  • Patent number: 11466551
Abstract: A downhole tool assembly for completing or cleaning a wellbore. The downhole tool assembly may include a perforation gun sub and a laser assembly sub. The perforation gun sub may be used to propagate a shockwave through one or more pre-existing perforations in a formation. The laser assembly sub may be used for treating perforations, e.g. treating the one or more pre-existing perforations. Depending on the parameters of the operation, the treating of the perforations may comprise changing the shape of the perforations and/or making the perforations wider, deeper, or otherwise adjusted.

  • Patent number: 9328606
Abstract: A method of logging a perforation tunnel and associated features of the perforation tunnel can include the following features. A logging device including an ultrasonic transducer is located downhole into a well. The well has a casing. The ultrasonic transducer has a focal point that is a distance from the ultrasonic transducer so as to be behind the inner face of the casing. An ultrasonic signal is projected from the ultrasonic transducer. A reflection of the ultrasonic signal is reflected from an internal portion of the perforation tunnel, the perforation tunnel extending through the casing and into formation. A transit time is measured between transmission and reception of the ultrasonic signal. A position of the ultrasonic transducer corresponding to the ultrasonic transmission and reception of the reflected signal is determined.

  • Patent number: 8950487
Abstract: An assembly for minimizing damaging effects of pressure waves on devices in a wellbore. The assembly comprises a dynamic device disposed in the wellbore and generating pressure waves during actuation; a barrier device disposed in the wellbore and presenting an obstacle to the pressure waves generated by the dynamic device; and an occlusion disposed in the wellbore between the dynamic device and the barrier device which reduces the damaging effects of the pressure waves on the barrier device.

  • Patent number: 8726996
Abstract: A downhole tool assembly for use in a wellbore includes a tubular body carrying an explosive which is selectively detonated to create a dynamic underbalance or overbalance effect in the wellbore. The tubular body has opposite ends provided with plug assemblies including plug elements movable between a normally collapsed state and an actuable expanded state. The plug elements are adapted to be actuated to the expanded state between the tubular body and an outer extent of the wellbore before the creation of the dynamic underbalance or overbalance effect to isolate a discrete segment of the wellbore to which the dynamic underbalance or overbalance effect is confined.

  • Patent number: 8424606
Abstract: A perforating system having a perforating gun with a tubular gun housing defining an inner volume and extending in an axial direction. A shaped charge is held in a loading tube. The loading tube is located in the gun housing. The loading tube extends along the axial direction. The shaped charge faces in a firing direction substantially perpendicular to the axial direction. A portion of the gun housing adjacent to the shaped charge in the firing direction is a perforating portion for removal upon firing of the shaped charge. An eccentralizer member extends from the perforating gun in a second direction that is substantially opposite and parallel with the firing direction. A first retainer part extends from an outer surface of the gun housing adjacent to the perforating portion. A second retainer part extends from the outside of the gun housing adjacent to the perforating portion.

  • Patent number: 6749903
Abstract: An apparatus for irradiating an article, particularly a multi-layer article, with electron beam radiation is provided. The apparatus contains a window having a short unit path length and allows for controlled irradiation of an article such that upper portions of the article receive significantly higher electron beam dosages than lower portions of the article. Such differential dosage allows for modification of an article comprising a coating composition that can be modified by electron beam irradiation on a substrate that is vulnerable to degradation from electron beam radiation. A method of irradiating an article with electron beams, and products manufactured using the apparatus and method of the invention, are also disclosed.
