  • Publication number: 20100207316
Abstract: A store for storing value sheets such as banknotes in a stack and for dispensing the value notes from the stack. When more than a single value sheet is dispensed from the stack, the store returns all but one of the value sheets to the stack while moving the stack to reduce friction between the returning value sheet and the topmost value sheet of the stack. Means for securing the stack are also provided: a support for the stack is anchored and/or extra pressure is applied to the stack. The store includes means for indicating when the stack contains more than a predetermined number of value sheets and means for preventing securing of the store when the predetermined number of value sheets is exceeded. A value sheet store with part of a sidewall integrally formed with the lid. A value sheet store which includes a lid attached to a housing by a hinge located on an edge of the housing. Apparatus and a method for determining the height of a stack of value sheets.

  • Publication number: 20070184466
Abstract: The present invention is based upon the discovery that endothelial cells exposed to atheroprotectiveflow increase expression of the transcription factor KLF2 via a distinct flow-mediated signaling pathway and that this, in turn, modulates the activity of a series of genes that are responsible for maintaining the cells in an atherosclerosis-resistant state. By carrying out analyses to determine the extent to which endothelial cells are expressing these genes, a determination can be made concerning whether they are in a healthy state and factors can be examined for their effect on this state. In addition, the invention includes microarray plates or slides that can be used in carrying out such analyses.

  • Patent number: 7163808
Abstract: Arterial and venous smooth muscle cells are molecularly distinct from the earliest stages of angiogenesis through to adulthood. This distinction is revealed by expression on arterial cells (e.g., arterial endothelial cells, arterial smooth muscle cells) of a transmembrane ligand, called EphrinB2 whose receptor EphB4 is expressed on venous cells. Targeted disruption of the EphrinB2 gene prevents the remodeling of veins from a capillary plexus into properly branched structures. Moreover, it also disrupts the remodeling of arteries, suggesting that reciprocal interactions between pre-specified arterial and venous cells are necessary for angiogenesis. Expression of EphrinB2 in arterial cells (e.g.

  • Patent number: 7100913
Abstract: A value sheet handling apparatus comprises an actuating mechanism for exerting pressure onto a value sheet so as to move the value sheet, and further comprises detecting means to detect movement of the value sheet with respect to the actuating mechanism, wherein if the detecting means ascertains that the value sheet has not been moved by the actuating mechanism the pressure exerted Onto die flexible media is increased until motion of the value sheet is detected. Additionally or alternatively, the pressure is varied in dependence on the type of the value sheet. The value sheet is dispensed from a stack by buckling the sheet, the rest of the stack being gripped in the area exposed by the buckling of the sheet.

  • Patent number: 7007940
Abstract: A banknote store can remove banknotes individually from a stack by light air pressure extending over a substantial area of the banknote, the banknote then being transportable without needing to move the source of the reduced pressure. Banknotes are added individually by using reduced pressure to hold them against a transport belt before they are deposited on the stack.

  • Patent number: 6877741
Abstract: Manually-insert banknotes are aligned by using a fan to reduce the air pressure above a banknote so that it is pulled into engagement with a drive means which drives the edge of the banknote to a guide, causing the banknote to rotate until the edge is aligned with the guide.

  • Patent number: 6625629
Abstract: A system (100) for signal processing using one or more filters includes a controller (102) that partitions an impulse response of a filter into a plurality of impulse response blocks and calculates a Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) of each impulse response block using a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) algorithm. A processor (104) that is coupled to the controller (102) receives an input sample block including samples of a signal to be processed and receives the DFT of each impulse response block from the controller (102). The processor (104) calculates a DFT of the input sample block using an FFT algorithm, performs a spectral multiplication of the DFT of the input sample block with the DFT of each impulse response block, overlap-adds the blocks resulting from each spectral multiplication to create an output spectral block, performs an inverse FFT on the output spectral block to create an output sample block, and communicates the output sample block.
