  • Patent number: 8635654
Abstract: A wireless communication system for a vehicle includes a seat or overhead video display unit, a control and audio unit that is associated with and located remotely with respect to the video display unit, a first wireless transceiver associated with the video display unit, a second wireless transceiver associated with the control and audio unit, where the first and second wireless transceivers are linked together for communication. The video display unit receives audiovisual content and splits audio content for transmission to the control unit. The control unit can similarly transmit control and selection information to the video display unit.

  • Publication number: 20090007194
Abstract: A system and method permit remote recovery of audio from audiovisual or multimedia content for a video display unit. Audio is recovered from the audiovisual content sent to a first network address and is packetized for transmission over a network that may utilized an existing wiring infrastructure that provides audio and video-on-demand content to a second network address. The audio packets are reassembled by hardware associated with the second network address and analog audio created from the audio packets is provided at an output to an audio device.

  • Publication number: 20070294732
Abstract: A system for providing on-demand video on an aircraft is described. In various implementations, the system includes a first computer that receives broadcast video content, digital video players distributed within a passenger seating area of the aircraft, and a second computer. The second computer receives the video content from the first computer, and provides the video content, on-demand, to a subset of the digital video players. The system also includes a third computer that receives the video content from the first computer, and provides the video content, on-demand, to another subset of the plurality of digital video players. The first computer may provide the video content to the second and third computers using a multicast protocol. The video content may include a live television broadcast or a television channel that was requested by a user of one or more of the digital video players.

  • Patent number: 5463616
Abstract: Full-duplex, concurrent voice and non-voice communication over the public switched telephone network (PSTN) is maintained by a communication interface apparatus. A voice only connection is established between two sites initially. Concurrent voice/non-voice connection then is established by pressing an engage button on the communication interface apparatus at each site. Voice communication is temporarily lost, while the connection changes from a phone-to-phone voice-only link to an interface-to-interface voice/non-voice data link. The communication interface apparatus includes a digital signal processor for converting and compressing digital voice data into a voice data packet, a modem for maintaining communication over the PSTN and a micro-controller for managing the establishment and maintenance of concurrent voice and non-voice data communication.
