Abstract: 3-Carboxyisocoumarins, 2-thiaisocoumarins and related isocarbostyrils are useful anti-allergic agents. Several of these compounds are novel, and a process for their preparation is provided.

Abstract: Compounds of the formula ##STR1## and pharmaceutically acceptable, nontoxic salts thereof or hydrates thereof, wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are each hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy, or any two of the groups R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4, taken together with the carbon atoms to which they are joined complete a substituted or unsubstituted carbocyclic ring, and X is an oxygen atom, provided that R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are not all simultaneously hydrogen, are useful for treating allergic conditions in humans.The compounds may be prepared by reacting a suitably substituted benzene derivative with an activated carbonyl group having a carbanion of the formula NC-CH-R, wherein R is a carboxylic acid ester group, and thereafter, if desired, converting the compound into a salt.

Abstract: Mixtures of curable neutral and acid-catalyzed phenol-aldehyde resins and portland cement have been found to provide fast-curing, durable adhesive bonds for wood, masonry, and the like which for many applications are of improved strength as compared to those obtained with known bonding agents. Of particular interest are the compositions where the resin is an arylamine-modified phenol-formaldehyde resin.

Abstract: Described herein are hydrophilic resin products having particular utility in rapid curing adhesives for wood and other materials. Processes for producing these resins and hydrophilic adhesives produced therefrom are also described. The resins are prepared by reacting an aldehyde condensation polymer, such as a phenol-formaldehyde condensation polymer, with a strong mineral acid salt, i.e., a hydrochloric, nitric, or sulfuric acid salt, of m-hydroxy aniline, 2,6-diaminopyridine or 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane. When these resins are blended with an appropriate curing agent, such as an aldehyde, the resulting adhesives cure very rapidly at ambient temperatures. While uncured, these adhesives are hydrophilic and thus water washable, but when cured, they are insoluble in water and common organic solvents.

Abstract: N,N'-diglycidyl-N,N'-dialkyl aryl disulfonamides are prepared having an epoxy equivalent weight range from about 234 to about 1100. These polyepoxides are useful to make coated articles having superior solvent resistance and impact resistance when cured with conventional epoxy curing agents.
