a top surface of the sides. Oppositely disposed ends are formed with the sides and oriented orthogonal thereto. Open top and bottom faces define a central region between the sides and the ends. Straps traverse across a width of the frame and are anchored thereto and span subjacent to the top and bottom faces. A storage rack is attached to the frame and has shoulders bulging outwardly from a bottom surface thereof. The rack is oppositely faced from the straps and extends along an entire surface area of the top surface of the frame. A sun-blocking plate has a body interfitted between the sides and the ends and is supported by the straps.

  • Patent number: 7338224
Abstract: A plurality of embodiments of improved ergonomic keyboards for interfacing with a user's arms, wrists, hands and fingers in a more natural way, i.e., in ways that are optimally suited to human typing. In various non-limiting embodiments, the invention provides optimal finger pressing angles, provides optimal range(s) for “gable” angling, flattens the outer edges of the gable, thins key patterns of split key arrangements, raises (or lowers) the wrist rest to an optimal position, and/or splits the wrist rest into two (or more) components.

  • Publication number: 20070088248
Abstract: The invention provides devices for the disruption of one or more layers of skin and methods of their use to administer therapeutic agents, e.g., antigens or drugs. The devices are designed to disrupt a defined area of skin. The defined area can approximate the area that a patch or other suitable vehicle for therapeutic agent, e.g., drug or vaccine, delivery is designed to contact. Exemplary devices employ a mask to define the area to be disrupted. Other devices disrupt a defined area by rotating in place. For devices that employ a mask that is secured to the skin, the invention provides methods of disrupting the stratum corneum by first securing the mask to the skin and then disrupting the skin. For rotating devices, the disrupting member is simply placed against the skin and actuated to effect disruption.

  • Publication number: 20070021515
Abstract: An expandable starch-based composition includes a starch, a volatile blowing agent, a non-volatile plasticizer, nucleating agent, and a water-resistant polymer. The expandable starch-based composition can be characterized by having a plasticized starch capable of expanding when rapidly heated to above the boiling point of the volatile blowing agent and the softening point of the plasticized starch. The composition can be used in a method of manufacturing an expandable starch-based bead, wherein the method includes: introducing the composition into an extruder; heating and mixing the composition in order to yield a thermoplastic melt; extruding the thermoplastic melt through a die opening to yield an extruded strand; cooling the extruded strand; and cutting the cooled strand in to beads.

  • Publication number: 20070021534
Abstract: A fiber-reinforced and starch-based composition can be prepared by combining two fractions. The first fraction can include a gelatinized starch, water, and fibers, wherein the fibers are substantially homogenously mixed with the starch in an amount sufficient to structurally reinforce the mechanical characteristics of the starch-based composition. The second fraction is then combined with the first fraction, wherein the second fraction can include non-gelatinized starch, non-volatile plasticizer, and a water-resistant polymer. The composition is mixed so as to form a thermoplastic composition being capable of expanding when rapidly heated to above the boiling point of water and the softening point of the plasticized starch. Additionally, fiber-reinforced articles can be prepared from a method of processing the starch-based compositions. Such a method includes introducing the fiber-reinforced starch-based composition into a mold, and molding the composition into a fiber-reinforced article.

  • Publication number: 20060269593
Abstract: A transcutaneous immunization system delivers antigen to immune cells without perforation of the skin, and induces an immune response in an animal or human. The system uses an adjuvant, preferably an ADP-ribosylating exotoxin, to induce an antigen-specific immune response (e.g., humoral and/or cellular effectors) after transcutaneous application of a formulation containing antigen and adjuvant to intact skin of the animal or human. The efficiency of immunization may be enhanced by adding hydrating agents (e.g., liposomes), penetration enhancers, or occlusive dressings to the transcutaneous delivery system. This system may allow activation of Langerhans cells in the skin, migration of the Langerhans cells to lymph nodes, and antigen presentation.
