    Abstract: Waste is burnt in a furnace chamber (1). The oxygen-containing flue gases resulting in this process are introduced into a fluidized bed in an afterburning chamber (5) and reburnt. Solids discharged with the flue gases from the afterburning chamber (5) are separated from the flue gases in a dust separator (9) and recycled to the afterburning chamber (5), so that a circulating fluidized bed is formed, which produces a very homogeneous temperature distribution in the afterburning chamber (5) and at the same time permits highly efficient cooling of the flue gases. A secondary oxygen feed for the afterburning is dispensed with, which enables a decrease in size both of the afterburning chamber (5) and also of the downstream heat-recovery and gas cleaning devices and improvement in efficiency resulting therefrom.

    Abstract: A waste material, particularly refuse, is conveyed through a combustion chamber while simultaneously being mixed and is treated with a gaseous oxidizing agent. The combustion chamber comprises a rotary tubular furnace. The waste material is acted on by the gaseous oxidizing agent, with the volatile combustible constituents of the waste material forming flames with the oxidizing agent. The radiation heat of the flames frees additional volatile constituents of the waste material. The waste material freed of volatile constituents is obtained as refuse coke and the unburnt volatile constituents are obtained as combustible gas. The thermal treatment in the rotary tubular furnace can be continued beyond the freeing of volatile substances. Given an adequate temperature rise, the oxidic constituents of the slag formed are melted, and the latter can be obtained in the form of glass.

    Abstract: Waste material is conveyed in an uncomminuted state on a grate (5) through a combustion chamber (12) of a stationary furnace (10) and at the same time mixed by a thrust and shearing action of the grate (5). A gaseous oxidizing agent is introduced, for example via gas lances, into the combustion chamber (12) from above the layer of waste material (11) lying on the grate (5). The oxidizing agent cooperates with the combustible volatile substances escaping from the waste to form flames. The layer of waste is heated by the thermal radiation of the flames such that degasification occurs. The combustible gases thus freed are partially burnt. The waste material freed from the volatile substances, that is to say refuse coke, and the unburnt volatile substances, that is to say combustible gases, can be used as fuels outside the plant or within the plant. The oxidizing agent does not come into contact with the thermally stressed parts of the plant.

    Abstract: Dustlike and/or finely divided solids which arise in the purification of flue gases, in particular from refuse incineration plants, are subjected to a thermal treatment. In this case, the said solids are fed to a filter device along a predetermined transport path by a gas stream having at least the thermal treatment temperature. After the filtration, the solids can be subjected to a thermal post-treatment. The thermal treatment can serve to destroy halogenated, in particular aromatic, hydrocarbons, to remove ammonia or other volatile constituents.

    Abstract: For reducing nitrogen oxides in the flue gases of a firing plant, fresh ammonia water, i.e. an aqueous solution of ammonia (NH.sub.3), is introduced into the flue gas flow. For achieving a high degree of separation of the nitrogen oxide a superstoichiometric addition of ammonia (NH.sub.3) is necessary. Most of the excess ammonia is washed out in the wet washer (6). A liquor, e.g. milk of lime (Ca(OH).sub.2), is dosed into the wash water in a connecting line (10) to a stripping column (11), so that a pH-value above 9.5 is obtained. The now physically dissolved ammonia (NH.sub.3) is desorbed from the wash water in the stripping column (11). The steam/ammonia mixture passing out of the stripping column (11) is condensed in a condenser (17) and the condensate in the form of ammonia water is admixed to the fresh ammonia water in feed line (3). As a function of the nitrogen oxide reduction, approximately 10 to 50% of the fresh ammonia water can be saved.

    Abstract: Process and apparatus wherein nitrogen oxides NO.sub.x contained in waste gases produced by combustion of fossil fuels in a firing plant are removed by reacting the waste gases with ammonia NH.sub.3 to reduce the nitrogen oxides to elementary nitrogen N.sub.2 ; subjecting the waste gases after being so reacted to wet waste gas cleaning whereby the washing water removes the unreacted ammonia (slip) from the waste gas to produce slip enriched washing water; raising the pH value of the slip enriched washing water to a value of more than 10, introducing air into the pH raised slip enriched washing water to remove the slip from the water and produce an air-slip mixture and recycling the slip into the furnace to react with waste gases to lower the amount of ammonia discharged into the atmosphere.

    Abstract: In a burner, particularly for use in a drum of a combustion furnace or incinerator for flowable, pump-deliverable waste materials, a lance is provided for introducing the fuel and a nozzle is placed on the end thereof. The lance can be surrounded by a first uncooled lining, which essentially comprises two tubular, coaxial jacket parts. The first lining is surrounded by a second lining, which once again comprises two jacket parts. The combustion air for the additional fuels in the incinerator (e.g. barrels, etc.) is introduced into the incinerator between the two linings, while the burner air enters in the vicinity of the nozzle in the first lining between the two jacket parts. Thus, important media for the actual combustion process can be directly introduced to the burning point within the incinerator via the burner.

    Abstract: A rotatable drum is equipped at a front end with a burner for liquid waste materials and at a rear end has a tiltable charging mechanism for solid waste materials and waste materials stored in barrels. The rear end of the drum is sealed by a fixed casing enveloping the charging mechanism. Adjacent that end there is a gas outlet projecting through a dome-like gas inlet connection of a fixed secondary combustion chamber. The drum shell is stepped such that a refractory lining of the semicylindrical lower drum part cooled by means of water spray nozzles is thinner than a refractory brick material of the semicylindrical drum upper part by an amount equal to the depth of the drum step. Due to rotationally reciprocating or rocking movement of the drum, the waste materials undergo pyrolysis, the pyrolysis gases flowing through a gas outlet into the secondary combustion chamber.
