  • Patent number: 7982804
Abstract: Image quality adjustment of an inputted image signal is performed with higher accuracy to display a more preferable image to the user. An attribute information determining unit obtains first attribute information indicating the format of the inputted image signal and second attribute information indicating transmission characteristics of the image signal. An image quality adjustment value calculating unit calculates optimal image quality adjustment values for the image signal from the obtained first and second attribute information. An image processing unit adjusts the image quality of the image signal based on the optimal image quality adjustment values and then outputs the image to an image display. The second attribute information includes the bit rate, resolution, and frame rate of the image signal.

  • Patent number: 7916214
Abstract: A picture display technique carries out an adjustment of image quality of an inputted picture signal in response to a type of the inputted picture signal, e.g., a type of a first picture signal into which a second picture signal, having fewer scanning lines than that of the first picture signal, is converted, and an original type of the first picture signal, and then displays a picture of an adjusted picture signal on a display device. Further, the adjustment of the picture quality may include at least one of hue correction of the inputted picture signal in a certain hue range and chroma correction of the inputted picture signal in a certain chroma range. • Publication number: 20100091186
Abstract: A flame rate is up-converted two times by an STB (Set-Top Box) and a display apparatus which have a frame rate conversion function respectively. Thereby, the flame rate is converted to approximately ā€œnā€ times higher frame rate which is a driving frequency of a display device used in a display apparatus. The display apparatus and the STB respectively have an image quality correcting circuit and an OSD (On-Screen Display) circuit which are selected to be used and displayed according to the display apparatus connected. In such configurations, the STB can be commonly utilized with respect to various sorts of display apparatuses having a liquid crystal display panel, a PDP (Plasma Display Panel), and other types of display panels.

  • Patent number: 7333081
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide an image display technology with which high contrast can be stably obtained. In order to achieve the above object, the present invention changes the gain of a digital luminance signal by feeding back information on maximum and average luminance levels of the luminance signal, adjusts image contrast, and in accordance with the average luminance level detected from the feedback system, controls the illuminance of the backlight applied to a display unit. The control increases the illuminance of the backlight when the detected average luminance level is higher than the upper-limit value of a previously set reference range, and reduces the illuminance when the detected average luminance level is lower than the lower-limit value of the reference range.
