  • Publication number: 20080180168
Abstract: An amplifier includes a signal input, a first, second and third amplification path. A coupling element having a first and a second output terminal is coupled to respective input terminals of the first and second amplification paths, and is coupled with a third terminal to an input terminal of the third amplification path. In a first mode of operation the coupling element provides a signal at the first and second output terminals, wherein the signal at the second output terminal comprising a phase shift with respect to the signal at the first output terminal. In a second mode of operation, the coupling element provides a signal at the third output terminal, wherein the provided signal is received at the input terminal and reflected on the first and second output terminals.

  • Publication number: 20070153937
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to the field of automatic power control (APC) circuitries used in the analog front end of a mobile transmitter. It particularly refers to a power control circuitry (101M, 101N) and a corresponding method for controlling the power level (Pout) of an RF signal (x(t)) to be transmitted at the output port of a variable-gain power amplifier (105) by performing an additional regulation of the APC loop's reference signal (Vref). Thereby, it is proposed to increase the radiated RF power (Pout) in case a transmitting antenna (110) is mismatched to said power amplifier (105) in order to not release an ongoing call. In case there is a subject very close to the terminal antenna, the antenna load is changed and the increased reflected signal is measured.

  • Publication number: 20070018729
Abstract: An amplifier arrangement is proposed which has an amplifier with adjustable amplification having an output. An impedance transformer circuit is connected to the output. Said circuit is designed for transforming a high output impedance of the adjustable amplifier into a low impedance at its output. The amplifier arrangement contains at least two switchable elements having a reactance, which elements are connected in each case by a first terminal to the output of the impedance transformer circuit, and by a second terminal to a reference potential terminal. The switchable elements are designed for changing the impedance at the output of the impedance transformer circuit depending on a switch position of a switching means. A load impedance at the output of the amplifier is consequently varied by simple means when the output level of the amplifier changes.

  • Publication number: 20060126754
Abstract: Coherent modulator architectures of wireless communication devices are used for the processing of modulated RF signals. The circuitry comprises a DC/DC converter (204) which serves as an amplitude modulator, different amplification stages (204, 206, 212, 214), a bypass path (215) to selectively bypass at least one (214) of a cascade of class C, D, E, or F power amplifiers (212, 214), and an automatic power control (APC) loop (220) that guarantees power stability over time and temperature variations. To increase the efficiency of the amplification procedures needed for an amplitude modulation, the slow (narrowband) high-level components (222) and the fast (wideband) low-level components (224) of the signal representing the magnitude (I xLp (t) 1) of an I/Q modulation state (xLp (t)) are amplified in separate stages (204, 206) and are then combined by sup plying the low-level components (224) to a power amplifier (206) whose gain is controlled depending on the amplified high-level components (222).

  • Publication number: 20060040623
Abstract: An amplitude modulator is provided, which has a first supply connection for supplying a supply potential and a second supply connection for supplying a ground potential. An amplifier stage with a push-pull output stage has a signal input for supplying a signal, and has a single-pole output for emitting a single-ended signal. In order to supply the push-pull output stage, the amplifier stage is connected in a supply path between the first and the second supply connection. A first controllable voltage source and a second controllable voltage source are also provided, whose control inputs are connected to a connection for control purposes by means of a differential modulation signal, and are connected between the amplifier stage and the first supply connection, or the amplifier stage and the second supply connection. Amplitude modulation is thus achieved by modulation of the supply voltage or of the supply current to the push-pull output stage.
