    Abstract: A universal series bus (USB) connector (1) includes an insulative housing (12), a number of contacts (14) received in the housing and a metal shell (15) enclosing the housing and the contacts in the metal shell. The metal shell includes a front shield (16) and a rear shield (18) engaging with each other. The rear shield has a pair of board locks (184) at opposite sides thereof, which downwardly extend beyond a rear bottom surface (125) of the housing for mounting to a printed circuit board (PCB) (2). The front shield has a rear edge (163) confronting the rear shield. The front shield includes a pair of back plates (167) rearwardly extending from the rear edge thereof and sandwiching the rear shield therebetween. The front shield further includes two supporting devices (168) outwardly extending from the rear edge thereof and locating at opposite sides thereof. The two supporting devices each are inverted L-shaped and have a pin portion (1684) mountable to the PCB.

    Abstract: A USB receptacle connector (1) comprises an insulative housing (10), a plurality of terminals (14) received in the insulative housing and a shell (11 ) covering the insulative housing. The frond end of the shell forms a mating port (111 ) for insertion of a mating plug connector (1′). Either of two sidewalls (112) of the mating port defines a contact tab (115) which makes the shell of the USB receptacle connector always contact with a shell (11′) of the mating plug connector. Thus, the two shells are continuously grounded so as to ensure reliable grounding and EMI shielding.

The insulative housing defines a number of passageways (13) extending therethrough. Each electrical contact includes a contacting portion (31), a fixing portion (32) and a mounting portion (33). The contacting and fixing portions are received in the passageways. One of the electrical contacts includes a connecting portion (34) between the fixing and mounting portions and the others of the electrical contacts each include a transitional portion (37) between the fixing and the mounting portions. The connecting portion is coplanar to the mounting portions and the transitional portions define a plane perpendicular to a plane defined by the connecting portion and a plane defined by the mounting portions, respectively.

    Abstract: An electrical connector includes a dielectric housing (1), a terminal module (2), a shielding shell (3), a pair of grounding plates (15), a pair of board locks (14) and a pair of rivets (13). The terminal module (2) is attached to the dielectric housing (1) so that a plurality of terminals (4) extends through a mating projection (8) of the housing (1). The shielding shell (3) encloses the mating projection (8). The board locks (14) and grounding plates (15) are fixed to both ends of the housing (1) by the rivets (13). A resilient finger (152) of each grounding plate (15) contacts the shielding shell (3). Engaging legs (142) of the board locks (14) are adapted to mount to a printed circuit board and connect with a grounding trace of the printed circuit board. Thus the shielding shell (3) is electrically grounded to the grounding traces via the grounding plates (15) and board locks (14).

    Abstract: An electrical connector (100) comprises a housing (1), a number of terminals (2) retained in the housing, and a pair of metal walls (30) secured to the housing, and a pair of metal soldering pads (33). The housing includes a base (10), a mating board (12), and a pair of sidewalls (11) adjoining the base. Each sidewall is bridged to the base by a plurality of ribs (119). Each metal wall defines a plurality of slits (31), through which the ribs extend to retain the metal walls to the base. Only one insert molding process is required to manufacture the connector. During the high-temperature process of soldering the soldering pads to a printed circuit board, the metal walls strengthen the base and the sidewalls. Longitudinal distortion of the base and the sidewalls is thereby minimized. Accordingly, coplanarity of the terminals and quality of soldering is maximized.
