  • Publication number: 20080137563
Abstract: Offsets in the transmit clock in a wireless communication system are corrected by using data distributed over many frequencies. In the time domain the system uses separate copies of the same signal transmitted with a known spacing in terms of transmit clock signals. The variation of timing between the received signals yields an initial estimate that then is used in a closed loop tracking arrangement to yield and compensate for unpredictable rate changes caused by, for example, jitter, Doppler or thermal drift. The frequency offset for one channel can then be used to calculate the offset for other channels.

  • Publication number: 20080130801
Abstract: A system and method are provided for automatic gain control (AGC) using an adaptive reference and a threshold. An adaptive reference allows for adjusting the target power based on variations in operating parameters and conditions, such as a change to a modulation schemes which requires a different signal to noise ratio (SNR) to maintain performance. A gain adjustment threshold allows for rapid AGC response while reducing the potential effects of hysteresis. AGC levels may be changed during symbol prefixes or suffixes, and avoided during a data portion of a signal. Embodiments allow for symbol-by symbol AGC changes in OFDM, OFDMA, and TDD systems.

  • Publication number: 20070178112
Abstract: A recombinant fusion protein comprising a human erythropoietin peptide portion linked to an immunoglobulin peptide portion is described. The fusion protein has a prolonged half-life in vivo in comparison to naturally occurring or recombinant native human erythropoietin. In one embodiment of the invention, the protein has a half-life in vivo at least three fold higher than native human erythropoietin. The fusion protein also exhibits enhanced erythropoietic bioactivity in comparison to native human erythropoietin. In one embodiment, the fusion protein comprises the complete peptide sequence of a human erythropoietin (EPO) molecule and the peptide sequence of an Fc fragment of human immunoglobulin IgG1. The Fc fragment in the fusion protein includes the hinge region, CH2 and CH3 domains of human immunoglobulin IgG1. The EPO molecule may be linked directly to the Fc fragment to avoid extraneous peptide linkers and lessen the risk of an immunogenic response when administered in vivo.

  • Publication number: 20070147683
Abstract: Methods, mediums and systems recognizing a face by extracting features from a facial image. According to the method recognizing the face, multiple subimages of a query facial image and one or more target facial images are generated, Fourier transforms on the multiple subimages are performed, and Fourier features from the multiple subimages are extracted using the Fourier-transformed multiple subimages. A similarity between the Fourier features of the query facial image and the one or more target facial images is measured, and similarities with respect to a plurality of target facial images are calculated. An image having a maximum similarity to the query facial image from the one or more target facial images is selected.

  • Publication number: 20070112699
Abstract: A image verification method, medium, and apparatus using a local binary pattern (LBP) discriminant technique. The verification method includes generating a kernel fisher discriminant analysis (KFDA) basis vector by using the LBP feature of an input image, obtaining a Chi square inner product by using the LBP feature of an image registered in advance and a kernel LBP feature and projecting to a KFDA basis vector, obtaining a Chi square inner product by using the LBP feature of a query image and a kernel LBP feature and projecting to a KFDA basis vector, and obtaining the similarity degree of the target image and the query image that are obtained as Chi square inner product results, and projected to the KFDA basis vector. According to the method, medium, and apparatus, the KFDA based LBP shows superior performance over conventional LBP, KFDA, and biometric experimentation environment (BEE) baseline algorithms.

  • Publication number: 20040088241
Abstract: The present invention provides a “Keyword Automated Bidding System” which, among other things, provides an intelligent system for bidders for a ranking in web search results list to determine bids and bidding strategies that maximize return on bid investments and help direct allocation of available funds for bids to keywords that lead to more optimal returns. In one possible embodiment, the present invention is designed to generate a scalable solution to the problem of selecting the proper set of keywords to bid and the proper values of such bids for thousands of keywords on third party sites such as Overture and Google.com. The satisficed solution is generated according to operator-defined model constraints and utility functions. In one embodiment, KABS maximizes profit by maximizing the Margin Rate to a bidder which is the difference in the aggregate Revenue per Redirect (RPR) from the merchants and the Cost per Click (CPC) we must pay the traffic source.
