  • Publication number: 20020029865
Abstract: A continuous casting method and apparatus in which a distributor deposits a strand of molten steel upon a cooled surface of casting roll to a thickness of 1.0 to 6.0 mm, the cooling strand passes through the nip or gap between a fist counterroll and the casting roll and hardening strip is then passed through at least a first further nip between one or more further counterrolls and the surface of the casting roll. The height of the molten metal in the distributor is controlled to be constant by detecting the surface of the melt and regulating the outflow from an intermediate receptacle into the distributor and/or from the casting ladle into the intermediate receptacle so that the peripheral speed of the casting roll is matched to the speed with which the strand emerges from the distributor onto the casting roll.

  • Publication number: 20020029677
Abstract: A high-speed shear with a knife, particularly a chisel-type knife with a knife edge, arranged on at least one of two oppositely arranged drums, wherein the knife can be accelerated to the feeding speed of the rolled strip and the drums can be adjusted relative to each other for carrying out a cut. At least one drive unit provided for the drums serves to accelerate the drums to the speed of the rolled strip to be cut and at least one of the drums may be provided with a separately controllable adjusting device. The chisel-type knife of the knife drum is mounted so as to protrude from the cutting circle towards the anvil or the surface portion of the second drum acting as an anvil and to mount the chisel-type knife of the knife drum so as to be resiliently supported against a predetermined restoring force.

  • Patent number: 6122950
Abstract: A hot rolling train with a walking beam furnace, a reversing stand following the walking beam furnace and possibly shears and/or descaling devices, as well as a subsequent hot strip finish-rolling train for manufacturing thin, austenitically rolled hot strip is retrofitted with an equalizing furnace provided between the reversing stand and the hot strip finish-rolling train, wherein the equalizing furnace has a number of receiving locations for strips to be heated for equalizing the strip in order to ensure a total heating time for each preliminary strip which is a multiple of the rolling time and the hot strip finish-rolling train.

  • Patent number: 5738570
Abstract: An arrangement for working or machining rolls which are mounted through chocks in roll housings. The arrangement includes a unit with abrasives for each roll, wherein the unit is mounted so as to be rotatable relative to the roll and so as to be adjustable relative to the roll. The adjustable unit includes a roller mounted in the chock of the roll to be subjected to grinding, wherein the roller is adjustable through bearings thereof relative to the roll to be subjected to grinding.

  • Patent number: 5735164
Abstract: An upsetting tool of a pair of upsetting tools for the deformation of continuously cast slabs in a slab upsetting press is composed of two connecting rods which are driven through two eccentric shafts and which support the upsetting tool and guide the upsetting tool in parallel direction. Hinged to the connecting rods is a piston/cylinder unit for producing a movement of the upsetting tool synchronously with the slab movement on a roller table. The upsetting tool has upsetting surfaces for acting on one of the two longitudinal sides of the slab. The upsetting surfaces extend parallel or inclined relative to the direction of movement of the slab. The upsetting surfaces are located next to one another so as to form edges extending transversely of the direction of movement of the slab, wherein upsetting surfaces inclined away from the longitudinal side surfaces of the slab are arranged following or possibly in front of an upsetting surface extending parallel to the travel direction of the slab.
