  • Patent number: 6395918
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of converting a hydroxy group in alcohols containing an electron withdrawing group into perfluoroalkane sulfonate and fluorosulfonate esters, which are good leaving groups, with inversion of configuration where the hydroxyl-bearing carbon is chiral. The method consists of converting an alcohol to an O—N,N-dialkylsulfamate ester and reacting it with a perfluoroalkansulfonic or fluorosulfonic acid. The method has applications in the synthesis of pharmaceutical and agrochemical compounds.

  • Publication number: 20010052846
Abstract: A mobile telephone includes a control device, which comprises a receiver to receive an enabling signal and a controller to enable operation of the mobile telephone in dependence upon the enabling signal. An active badge transmits the enabling signal. If the telephone and the badge are separated and the mobile telephone is no longer able to receive the enabling signal, then the controller disables the mobile telephone.

  • Patent number: 6180729
Abstract: In a continuous gas-phase polymerization process for preparing ethylene and propene homopolymers and copolymers, in which ethylene, propene or a mixture of ethylene or propene and C3-C8-&agr;-monoolefins is polymerized in the polymerization zone of a gas-phase polymerization reactor at from 30 to 125° C. and a pressure of from 1 to 100 bar in the gas phase in a bed of finely divided polymer in the presence of a catalyst, where the reactor gas is circulated to remove the heat of polymerization, polymer deposits in the circulating gas line are prevented by metering a catalyst poison having a boiling point above the maximum temperature within the circulating gas line into this circulating gas line in at most such an amount that it does not significantly impair the productivity of the catalyst in the reactor.

  • Patent number: 5752327
Abstract: Particle fluidization method in which particles are swirled up by a flow of a fluidizing gas to form a fluidized bed and pressure measurements are performed in or along the fluidized bed, and in which a parameter for the distribution of the measured values from these pressure measurements is determined and is used as a basis for regulating the flow rate of the stream of fluidizing gas.

  • Patent number: 4127256
Abstract: A flame-cutting apparatus comprising a burner guided for movement around a rotating pipe to travel along a curved path along the surface of the pipe corresponding to the line of intersection of two pipes. The burner is pivotably supported on a guide for movement about an axis perpendicular to the axis of the jet flame of the burner. A template corresponding to a chamfer to be produced in the surface of the element being cut by the jet flame includes two parts, one being pivotable with respect to the other about an axis common to both parts. A scanner rotates at an angular velocity corresponding to the angular velocity of rotation of the pipe being cut and the template is resiliently urged against the scanner to be axially displaced thereby and to transmit such displacement through a mechanism to effect pivotal movement of the burner to produce the desired chamfer of the cut edge of the pipe.

  • Patent number: 4082779
Abstract: This invention relates to a novel carbamoylation method for the preparation of steroid phenolic N-disubstituted carbamate esters, and novel compounds in said method. Phenolic carbamate esters are useful for various purposes, for instance as pharmaceuticals, e.g. antitumor agents, as biocides, e.g. pesticides, and intermediates for preparing such useful compounds.

  • Patent number: 4058059
Abstract: An improved mechanism for cleaning the driven roller in a printing press is described. In the mechanism, a wash cloth may be fed from a magazine roller over a pressure roller to a take-up roller. The pressure roller may be brought to bear against the surface of the cylinder with the wash cloth therebetween. The wash cloth is wet by spraying cleaning fluid thereon immediately prior to its encountering the pressure roller. The wet wash cloth is thus brought into contact with the surface of the cylinder which is then rotated against the cloth to cleanse the surface. After the surface is clean, dry cloth may be brought into contact with the cylinder by merely not activating the fluid spray. Means are provided for driving the pressure roller through a constant angle at each change of the cloth and, via a slip clutch, for maintaining a consistent tension on the cloth regardless of the length of cloth collected on the take-up roller.

  • Patent number: 3988527
Abstract: A wall lead-through structure for live feeders, particularly for use in antenna matching systems. The feeder is led through a wall opening which is covered on its outer side by an insulating mounting fixture which provides a centrally located opening for the feeder lead-through. The surface defining the wall opening is covered with a sheet metal lining, preferably sheet copper which serves as a corona protector, and a metallic corona protector encloses and is secured to the live feeder where it passes through the central opening in the insulating mounting fixture.
