  • Publication number: 20100262373
Abstract: Methods and systems for the detection and localization of microseismic events are proposed which operate in real-time. Hypocenters in three spatial dimensions are provided along with an estimate of the event origin time. Sensor positions may be distributed in 3D space, and are not confined to linear arrays in vertical wells. A location of the event is approximated and a grid search, based on the approximate location of the event, is used to derive a residual function over a finer sampling followed by a gradient search of the residual function to optimize the location of the event.

  • Patent number: 7716579
Abstract: A method, system and computer-readable media for supporting text entry on a personal computing device by activating automated searching to search for completion candidates which are based on a partial text entry received from a user. The completion candidates are displayed in a search list. The user may select a completion candidate from among the completion candidates in the search list to correspondingly modify the partial text entry, or the user may decline all of the completion candidates displayed in the search list and terminate the automated searching. The system may further provide a digital keyboard for use in entering text.

  • Patent number: 7681124
Abstract: In one aspect, the user can rapidly enter and search for text using a data entry system through a combination of entering one or more characters on a digitally displayed keyboard with a pointing device and using a search list to obtain a list of completion candidates. The user can activate the search list to obtain a list of completion candidates at any time while entering a partial text entry with the data entry system. When the search list is active, a list of completion candidates is displayed on a graphical user interface for the user to select from and the user can perform one of several actions. When the user deactivates the search list, the user can continue adding to or modifying the current partial text entry being entered, and may re-invoke the search list to further search for completion candidates based on the modified partial text entry.

  • Publication number: 20090259406
Abstract: A method for the detection and localization of microseismic events is proposed which operates in real-time. It provides hypocenters in three spatial dimensions along with an estimate of the event origin time. Sensor positions may be distributed in 3D space, and are not confined to linear arrays in vertical wells. The method combines and improves two existing approaches. For detection and localization purposes the method makes use of the generalized beam-forming and forward modeling properties defined in the “CMM” algorithm. For location refinement, the method uses a stabilized version of the generalized “Geiger” approach.

  • Publication number: 20090081622
Abstract: A method and system for teaching a tonal language in which the meaning of at least some words depends on the application of one of a plurality of tones. The method includes associating each of the plurality of tones with a hand position, expressing one of the at least some words and applying one of the tones to that word, and simultaneously with expressing the word, asserting a hand position associated with the applied one of the plurality of tones. Alternatively or in combination with the hand position, a color and/or a hand movement may be associated with a tone. The method may be embodied in a recorded medium such as CD or DVD.

  • Publication number: 20090074816
Abstract: The invention provides in part methods of treating cancers of a specific organ or tissue by administering a composition that is antigenically specific for one or more microbes that are pathogenic in the specific organ or tissue in which the cancer is situated. The formulations of the invention thereby facilitate activation of a treatment response to a cancer in a particular tissue or organ. The compositions may for example include killed or attenuated microbial pathogens, and may be administered at sites distant from the cancer, for example the skin. In some embodiments, microbial species of endogenous flora that are known to cause infection in the relevant organ or tissue may be used in the formulation of the antigenic compositions. In alternative embodiments, exogenous microbial pathogens that are known to cause infection in the relevant organ or tissue may be used in the formulation of the antigenic compositions.

  • Patent number: 7293231
Abstract: In one aspect of the invention, the user can rapidly enter and search for text through a combination of entering one or more characters (a partial text entry) on a digitally displayed keyboard with a pointing device and using a search list to display a list of selectable completion candidates based on the partial text entry. The user can select one of the completion candidates in the search list to replace the partial text entry which the user is currently entering. Alternatively, the user can select a completion candidate to be the basis of a search for a refined list of completion candidates. The user can also deactivate the interactive search list, and immediately continue adding to or modifying the current partial text entry, and may re-invoke the search list to further search for completion candidates based on the modified partial text entry.

  • Publication number: 20040021691
Abstract: In one aspect of the present invention a user can rapidly enter and search for data, such as text, using a data entry system by entering one or more characters on a digital keyboard with a pointing device. With the digital keyboard the user can create words, phrases and other character sequences. As the user enters a character sequence, a mechanism for character prediction visually informs the user of which set of characters on the digital keyboard are most likely to have the character that the user wishes to next enter as part of the text. In another aspect of the present invention, as the user forms a character sequence (partial text entry), the character sequence is used to search a dictionary for a set of completion candidates that begin with the character sequence. The data entry system retrieves completion candidates from the dictionary by determining which completion candidates in the dictionary are more likely to be the ones that the user is attempting to type.

  • Patent number: 6504051
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved process for the continuous production of aromatic carboxylic acids by the liquid-phase oxidation of an alkyl aromatic compound with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of oxidation catalyst which results in reduced wastewater generation, reduced condensing capacity requirements, and, optionally, increased power recovery, and. The process effectively utilizes the heat of reaction in the process of removing excess water generated from the reaction and minimizes the loss of solvent used as the carrier for the reaction catalyst by removing reactor off-gas directly into a water removal column for distillation. A portion of the overhead aqueous vapors are removed from the top of the water removal column as a vapor distillate, with the remaining overhead aqueous vapors being condensed then subsequently refluxed to the fractionating zone of the water removal column.

  • Patent number: 6292501
Abstract: A laser diode system comprising a voltage source, an inductor connected to the output of the voltage source, an integrator circuit connected in series with the inductor, and a laser diode. The integrator circuit filters out noise from the voltage source, and includes a first resistor, an amplifier, a second resistor, and first and second capacitors. The second capacitor has one lead connected to the input lead of the inductors and the other lead attached to the input of the first resistor. The output lead of the first resistor is connected to the negative input lead of the amplifier, and to the input lead of the first capacitor. The positive input lead of amplifier OP is connected to the output of the inductor (and the anode of the laser diode). The outputs of amplifier and the first capacitor are connected to the input of the second resistor, which has an output connected to the anode of the laser diode. The cathode of laser diode is tied to circuit common.

  • Patent number: 6181997
Abstract: A vehicle suspension system is responsive to an active brake signal from a brake system indicating the application of a greater braking force to one front corner brake than to the other front corner brake to affect vehicle yaw rate. The vehicle suspension system determines the relative velocities of the front corner suspension adjacent the front corner brake receiving the greater braking force and the diagonally opposed rear corner suspension and further determines a compression damping command for the front corner suspension and a rebound damping command for the rear corner suspension. While the active brake signal is present, the suspension control applies the compression damping command for the front corner suspension when its relative velocity indicates that it is in compression. While the active brake signal is present, the suspension control also applies the rebound damping command for the rear corner suspension when its relative indicates that it is in rebound.

  • Patent number: 5836557
Abstract: The invention is a utility tray assembly that is capable of being mounted on a support member of a ladder, such as a shelf or a step. The assembly includes a tray having parallel side walls, parallel end walls disposed normal to the side walls, and a bottom defining a plane and disposed normal to the side walls and the end walls. The end walls have slots therein extending in a direction parallel to the plane of the bottom. The assembly further includes a strap having a body portion and opposing end portions. Each of the end portions includes a slot extending in a direction parallel with the longitudinal axis of the strap. A fastener is associated with each end wall and is insertable through the slots in the end wall and the strap for securing the end portions of the strap to the tray end walls in such a manner that the support member of the ladder is captured between the body portion of the strap and the undersurface of the tray bottom.
