  • Patent number: 7885208
Abstract: A mechanism for providing a connection from an IP-based network to a circuit-switched network, such as a GSM network is disclosed. A temporary routing number for the circuit-switched network, such as an E.164 number, is delivered to a user terminal, and a circuit-switched call leg is established from the user terminal to the IP-based network using the routing number. Thereby, IMS-services are provided for end users which are located in the radio access network not having sufficient QoS required for voice over IP. In the example of a conference call service, a request for a conference call may forwarded via a data channel or data path to an application server which provides that conference call service. The application server then selects a conference routing number and returns the routing number to the conference host terminal via the data channel. Using the received conference routing number, the conference host terminal can then set up a circuit-switched connection as a call leg of the conference call.

  • Patent number: 7394807
Abstract: A method and a communication system which includes a first network element, e.g. portable terminal, connectable to a second network element. One of selectable modes is used for communication. A network element is adapted to perform a mode selection procedure for selecting the same mode for bidirectional communication between the network elements. The mode selection ensures the use of one and the same mode in uplink and downlink direction and thus enables e.g. IP telephony in UMTS using SIP protocol. The invention provides for facilitating a VoIP communication session by way of a radio link with a mobile station. The mobile station forms a QoS (Quality of Service) information element for communication to a radio access network portion. The QoS information element is indicating whether to remove packet header information of the data packets to be communicated upon the radio link pursuant to the communication session.

  • Patent number: 7231046
Abstract: The present invention is a novel and improved method for managing in a single location the ciphering keys and algorithms used for encrypting or ciphering the communications of a specific mobile station with multiple core networks or core network entities. Further another aspect of the invention is that the management location is movable as the mobile station moves within the radio access network.

  • Patent number: 7103363
Abstract: For control of connections in cellular telecommunication systems, particularly setting up and releasing of connections, it is checked whether a radio resource control (RRC) connection is already active during setting up of anew mobility management (MM) connection. If an RRC connection is already active, explicit signaling is used. Otherwise, RRC level events can be used to implicitly control MM level events. During releasing of MM connections, it is checked if another MM protocol uses RRC connections, and if that is the case, the releasing of MM connections is signaled explicitly.

  • Patent number: 6898433
Abstract: A method for indicating a mobile station's (MS) location. A first radio network controller, RNC, acts as the mobile station's serving RNC (SRNC), for reporting the mobile station's location to the core network (CN). A second RNC acts as the mobile station's drift RNC (DRNC), for maintaining a radio connection with the mobile station. In response to fulfillment of at least one criterion in a first set of criteria, the mobile station (MS) sends location information about its location to the second RNC (DRNC) which forwards the location information to the first RNC (SRNC) for reporting to the core network (CN). There is also a second set of criteria for transforming the location information. In response to fulfillment of at least one criterion in the second set, the first RNC (SRNC) sends falsified information about the mobile station's location to the core network (CN).

  • Publication number: 20040219938
Abstract: A method provides a first network element (22) or a user equipment of a radio access system with a current value of at least one parameter (TS) during a change of access of the user equipment (20) from another network element (21) of a radio access system to the first network element (22). The parameter is required for creating headers for packets in which data of user equipment is transmitted. In order to guarantee continuous parameter values without jumps, the current parameter values (TS) are transmitted from the other network element (21), which knows the current parameter value, to the first network element (22) or to the user equipment, and that in addition, the network element (22) or the user equipment are synchronized to the other network element (21). The network element (22) or the user equipment then corrects the received parameter value (TS) based on the synchronization.

  • Patent number: 6792277
Abstract: Implementing control signallings in a telecommunication system comprising at least one terminal and one telecommunication network, the telecommunication network comprising at least one access network and one or more core networks. Within a certain time, the terminal determines the detected control signalling needs and transmits a request for maintaining a radio connection to the telecommunication network if several control signallings are to be carried out. The control signallings are carried out successively between the terminal and one or more core networks without releasing the radio connection between the terminal and the access network.

  • Patent number: 6771964
Abstract: A method and a wireless telecommunication system of performing network-assisted handover of calls between a serving network and another wireless network that employs communication protocols different from those of the serving network. A message is sent from a mobile station of a user to the serving wireless network, which includes an indication that the mobile station is capable of communicating with the neighboring wireless network. Information relating to the communication characteristics of the neighboring wireless network is also sent from the serving wireless network to the mobile station. Using the information relating to the communication characteristics of the neighboring wireless network, the mobile station receives radio signals from the neighboring wireless network. The quality of the radio signals between the mobile station and the neighboring wireless network is measured.

  • Patent number: 6745029
Abstract: A method and arrangement for implementing the acquisition of data relating to network-specific supplementary services and a method for updating subscriber data relating to network-specific supplementary services in a telecommunications system. The subscriber data relating to the network-specific supplementary services is permanently stored in a subscriber identity module (12) of a user terminal. The user terminal (11) is arranged, at least when registering in a visited network (30), to automatically transmit the subscriber data relating to the supplementary services of the visited network (30) for temporary storage to the subscriber database (34) of the visited network (30).

  • Publication number: 20040100913
Abstract: The invention relates to methods for providing parameter values required at different locations of a cellular communications system for packet header creation, to cellular communications systems and to their components. In order to enable a supply of continuous values for said parameters after a change of access of a user equipment from one network element to another, it is proposed that the parameter is either continuously stored and/or generated in the user equipment throughout a connection or transmitted from a first network element to the user equipment when the access of the user equipment is changed from the first to a second network element. On the other hand, it is proposed that the user equipment transmits said parameter to a network element to which it changes or that the network element to which the user equipment was connected transmits said parameter to the network element to which the user equipment changes.

  • Patent number: 6741860
Abstract: The invention concerns control of connections in cellular telecommunication systems, particularly setting up and releasing of connections. According to the invention, during setting up of a new MM connection it is checked whether an RRC connection is already active. If an RRC connection is already active, explicit signalling is used. Otherwise, RRC level events can be used to implicity control MM level events. During releasing of MM connections, it is checked if another MM protocol uses RRC connections, and if that is the case, the releasing of MM connections is signalled explicitly.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of setting up conference calling in a communications system. In the method, at least one subscriber group having two or more subscribers is established in a server connected to the communications system; subscribers registered in the set up group chat with each other by messages in such a manner that the server in the communications system receives a message of a subscriber participating in the message chat and transmits it on to other subscribers belonging to the group in question. In the method, it is also possible to move from message chatting to conference calling by one of the subscribers in the subscriber group sending a pre-defined message to the server, which message acts as a signal to the server to move to conference calling; the server sets up a conference call between the subscribers registered as active in the subscriber group in response to receiving said pre-defined message.
