Abstract: Storage-stable, pearlescent hair conditioning composition consisting of 0.2 to 10 percent by weight glycerin monolauric acid ester, 0.2 to 10 percent by weight of a straight-chain fatty alcohol with 10 to 18 carbon atoms or a mixture of the fatty alcohols, 0.050 to 5 percent by weight of a quaternary compound selected from the group consisting of compounds having the general formula (I): ##STR1## and compounds having the general formula (II): ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl radicals having 12 to 22 carbon atoms, cocamidoethyl, cocamidopropyl and R'--Y--, and R' is selected from the group consisting of alkyl radicals having 12 to 22 carbon atoms, and Y is --O--CO--CH.sub.2 -- or --CO--O--CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --; and wherein R.sub.2 is CH.sub.3, CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OH or CH.sub.2 CH.sub.3, and wherein R.sub.3 is CH.sub.3, CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OH, benzyl or acetamidyl, and wherein X is Cl, Br, CH.sub.3 SO.sub.4, 1/2SO.sub.4, dihydrogen phosphate, acetate or acetate; 70 to 99.

Abstract: The aqueous hair- and body-treatment composition having physiological and dermatological compatibility properties as well as a germ-inhibiting effect contains from 0.1 to 50 percent by weight of a surfactant or a surfactant mixture, from 0.01 to 2.0 percent by weight of sodium formate, ammonium formate, potassium formate or magnesium formate, from 0.05 to 2.0 percent by weight of a sorbic acid element selected from the group consisting of sorbic acid and salts of sorbic acid, including alkali metal salts of sorbic acid, particularly sodium sorbate, and from 0.1 to 1.5 percent by weight of phosphoric acid or an aliphatic organic acid containing from 2 to 6 carbon atoms and being free of amino and halogen substituents. A method of preserving an aqueous hair- and body-cleaning composition is also described.

Abstract: An agent for setting and caring for the hair, is based on a synergistic combination of (a) 0.1 to 10 percent by weight of a cationic copolymer of vinylimidazolium methochloride and vinylpyrrolidone as a quarternized copolymer of the vinylpyrrolidone and (b) 0.1 to 5.0 percent by weight of tetraoxyethylene laurylether.

Abstract: The cosmetic agent for the treatment of the hair and skin contains macromolecular surface-active, quaternary N-substituted chitosan derivatives having the formula (I)HO[C.sub.6 H.sub.11--x--y--z NO.sub.4 (R.sup.1).sub.x (R.sup.2).sub.y (R.sup.3).sub.z ].sub.p H (1)wherein x is from 0.04-0.4; y is from 0.04-0.92; z is from 0.04-0.92; (x+y+z).ltoreq.2; p is an integer from 100-100,000; R.sup.1 is acetyl; ##STR1## R.sup.4 is a C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 -alkyl radical; X is Cl, Br, I or CH.sub.3 SO.sub.4 ; o is 1-5; n is 5-20. The present invention also comprises chitosan derivatives having the formula (I). The chitosan derivatives are distinguished particularly by their surface-active properties, for example, their foam-forming and emulisyfing properties, and by their hair-setting and hair-conditioning effect.

Abstract: The hair dyeing composition in the form of an aqueous solution, an aqueous-alcoholic solution, a cream, a gel, a mixture which can be sprayed or an emulsion contains from 0.01 to 2.0% of a 2,6-Dinitro-phenol derivative of the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein X represents a member selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups containing one to four carbon atoms, monohydroxyalkyl groups containing one to four carbon atoms, perfluoroalkyl groups containing one to four carbon atoms, alkoxy groups containing one to four carbon atoms, monohydroxyalkoxy groups containing two to four carbon atoms, dihydroxyalkoxy groups containing three to four carbon atoms and halogens, and one or more cosmetic additives selected from the group consisting of glycerin, glycols, glycol ethers, hair car materials, wetting agents and emulsifiers, thickeners, softeners, preservatives, complexing agents and perfumes. The dyes of the formula (I) have good physiological properties and provide a variety of yellow shades.

Abstract: Nail polish is disclosed, based upon a film-former, a resin component and a solvent system, containing as film-former and/or resin component an O-benzyl-N-hydroxyalkyl chitosan fo the formula (I)HO[C.sub.6 H.sub.11-m-q NO.sub.4 (R.sup.1).sub.m (R.sup.2).sub.n (R.sup.3).sub.q ].sub.p H (I)(with m=0 to 0.6; n=0.1 to 10; q=0.1 to 4; p=an integer from 50 to 5,000; R.sup.1 =acetyl; R.sup.2 =hydroxyethyl, 2-hydroxypropyl or 2-hydroxybutyl and R.sup.3 =benzyl).The polish film obtained with the nail polish possesses a high luster, outstanding adhesion, as well as an increased hardness compared to nail polishes based upon nitro-cellulose, with even more sufficient elasticity. Also included in the present invention are the new O-benzyl-N-hydroxyalkyl-chitosans of formula (I).

Abstract: The invention is directed to cosmetic compositions for the treatment of hair or skin characterized in that they contain new N-hydroxybutyl-chitosans, or their salts, consisting of(a) 4 to 40 mole percent monomer units of the formula (I) ##STR1## and (b) 60 to 96 mole percent monomer units of the formula (II) ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are identical or different and designate hydrogen or the group ##STR3## with n being equal to an integer from 1 to 5, provided that R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are not simultaneously hydrogen in at least 50 percent of the units of formula (II). In addition, it is directed to new N-hydroxybutyl-chitosans and their salts and a process for producing these new compounds from butylene oxide and chitosan.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a cosmetic for the treatment of hair and skin which is characterized by a content of novel N-hydroxy-propyl-isopropyl ether chitosans consisting of (a) 4 to 40 mole percent of monomer units having the formula (I) ##STR1## and (b) 60 to 96 mole percent of monomer units having the formula (II) ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are identical or different and represent hydrogen or the group ##STR3## wherein n equals 1 or 2, with the condition that in at least half the units having the formula (II) R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 do not simultaneously represent hydrogen. The present invention also relates to novel N-hydroxy-propyl-isopropyl ether chitosans.

Abstract: The quaternary chitosan derivatives useful in cosmetic compositions are made by a process comprising reacting a chitosan consisting of 50 to 100% deacetylized chitin or a structurally modified chitosan made by reprecipitating and deep freezing, with glycidyl trialkyl ammonium halogenide, particularly glycidyl trimethyl ammonium chloride, and, if necessary, with glycidol. The reaction mixture is advantageously stirred for several hours at 10.degree. to 100.degree. C. The reaction may be performed in the presence of an organic or inorganic acid or base in water.

Abstract: New alkyl-hydroxypropyl-chitosans of the formula IHO[C.sub.6 H.sub.11-m-q NO.sub.4 (R.sup.1).sub.m (R.sup.2).sub.n (R.sup.3).sub.q ].sub.p H (I)(m=0-0.6; n=0.5-10; q=0.5-4; p=50-5000; R.sup.1 =acetyl; ##STR1## R.sup.3 =C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkyl) and their salts with organic or inorganic acids. The invention is directed, in addition, to a process for producing the chitosan derivatives of the formula I, as well as cosmetic compositions for the treatment of hair or skin, particularly compositions for strengthening hair, comprising a content of these chitosan derivatives. The described alkyl-hydroxypropyl-chitosans are distinguished by their favorable solubility in organic solvents. Therefore, they can also be used, for example, in anhydrous hairsprays.

Abstract: Cosmetic compositions are disclosed, for the treatment of skin or hair, with a content of new N-hydroxypropyl-chitosan derivatives, composed of (a) 4 to 40 Mol-% units of Formula (I) ##STR1## and (b) 60 to 96 Mol-% units of Formula (II) ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are the same or different and are each hydrogen or the group ##STR3## with n being equal to an integer from 1 to 5, with the proviso that in at least 50% of the units (II), R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are not simultaneously hydrogen, or the salts thereof; along with new N-hydroxypropyl-chitosan derivatives and their salts as well a a process for the production of these new compounds from propylene oxide and chitosan.

Abstract: The invention relates to cosmetic agents for treating of hairs or the skin which is characterized by a content of novel quaternary chitosan derivatives of the formulaHO[C.sub.6 H.sub.11-m NO.sub.4 (R.sup.1).sub.m (R.sup.2).sub.n (R.sup.3).sub.q ].sub.p H(m=0-0.5; n=0-6; q=0.005-3.0; p=10-50,000; R.sup.1 =acetyl; R.sup.2 =--CH.sub.2 CH(OH)--CH.sub.2 --O--, --CH.sub.2 --CH(CH.sub.2 OH)--O-- or --CH(CH.sub.2 OH)--CH.sub.2 --O--; R.sup.3 = ##STR1## with R.sup.4 =C.sub.1 - to C.sub.4 -alkyl and X=Cl, Br, or CH.sub.3 SO.sub.4.It relates in furtherance to the novel quaternary chitosan derivatives as well as processes for making the same. These chitosan derivatives have a good substantivity, among others, to hair keratin and show hair strengthening and hair conditioning characteristics.

Abstract: Pearlescent hair conditioning composition based on a quaternary compound and a fatty alcohol, consisting of (A) 0.2 to 10 percent by weight coconut fatty acid monoethanolamide, (B) 0.4 to 10 percent by weight of a straight-chain fatty alcohol with m carbon atoms (m=14 to 18), (C) 0.1 to 4 percent by weight of a quaternary compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 =C.sub.n -alkyl (n=12-22), coconut amidoethyl, coconut amidopropyl, R'--Y (R'--C.sub.n -alkyl, Y=--O--C(O)--CH.sub.2 - or --C(O)--O--CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --) R.sub.2 =CH.sub.3, CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OH or CH.sub.2 CH.sub.3, R.sub.3 =CH.sub.3, CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 OH, benzyl or acetamidyl, X.sup..crclbar. =C1.sup.-, Br.sup.-, CH.sub.3 SO.sub.4 --, 1/2SO.sub.4 2--, lactate.sup.- or acetate.sup.-, (D) 70 to 99.3 percent by weight water and (E) 0 to 24 percent by weight conventional cosmetic added substances, wherein m+n.gtoreq.29, A/B is 0.1 to 3, C/A+B=0.05 to 0.5, and the proportion by weight of the added substances is not greater than the sum of A+B+C.

Abstract: Process for the permanent deformation of hair, wherein the hair deforming agent as used, is prepared immediately before use, by commingling of two components. One component contains a hair keratin-reducing compound, while the other component consists of a minimum of one organic compound with activated multiple carbon-carbon bond or contains such compound. In given instances, inorganic redox catalysts are additionally contained. The ready-to-use deforming agent may, furthermore, contain redox indicators to allow determination of the usability of the hair keratin-reducing compound.By commingling the two components to a ready-to-use hair deforming agent, the keratin-reducing compound is gradually bonded by adduction to the unsaturated aliphatic compound and thus being rendered unusable for hair deformation. The concentration of the keratin-reducing compound can thus be reduced in the course of the period of application and be adapted to the gradually softening hair.

Abstract: Cosmetic compositions useful for treatment of hair or skin contain macromolecular glyceryl-chitosan having(a) 4-40 Mol-% units of the Formula (I) ##STR1## and (b) 60-96 Mol-% units of the Formula (II) ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are the same or different and are ##STR3## wherein R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are the same or different and are ##STR4## wherein either X=H and Y=CH.sub.2 OH, or Y=H and X=CH.sub.2 OH and n=2 to 5, with the proviso that for at least half of the units of the formula II, R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are not uniformly H, or their salts with organic or inorganic acids, in a suitable cosmetic carrier. Also disclosed are the compounds per se and a process for their production wherein chitosan composed of 60-96% entacetylated chitin is reacted with glycidol.

Abstract: A process and composition for the aftertreatment of permanently deformed hair. Often the permanent deformation leaves reducing agent or oxidant in the hair, which leads to considerable damage to the hair. Applying to the hair a composition containing glyoxylic acid and at least one organic compound having a multiple carbon-carbon bond, containing a carboxyl group bonded to the multiple bond directly or through a methylene group, which is activated by at least one multiple CO or CN bond conjugated to that multiple bond, avoids the damage caused by permanent deformation.

Abstract: A manned space flight body comprises a cylindrical shell and a shelf construction built into the axially extending, elongated cell defined by the shell. The shelf construction has a shape resembling a hollow prism and is comprised of a plurality of individual, radially extending and axially adjacent storage rooms for various systems used in space flight, and an axially extending operating room is in the free center of the cell surrounded by the shelf construction. All the storage rooms are accessible from the central operating room which is arranged to permit movement therethrough for access to the storage rooms.
