Abstract: An electrical connector (1) comprises an insulating housing (10) defining an insertion hole (122) adapted for insertion of the plug connector. A plurality of terminal receiving slots (170) is defined beside the insertion hole. A plurality of signal terminals (21, 22, 23, 24, 25) is assembled within the terminal receiving slots. Each terminal has a soldering tail (212, 222, 232, 243, 252) located outside the housing. The soldering tails each have a bottom end located between top and bottom walls of the housing and soldered to a printed circuit board (4). Each terminal further comprises a mating portion (213, 223, 233, 243, 253) extending into the insertion hole adapted for contacting with a complementary plug. A shielding (30) is mounted to the housing and having a grounding plate (33) extending downwardly beyond the bottom wall of the housing, adapted for engaging with a conductive grounding device.

Abstract: An audio jack (1) comprises an insulative housing (3), a shield (2) enclosing the housing, and a plurality of contacts (4) assembled in the housing. The housing comprises a mating face (32) toward a complementary plug connector, a pair of mating heads (320) extending forwardly from the mating face, and two pairs of opposite supporting ribs (321) formed at the junctions between the mating head and the mating face to protect the mating heads from being broken for repeated insertions or undue insertion.

Abstract: A modular jack connector assembly (1) comprises an insulative housing (10), and a conductive outer shield (30). A first receiving space (11) is defined in the housing, for receiving a complementary modular plug. A plurality of first contacts (21) is disposed in the housing. Each first contact comprises a contact portion (21a), a bent portion (21b), and a tail portion (21c). An opening (35) is defined in the shield. The bent portions of the first spring contacts are exposed in the opening, such that a substantial gap exists between the bent portions and the shield. As a result, if high voltage is applied tithe shield, current cannot jump from the shield to the bent portions. Thus damage to other associated components of the system is avoided.

The housing (1) includes a protrusion (13) which has a front face (131) defining a locating hole therein. The shielding device includes two front shells (3) surrounding the mating sections (12) and a rear shell (4). Tabs (32a) extend from the front shells (3) and each defines a hole (32b) therein. The metal pad (5) is mounted to the protrusion, including a body section (52) retained in the locating hole (13a) of the housing (1) and defining an inner-threaded hole (53). A bolt (8) extends through a through hole (71) defined in the panel (7) and the holes (32b) of the front shells (3) in sequence and then engages the inner-threaded hole (53) of the pad (5) for securing the connector to the panel (7).

Abstract: A modular jack (1) includes an insulative housing (10), a plurality of contacts (20) received in the housing, a LED (4) and a tab (40). The insulative housing has a bottom wall (10b) defining a first slot (16) and a second slot (18) communicated with the first slot. A post (18a) projects from an interior surface of the second slot. The LED comprises an indicator (32) received in the first slot, and a pair of leads (34) extending from the indicator and received in the second slot. The tab is received in the second slot and engaged with the leads. A through hole (42a) is defined in the tab for downward extension of the post.

The contact module has an insulative portion (30; 30′) assembled in the insulative housing and a number of electrical contacts (32; 32′) retained to the insulative portion and partly extending into the receiving cavity. Each cutout surrounds a projection (122). Each boardlock consists of a body (44), a head (42) projecting upwardly from the body and seated in a corresponding recess, a pair of arms (45) projecting from the body and locking to the projections, and a pair of feet (43). The shield has a pair of fingers (33) extending across the heads for fitting the boardlocks to the base wall and establishing a grounding path therethrough. The width of the connector is minimized to substantially as that of the mating wall.
