Abstract: A process for the preparation of N-acylglycine derivatives of the formula (I) ##STR1## which comprises reacting a carboxylic acid amide with an aldehyde in the presence of a solvent and an acid to give an acylaminomethylol and then carbonylating the acylaminomethylol in the presence of a cobalt carbonyl catalyst.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of alternating copolymers from unsaturated polar compounds and olefins in the presence of complexing agents, in which the complexing agent comprising the primarily formed copolymer/metal compound complex can be recovered in a simple manner and in reusable form.The copolymerization is carried out in the presence of salts, such as nitrates, but preferably halides, of divalent metal ions as the complexing agent in organic solvents at pressures of up to about 100 bar and at temperatures between -78.degree. C. and 100.degree. C. with the use of free-radical initiators.The reaction product is a mixture of the copolymer of a strictly alternating structure of unsaturated polar compounds and olefin, and of a copolymer which is higher in the unsaturated polar compound. The alternating copolymer can be easily separated therefrom by extraction with solvents, such as trichloromethane or acetone.

Abstract: Process for the preparation of an aromatic polyether in the presence of finely divided condensation auxiliaries.The process for the preparation of an aromatic polyether by condensation of the reactants in the presence of carbonates of metals of Group I of the Periodic Table, as condensation auxiliaries, employs the metal carbonates sodium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate or mixtures thereof in the form of very finely ground salts.The fine particle size distribution of the carbonate allows a significant shortening of the reaction times and permits polyethers having a defined degree of condensation to be reproducibly prepared.

Abstract: The invention is directed to an exhaust gas muffler for a two-cycle engine, especially for a handheld portable tool, such as a chain saw. In exhaust gas mufflers equipped with a catalyzer, the formation of flame from the fuel-containing exhaust gases exiting from the muffler must be prevented. These exhaust gases are intensely overheated because of the exothermal process in the catalyzer. The muffler according to the invention includes a catalyzer which establishes a connection between separate component chambers of the muffler housing. The muffler can be mounted directly on the motor outlet.

Abstract: The invention is directed to an arrangement for heating the intake air of the carburetor of the engine of a handheld portable tool such as a chain saw. The fresh air entering the air intake line is quickly and adequately heated and directed to the carburetor as intake air without the danger of this intake air becoming entrained with dirt particles. In the arrangement according to the invention, the handheld portable tool can be operated at low temperatures without disturbances in the carburetor system such as freezing of the throttle flap or the main nozzle. The air intake line is lead through the muffler which is configured as a collection chamber for the exhaust gas. The heat of the hot exhaust gases passing through the muffler is transferred to the fresh air entering and passing through the intake line.

Abstract: There are disclosed and claimed novel polyamides having improved properties such as high transparency and second order transition temperatures in combination with good mechanical and electrical properties at relatively high temperatures. These polyamides are derived from bis-aminomethyl-norbornanes and aliphatic or cycloaliphatic or aromatic or aromatic-aliphatic diamines, aliphatic or aromatic dicarboxylic acids, and amino carboxylic acids.
