  • Patent number: 7848555
Abstract: A method for computer-aided detection of microcalcification clusters using a digital computer obtains digital mammography data for a single view image and normalizes and filters the image data to reduce noise. A first mask is generated and applied to the image data for defining the breast structure, forming a first cropped image. A second mask is generated and applied to the image data for defining muscle structure, forming a second cropped image. An artifact mask corresponding to vascular calcifications and known imaging artifacts is generated and applied to the first and second cropped images, defining first and second artifact-masked cropped images. In a repeated sequence, portions of each artifact-masked cropped image are processed using an enhancement algorithm and reducing edge effects to obtain a set of microcalcification cluster candidates and suspected microcalcification clusters.

  • Publication number: 20100167629
Abstract: A method for uniformly planarizing a wafer that includes determining a first wafer warped value at a first zone on the wafer, determining a second wafer warped value at a second zone on the wafer, and calculating a pressure difference based on the first and second wafer warped values at the first and second zones is provided. The method also includes performing a chemical mechanical polishing of the wafer, applying a first pressure based on the first wafer warped value to the wafer at the first zone during the chemical mechanical polishing, and applying a second pressure based on the second wafer warped value to the wafer at the second zone during the chemical mechanical polishing, a difference between the first pressure and the second pressure based on the pressure difference.

  • Publication number: 20090216079
Abstract: Novel capsule imaging devices, systems and methods are provided for in vivo imaging applications, such as for gastrointestinal applications. A swallowable video imaging device, such as a capsule, can be used with a light filter for in vivo illumination of a target tissue that has absorbed a previously administered biological probe. The target tissue can be distinguished in images transmitted from the video imaging device. Quantification of the signal intensity of fluorescence can be used to assess how progressed the target tissue may be. The target tissue can be therapeutically treated to shrink or kill the target tissue.

  • Publication number: 20090215878
Abstract: A variety of zinc finger proteins (ZFPs) and methods utilizing such proteins are provided for use in treating chronic pain. ZFPs that bind to a target site in genes that are aberrantly expressed in subjects having chronic pain are described. In addition, ZFPs that bind to a target site in genes expressed at normal levels in subjects experiencing chronic pain, modulation of whose expression results in decreased pain perception, are also provided. For example, genes that are over-expressed in the dorsal root ganglia (DRG) of pain patients (e.g., Nav1.8) can be repressed.

  • Publication number: 20080031506
Abstract: A method of characterizing a mass within a digital mammogram. A region of interest is identified that includes the mass and surrounding tissue. A border outline of the mass is identified. A rectangular image is formed wherein each column of the image is formed by repetition of steps. A vector is employed for each of a set of ray angles, wherein the vector extends from a central point of the mass and intersects the border outline at an intersection point. A starting pixel along the vector is identified, between the intersection point and the central point, at a first distance before the intersection point. An ending pixel along the vector is identified at a second distance beyond the intersection point. Pixels along the vector, from the starting pixel to the ending pixel, are remapped as the respective column in the rectangular image. Texture features are extracted from the formed rectangular image.
