Abstract: Exemplary embodiments provide a needle shield remover that reliably engages with a distal cap of an automatic injection device and with one or more needle shields coupled to a syringe of the device. When a user removes the distal cap, the needle shield remover reliably removes the needle shields (e.g., a soft needle shield and a rigid needle shield) from the syringe, thereby exposing the injection needle for performing an injection. In an exemplary assembly method, a needle shield remover is engaged to a needle shield coupled to a syringe, prior to insertion of the syringe and needle shield remover assembly into a housing of the device. This exemplary assembly method allows visual inspection, outside the housing of the device, to ensure that the needle shield remover is correctly and reliably engaged to the needle shield before the syringe and needle shield remover assembly is inserted into the housing.

Abstract: An injector including a syringe arranged along a longitudinal axis, a removable cover for removable engagement with the syringe and a cover removal assembly including an outer portion which is engagable by a user and is movable axially in a cover disengagement direction along an axial travel path with respect to the longitudinal axis and an inner portion which includes at least one engagement portion which is engagable with the removable cover, whereby axial movement of the inner portion in the cover disengagement direction removes the removable cover from the syringe, at least one of the outer portion and the inner portion being configured such as to provide an axially floating lost motion engagement between the outer portion and the inner portion.

Abstract: A vial adaptor for releasably holding a vial (1010) and releasable connection to an injector (1008) comprising: a dual-sleeved member (11) comprising a forward facing sleeve (12) and a rearward facing sleeve (16) adapted to operably engage a front end of a forward housing (1040) of said injector (1008), and comprising a vial stopper piercing member (46); and a vial engaging element (60) adapted to slidingly translate within said forward facing sleeve (12) and releasibly hold said vial (1010) in a position whereby said vial stopper piercing member (46) pierces a stopper of said vial (1010), said vial engaging element (60) adapted to allow forward movement of a plunger of said injector (1008) when said vial (1010) is in said position.
