Abstract: Polycarbonate having increased end-cap levels is made by adding an end-capping agent to the polycarbonate, preferably after the polycarbonate has reached a number-average molecular weight of about 2,000 to 15,000 Dalton. The end-capping agent has the formula: wherein R1 is a phenyl, phenoxy, benzyl, or benzyloxy and R2 is selected from the group consisting of C1-C30 alkyl, C1-C30 alkoxy, C6-C30 aryl, C6-C30 aryloxy, C7-C30 aralkyl, and C7-C30 aralkyloxy.

Abstract: A process for the catalytic gas-phase oxidation of propene to acrylic acid, in which the reaction gas starting mixture is oxidized, with an increased propene loading, in a first reaction stage, over a first fixed-bed catalyst and then the acrolein-containing product gas mixture of the first reaction stage is oxidized, in a second reaction stage, with an increased acrolein loading, over a second fixed-bed catalyst, the catalyst moldings in both reaction stages having an annular geometry.

Abstract: A process for metal cutting using a water-mixed cutting compound and subsequent cleansing and corrosion protective treatment wherein an oil in water emulsion is used as a cutting compound which contains; (I) an amount emulsifier system consisting of: (a) ethyoxylates/propoxylates of fatty alcohols having 8 to 18 carbon atoms in the alcohol, which contains 2 to 6 ethylene oxide units and 4 to 8 propylene oxide units; (b) fatty alcohols and/or fatty alcohols propoxylates having 12 to 24 carbon atoms in the alcohol and 0 to 3 propylene oxide units and/or distillation residues of such fatty alcohols; In a ratio by weight, a:b=1:0.2 to 0.2:1; and (ii) corrosion inhibitory; and an aqueous solution or suspension is used for cleansing an anti-corrosion treatment which contains the same emulsifier system and the corrosion inhibitors as the cutting compound.

Abstract: A power resistor may be formed as a stacked arrangement of first and second terminal plates positioned on either side of a resistor plate and insulated therefrom by interposing first and second insulator plates. Preferably, the insulator plates are metallic plates with non-conductive surfaces. As an example, anodized aluminum plates may be used. The metallic insulator plates provide good thermal conduction paths between the resistor plate and the opposing terminal plates, allowing efficient heat transfer from the power resistor. Further, with metallic insulators, each layer in the stack may be made of metal with attendant structural advantages. For example, the stacked resistor may be subjected to significant compressive force in mounting without need for special precautions or load distribution measures, as might be required with ceramic insulating layers. Preferably, the stack includes interlayer features allowing it to be frictionally fitted together, thus simplifying assembly.

Abstract: A radial piston pump used for producing high fuel pressure in fuel systems of internal combustion engines, in particular in a common rail injection system includes a housing with at least one cylinder and a drive shaft is supported in the housing and having at least one cam section. A stroke ring is disposed encompassing the cam section a piston contained in each cylinder is supported against the stroke ring. A possibility for adjusting the delivery quantity of the radial piston pump is achieved in that an adjusting ring is disposed between the cam section and the stroke ring and the internal opening of this adjusting ring is eccentric in relation to the outer contour and can be rotated around the central axis of the internal opening into a desired angular position in relation to the cam section.

Abstract: A feed pump designed as a side-channel or peripheral pump has two rings of guide vanes arranged in an impeller and concentrically enclosing one another. The sides of the guide vanes facing the intended direction of rotation of the impeller are inclined at an angle relative to the axis of rotation of the impeller. The angles of the guide vanes in a radially outer ring of guide vanes are larger than the angles of guide vanes in a radially inner ring of guide vanes. This arrangement allows the impeller to be produced in an injection mold in an especially cost-effective manner.

Abstract: A valve system for the discharge of a flowable substance from a pressure-tight container by a fluid propellant. The valve has a stem with a central bore for the discharge of the fluid. The stem has a second passage open to the free end of the stem and adapted to be brought into communication with a portion of the air-tight container. To this purpose the stem has a transverse bore which can be connected with the interior of the container through an opening of the housing if the stem is in the opened position. In the closed portion of the stem the transverse bore is closed by an annular seal, preferably by the seal between the dome portion of the valve cup and the valve housing. By this measure the fluid to be discharged can be discharged concurrently with gas or another propellant. This joint discharge can also be used for a mixing up of the fluids.

Abstract: A pharmaceutical composition, method and apparatus for treatment, diagnosis or both treatment and treatment of hyperproliferative malignant and non-malignant diseases of epithelial tissues is disclosed. The invention comprises local application of the pharmaceutical composition to a predetermined area of the tissue characterized by complete and consistent coverage of the tissue, including irregularly shaped tissue. The pharmaceutical composition consists of an active component, such as a photosensitizer or a precursor thereof, and at least one carrier substance including a viscous fluid, a gel, or a fluid that becomes viscous upon contact with the tissue. The gel's viscosity allows it to adhere to the tissue for a sufficient amount of time to transfer the photosensitizer or precursor. In a preferred embodiment the pharmaceutical composition is sprayed onto the surface of the diseased tissue.
