  • Publication number: 20050059168
Abstract: Methods, compositions and articles of manufacture involving cationic conjugated conformationally flexible polymers are provided. A method for the synthesis of cationic water-soluble polymers with linkages along the polymer main chain structure which disrupt the ability of the polymers to form extended-rod structures is provided. Such polymers may serve in the fabrication of novel optoelectronic devices and in the development of highly efficient biosensors. The invention further relates to the application of these polymers in assay methods.

  • Publication number: 20050035346
Abstract: Optoelectronic devices and methods for their fabrication having enhanced and controllable rates of the radiative relaxation of triplet light emitters are provided exemplified by organic light emitting devices based on phosphorescent materials with enhanced emission properties. Acceleration of the radiative processes is achieved by the interaction of the light emitting species with surface plasmon resonances in the vicinity of metal surfaces. Non-radiative Förster-type processes are efficiently suppressed by introducing a transparent dielectric or molecular layer between the metal surface and the chromophore. For materials with low emission oscillator strengths (such as triplet emitters), the optimal separation distance from the metal surface is determined, thus suppressing energy transfer and achieving a significant acceleration of the emission rate.

  • Publication number: 20050003386
Abstract: Methods, compositions and articles of manufacture for assaying a sample for a target polynucleotide are provided. A sample suspected of containing the target polynucleotide is contacted with a polycationic multichromophore and a sensor PBP that can bind to the target polynucleotide. The sensor PBP comprises a signaling chromophore to absorb energy from the excited multichromophore and emit light in the presence of the target polynucleotide. The methods can be used in multiplex form. Kits comprising reagents for performing such methods are also provided.

  • Patent number: 5965280
Abstract: A PPV based electroluminescent device and method for constructing the same. The electroluminescent device is constructed on a substrate by depositing a layer of material having a PPV precursor and photoacid generator on the substrate. The substrate typically includes the anode for the device. The PPV precursor is converted to PPV in the presence of an acid. The photoacid generator produces an acid when exposed to electromagnetic radiation. Those portions of the layer that are not to contain electroluminescent elements are masked. The unmasked portion is then illuminated with electromagnetic radiation; and any unreacted PPV precursor is removed to provide a plurality of isolated PPV regions on the substrate. An electron transport layer is then deposited over the PPV regions and the cathode is deposited on top of the electron transport layer.
