  • Patent number: 8210015
Abstract: A method for rolling plate or strip in a rolling stand with work rolls supported on backup rolls or on intermediate rolls with backup rolls, wherein the adjustment of the roll gap profile is carried out by axial shifting of pairs of rolls provided with curved contours. The adjustment of the roll gap profile is carried out by at least two pairs of rolls, which have differently curved contours and can be axially shifted independently of each other and whose different contours are calculated by splitting the resultant desired roll gap profiles that describe the roll gap profile into at least two different desired roll gap profiles and are transferred to the pairs of rolls.

  • Publication number: 20070240475
Abstract: When rolling sheets or strips in roll stands using working rolls, which are supported on back-up rolls or on intermediate rolls having back-up rolls, whereby the setting of the roll gap is effected by axially displacing roll pairs provided with curved contours, differences from the required profile occur in the instance of larger widths of a product range due to excessive extensions in the edge areas or in the quarter areas that are manifested in the form of so-called quarter waves in the flatness of the product.

  • Publication number: 20070089470
Abstract: A roll stand for rolled strips of different materials includes rolls which are axially displaceable under load, wherein each displaceable roll has at least one hydrodynamic oil film bearing. a hydraulic unit for effecting the axial displacements is integrated into the hydrodynamic oil film bearing such that the hydraulic unit is adapted to the shape of the hydrodynamic oil film bearing. The diameter of the hydraulic unit is greater than the diameter of the bearing shell of the hydrodynamic oil film bearing. an annular piston has on a circumference thereof a ring which is axially displaceable with the annular piston in a groove of the annular cylinder, wherein annular space portions of the piston are in connection with a control hydraulic system through separate hydraulic connections, so that pressure can be applied to both sides of the ring of the annular piston. each roll has a position indicator connected to a free end of the roll neck of the roll for determining axial position.

  • Patent number: 7143499
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing metal strips and sheets involving the following method steps: pouring a strand, which is provided in the form (1) of thin slabs and which is comprised of carbon steel or special steel, into a casting machine (4) and rolling the cast product away from the casting heat. The aim of the invention is to utilize free capacities of existing installations, that is, installations not operating at full capacity, with which primary carbon steels are produced, in order to supplement other types of steel or to supplement cast products produced in another manner. To this end, the invention provides that, together with these first cast products (1), at least second cast products (2), which are produced in a second process route (II) from special steel if the first thin slabs are cast from carbon steel or are produced from carbon steel if the first thin slabs are cast from special steel, are rolled within a joint rolling program.

  • Patent number: 7107891
Abstract: A high-speed shear with a knife, particularly a chisel-type knife with a knife edge, arranged on at least one of two oppositely arranged drums, wherein the knife can be accelerated to the feeding speed of the rolled strip and the drums can be adjusted relative to each other for carrying out a cut. At least one drive unit provided for the drums serves to accelerate the drums to the speed of the rolled strip to be cut and at least one of the drums may be provided with a separately controllable adjusting device. The chisel-type knife of the knife drum is mounted so as to protrude from the cutting circle towards the anvil or the surface portion of the second drum acting as an anvil and to mount the chisel-type knife of the knife drum so as to be resiliently supported against a predetermined restoring force.

  • Patent number: 6913065
Abstract: A device for continuously casting metals, especially steel, consists of multipleconsecutive segments (1) which each form the strand guide for casting strands of different widths (4), with roller pairs (2). The rollers are rotationally mounted on segment frames (5; 6), these segment frames (5; 6) each being braced with strand guide frames (10) on both sides. The aim of the invention is to reduce profile increases in the cross-section of the casting strand (4d) in the residual solidification area (4b), by providing a power mechanism (13) at least on the fixed side of the segment frame (5) of a segment (1), between the segment frame (5) and a transversal member (11) connecting the strand guide frames (10) on the two sides. Said power mechanism is situated approximately on the middle strand axis. The power transmission element (13a) of the power mechanism acts upon the segment frame (5), while its base (13b) is supported on the transversal member (11).

  • Publication number: 20030167817
Abstract: The invention relates to a four- or six-high rolling stand for a rolling train and to a method for operating the same. The aim of the invention is to provide rolling stands that can adapt rapidly to rolling products of different thicknesses and/or hardnesses. To achieve this, rolling stands are provided with minimum expenditure that can be selectively operated with both thin and thick working rolls. The inventive combined drive in the four- or six-high rolling stand allows thick working rolls to be directly connected to a motor, whereas thin working rolls are merely carried along by neighbouring back-up rolls or intermediate rolls by means of friction.

  • Patent number: 6578789
Abstract: The invention relates to a deflection method for deflecting a strip (3, 8), especially a metal strip (3, 8), from an initial guide channel (5) to a final guide channel (9) which runs next to said initial guide channel (5). When passing through the initial guide channel (5), the strip (3, 8) comprises an underside (II) which faces away from the final guide channel (9) and has an upper side (I) which faces toward the final guide channel (9). In order to support the deflection of the metal strip (3, 8) from the initial guide channel (5) to the final guide channel (9), the invention provides that the strip (3, 8) is subjected to the action of a medium (12) on the underside (II) thereof during the deflection. The invention also relates to a corresponding deflection device.

  • Patent number: 6568460
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for adjusting the profile of a continuously cast slab, particularly of a thin slab, wherein the profile is determined in accordance with given requirements with respect to its camber or wedge shape by the gap geometry of strand guide rollers of the guide segments of a strand guiding system. The method includes determining the adjustment of the strand guide rollers at least in the area of the residual solidification and the adjusting forces of adjusting means required for this purpose in such a way that a predeterminable desired value for the slab profile can be adjusted for any characteristic state of operation.

  • Patent number: 6533024
Abstract: In a method for changing a billet section of a continuous billet casting device from an initial section to a final section, the opposed billet sides interact with oppositely positioned roll supports of a billet guide arranged below a continuous casting die. The roll supports have segments with rolls, and each segment is individually adjustable with respect to its angular position relative to the billet. A controlled sequence of adjusting steps of the segments successively arranged in a direction of continuous casting is carried out, wherein, for reducing the section of the billet, the segments are advanced successively toward the billet in the continuous casting direction and, and for increasing the section of the billet, the segments are moved successively away from the billet in the continuous casting direction.
