  • Patent number: 7503565
Abstract: A drill chuck has a chuck body formed with an annular row of radially outwardly directed teeth. A sleeve axially fixed but rotatable about the chuck axis on the chuck body has a plurality of angularly spaced guides holding respective radially displaceable jaws. A screwthread displaces the jaws radially toward each other on rotation of the sleeve in a tightening direction on the body and displaces the jaws radially apart on rotation of the sleeve in an opposite loosening direction. A pawl pivoted on the inner sleeve has a tip radially displaceable between an inner blocking position engaging the body teeth and allowing rotation of the sleeve on the body only in the tightening direction and an outer freeing position clear of the body teeth and permitting rotation of the sleeve on the body in both of the directions. A spring urges the pawl into the inner blocking position.

  • Patent number: 7389993
Abstract: A drill chuck has an externally toothed body, a plurality of jaws, and a tightening ring rotatable on the body in tightening and loosening directions. Screwthreads between the tightening ring and the jaws move the jaws radially. A pawl engageable with the teeth is angularly fixed on the tightening ring and can shift between a retaining position engaging the teeth and a freeing position disengaged from the teeth. An adjustment sleeve is limitedly angularly displaceable on the body relative to the tightening ring between a locked end position and an unlocked end position. A cam on the adjustment sleeve can displace the pawl into the retaining position when the adjustment sleeve is in the locked end position and into the freeing position when the adjustment sleeve is in the unlocked end position. A locking part can engage the pawl in the retaining position thereof to lock the chuck.

  • Patent number: 6902172
Abstract: A drill chuck has a chuck body centered on a longitudinal axis and formed with a plurality of forwardly open angled guides spaced about the axis. Respective jaws displaceable along the guides in the chuck body are each formed with a row of teeth. A tightening sleeve rotatably surrounding the body is axially fixed to a ring rotatable on the body about the axis and formed with a screwthread meshing with the teeth of the jaws so that rotation of the sleeve and ring in one direction moves the jaws radially together and opposite rotation moves them radially apart, A first axially elastically deformable spring seated in the chuck body bears axially forward on the ring, and a second axially elastically deformable spring seated in the chuck body bears axially rearward on the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 6889986
Abstract: A drill chuck has a chuck body formed with a plurality of forwardly open angled guide passages and with a radially open groove having an axially rearwardly directed front face and an axially forwardly directed rear face. Respective jaws displaceable in the passages each have a row of radially outwardly directed teeth exposed at the groove. A tightening ring engaged in the groove and having an internal screwthread meshing with the teeth of the jaws is formed with a front face axially confronting the front groove face and can rotate on the body about the axis. An angled front spring washer engaged between the front faces is elastically deformable on axial forward displacement of the tightening ring to permit limited relative axial movement of the ring and body.

  • Patent number: 6883808
Abstract: A drill-chuck jaw hag an elongated metal body formed with a toothed back face and an opposite front face. The body is generally symmetrical to a longitudinal plane bisecting the back and front faces. A pair of hard-metal insert parts fixed to the front face are each formed with a projecting linear edge extending longitudinally parallel to but offset from the plane. The edges symmetrically flank the plane.

  • Patent number: 6837499
Abstract: A chuck has a chuck body rotatable about a main axis and a plate displaceable axially on the body between an outer position and an inner position. Springs urge the plate into the outer position. A locking element on the body can move between a blocking position preventing displacement of the plate from the outer position into the inner position and a freeing position permitting such displacement. A plurality of jaw holders angularly spaced about the axis are fixed axially on the plate and each have radially displaceable outer and inner ends. A piston axially displaceable in the body has cam formations engaging the jaw-holder inner ends for radially displacing the jaw-holder outer ends on axial displacement of the piston.

  • Publication number: 20040227309
Abstract: A drill chuck has a chuck body extending along and rotatable about an axis and formed with an axially forwardly open to 1 seat and with a plurality of angled guides opening axially forward into the seat and holding respective jaws having toothed outer edges. An inner sleeve has a screwthread threadedly engaging the jaw outer edges, is axially shiftable on the body, and can rotate about the axis to axially displace the jaws. A mechanism engaged between the inner sleeve and the chuck body can axially displace the inner sleeve relative to the body and thereby axially displace the jaws.

  • Patent number: 6726222
Abstract: A drill chuck has a chuck body centered on an axis and forming an axially forwardly open bit-receiving recess, an axially forwardly open polygonal-section seat at a base of the recess, and a plurality of jaws spaced angularly around the seat. The jaws can be displaced radially inward and outward to grip a bit in the recess. An element can move in the base of the recess between a blocking position in front of the polygonal-section seat and preventing entry of a bit thereinto and a freeing position clear of the seat and permitting entry of a bit thereinto. This element can be actuated for movement between the blocking and freeing positions either manually or automatically.

  • Patent number: 6575478
Abstract: A chuck body is formed with angled guides holding respective jaws. A tightening ring rotatable about the axis on the chuck body has a screwthread meshing with toothed edges of the jaws so that rotation of the ring in one direction moves the jaws axially forward and radially together and opposite rotation moves the jaws axially rearward and radially apart. A spring washer is rotatable about the axis on the body between the tightening ring and the rear jaw faces. Rearwardly directed jaw faces axially rearwardly engage and press the washer toward the tightening ring and coupling formations on the washer and ring angularly lock the washer to the ring when the washer is pressed axially rearward by the faces. Stops on the washer can engage the jaws for permitting only limited relative angular movement of the washer and jaws when the faces are pressed axially rearward against the washer.
