Patent number: 8886114Abstract: Teachings herein include a base station and a relay node for propagating system information changes from the base station to the relay node. Upon receiving changes from the base station, the relay node advantageously determines whether to apply the changes immediately or to defer application until a set time period. The relay node then applies the changes at a time in accordance with that determination. In some embodiments, the relay node employs deferred application for fundamental changes (those changes that would fatally disrupt ongoing communications if applied before the set time period), but employs immediate application for non-fundamental changes in order to minimize relay node complexity. Regardless, the relay node may make the determination based on preconfigured rules, or on control indicators received from the base station. Correspondingly, the base station may generate the control indicators to explicitly direct the relay node to employ immediate application or deferred application.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2011Date of Patent: November 11, 2014Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Gunnar Mildh, Jessica Östergaard

Publication number: 20140247807Abstract: A user equipment, UE, (20) determines a mobility state of a Wi-Fi access point, AP, as one of a moving mobility state and a non-moving mobility state along with control information relating to UE cell (re-)selection and/or handover behavior based on the determined mobility state of the Wi-Fi access point, AP. The UE then controls its cell (re-)selection and/or handover behavior in relation to the Wi-Fi access point, AP based on the determined control information. In a preferred embodiment, the UE can communicate with a cellular base station, BS, and with the Wi-Fi access point, AP. The UE detects the Wi-Fi AP, determines that the Wi-Fi AP is moving based on a moving AP indication, and controls cell (re-Selection and/or handover behavior of the UE based on the determination that the Wi-Fi AP is moving along with other information.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 16, 2012Publication date: September 4, 2014Applicant: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Erik Westerberg, Muhammad Kazmi, Gunnar Mildh, Oumer Teyeb, Jari Vikberg

Patent number: 8780783Abstract: Teachings herein include a base station for propagating system information changes from the base station to the relay node. Upon transmitting system information changes to the relay node, the base station defers data transmission between the base station and the relay node until a set time period. In many embodiments, the base station is configured to actually apply the system information changes during this time period, while the relay node applies the changes before then, e.g., by applying them immediately upon reception. The base station's deferral of data transmission until the set time period thus ensures that data transmission does not occur until both the base station and the relay node have applied the pending changes. This in turn prevents radio link failure from occurring due to use of different system parameters by the base station and relay node.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2011Date of Patent: July 15, 2014Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Gunnar Mildh, Jessica Östergaard

Publication number: 20140169277Abstract: Handling of UE capability information in a mobile telecommunications network wherein an eNodeB receives information regarding the UE capability information from the UE and stores the information. The eNodeB sends the UE capability information to the EPC, i.e., to an MME, which receives and stores the UE capability information. When the UE transits from idle to active state, does an initial attach, or when a part of the UE capabilities have changed, it sends a message to the eNodeB regarding the update. The eNodeB forwards the message to the MME, which sends a response associated with the previously stored UE capability information to the eNodeB. The eNodeB decides whether the UE capabilities stored in the MME is up-to-date based on the message from the UE and the response from the MME. If the UE holds updated UE capabilities the eNodeB can request updated UE capability information from the UE.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 19, 2014Publication date: June 19, 2014Inventors: Gunnar Mildh, Ingrid Nordstrand, András Rácz, Magnus Stattin, Pontus Wallentin
