  • Publication number: 20040182179
Abstract: A flexure pivot in the form of a thin material connection formed as a result of adjacent material-free spaces is disclosed, as is a force-transfer mechanism for use in a force-measuring device, in particular a balance, containing at least one flexure pivot of the aforementioned type. The force-transfer mechanism has a stationary portion with a lever arrangement comprising at least one reduction lever and serving to transmit a force to a measuring transducer, and it further has at least one coupling element serving to introduce an input force into the lever arrangement, the coupling element being stiff against lengthwise deformation but flexible with regard to bending and having at least one thin material connection. The at least one lever is supported on the stationary portion and/or on a preceding lever by a flexible fulcrum pivot having a thin material connection.

  • Publication number: 20030115976
Abstract: An electronic balance with a housing (1) that can be put under an above-ambient pressure, for example for the purpose of using the balance in a hazardous environment where a risk of explosion exists, has an inlet (21) for a gas, in particular compressed air. The balance also has a horizontal passage through the housing (1) for a force-transmitting rod member (6) that is coupled to the load-hanger element (12) of the balance. The housing (1) has an opening (9) through which the force-transmitting rod member (6) passes in a substantially horizontal direction without making contact; and the opening (9) also forms an outlet for the gas.

  • Patent number: 6374682
Abstract: A force-measuring apparatus has a stationary part, a load receiver, and two parallel guides connected to the load receiver and attachment areas of the stationary part. The load receiver is restrained by the guides to move parallel to the stationary part. An adjuster device adjusts the attachment areas transverse to the guides. It has an arm extending parallel to the guides that can pivot about a pivotal axis on the stationary part. An adjusting member acts on an adjustment area of the arm. The attachment area is located on the arm between the adjustment area and the pivotal axis. The distance from the adjustment area to the attachment area is at least as long as the distance from the attachment area to the pivotal axis. When the adjustment area is adjusted by a given amount, the attachment area is displaced by an amount less than the given amount.

Abstract: A force-measuring apparatus, particularly a weighing cell, has a stationary part 10, a load receiver 60, a measuring transducer 138, and a lever 100 for transmitting a force from the load receiver to the measuring transducer. An improved arrangement is proposed for changing the lever ratio by providing at least two different locations so that the fulcrum pivot flexures can be attached either at positions 112/212 and 118/318 or, alternatively, at positions 114/214 and 116/316 of the lever/stationary part.

  • Patent number: 6354159
Abstract: To protect a force-measuring device from being damaged by an overload, the load receiver (27) has a first part (56) that receives the force to be measured and a second part (57) that transfers the force to a measuring transducer. The two parts, together with two parallel guide members (58, 59) by which they are connected, are portions of a monolithic material block that are separated from each other by a material-free space (55) in the form of a thin linear cut. A pre-tensioned elastic element (78) urging the two parts (56, 57) into spring-loaded engagement is arranged inside a cavity of the second part (57).

  • Patent number: 6326562
Abstract: In a weighing cell a load receiver is constrained in a mode of planar translatory motion in relation to a stationary part (1). The stationary part (1), configured in the shape of a solid H-profile, has two side plates (3) to which the guide links of a parallelogram mechanism are attached. A base plate (2) connects the side plates (3) and supports the parts, that are required for transmitting a force to be measured from the load receiver to a measuring cell. The force-transmitting parts can be configured either as a monolithic material block or as individually assembled components. (FIG.

  • Patent number: 6232567
Abstract: To counteract the adverse effects associated with mounting a parallel-guiding device on a supporting part of a balance, the attachment area (30) is located on a portion (14) of the stationary leg (12) of the parallel-guiding device. Portion 14 projects into the space between the two guide links 3 and 6 by which the load-receiving movable leg (11) of the parallelogram is guided in parallel motion relative to the stationary leg (12).

  • Patent number: 6194672
Abstract: In a balance with a parallel-guided load receiver (5) and a force-reduction mechanism using a series of two levers (18, 30), the input arm (17) of the first lever (18) to which the weight force of the load to be weighed is applied is extended into the space outside of the load receiver (5) and past a force transducer (43) arranged in that space, the end of the extension being equipped with a coupling area (58) for a calibration weight (59). This accomplishes a large lever-reduction of the calibration force in combination with a compact configuration, thus allowing a full-load calibration of the balance to be performed with a relatively small calibration weight (59).

  • Patent number: 5856638
Abstract: Weighing apparatus of the electromagnetic load compensation type includes a thermal conductor for transmitting coil heat from the internal region adjacent the air gap of a permanent magnetic field within which the compensation coil is arranged to a remotely-arranged thermal sensor, thereby to dissipate the coil heat and to modify as a function of internal temperature the compensating current that is supplied to the compensation coil. As a consequence of the dissipation of heat from the air gap, heating of the permanent magnet and its pole member is avoided, thereby, to prevent variation of the intensity of the permanent magnet field.

  • Patent number: 5641948
Abstract: A force measuring apparatus includes a parallelogram guide composed of a fixedly supported parallelogram side member, two parallel guide members which are longitudinally stiff and bending-elastic in the plane of the parallelogram, and an additional parallelogram side member for receiving the force to be measured. The additional parallelogram side member is guided so as to be deflectable in parallel on the fixedly supported parallelogram side member by the guide members. A measuring transformer supplies a signal corresponding to the force to be measured. A device for transmitting at least a portion of the force on the measuring transformer to be measured acting on the deflectably guided parallelogram side member is coupled through the coupling member to the deflectable parallelogram side member.

  • Patent number: 5459289
Abstract: A precision balance includes a load receiving member, a balance housing and a measuring cell connected to the load receiving member and the balance housing. The measuring cell is arranged between side portions of an intermediate support member and is fastened thereto in a frictionally engaging manner. The contact surfaces between the intermediate support member and the measuring cell can be produced with narrow tolerances in a simple manner, so that a screw connection between the intermediate support member and the measuring cell does not introduce significant distorting forces into the measuring cell. The measuring cell can be adjusted with the intermediate support member before being mounted in the balance housing. The later mounting of the measuring cell does not influence the adjustment because the intermediate arrangement of the intermediate support member disconnects the measuring cell from inaccuracies of the fastening surfaces on the housing.

  • Patent number: 5096007
Abstract: A balance with a weighing cell includes a measurement transducer with a short travel distance and a device for protecting the load cell against dynamic and static overload. The protecting device includes a spring mounted in the flux of force between the load application and the load cell and a travel-limiting stop member fixably attached to a housing. A connecting member is inserted in series to the spring in a suspension unit. The connecting member is mounted so as to be biased by the spring against the suspension unit in the direction in which force is introduced and is fastened so as to be raisable from the suspension unit when force is introduced. The connecting member is connected to the transmission lever.
