  • Publication number: 20030196536
Abstract: A glass-cutting saw blade has an elongated body adapted to move transversely to a cutting direction and having a short leading edge extending transversely to the direction, a pair of long sides extending generally parallel to the direction back from ends of the leading edge, and a short trailing edge extending transversely to the direction and bridging rear ends of the sides. A grit coating is provided both on the leading edge and on the trailing edge. The grit coatings extend partially from the respective edges onto adjacent portions of the sides. In addition the body is of rectangular section. Such a blade can be a standard jig- or reciprocating-saw blade, or can be continuous and formed as a band-saw blade.

  • Publication number: 20030146171
Abstract: This invention comprises a method and an apparatus for separating solids from fluids in fluids containing high total suspended solids and where the solids are of a broad particle size including ultra fine particles. A fluid volume is passed through a filter element thereby separating the solids from the liquid. The solids deposited on and in the filter element are cleaned from the filter element by a continuous backwashing process using pressurized filtered fluid in excess of the fluid pressure of the fluid on the intake side of the filter. The rate at which backwashing occurs and the pressure of the pressurized filtered fluid used in backwashing is increased when the pressure differential between the intake and outlet volumes increases.

  • Patent number: 5866974
Abstract: An electron beam generator includes: an electron emitting cathode (1); an anode (3) with an anode bore (4) for the passage of an electron beam (6); a Wehnelt electrode (2) between the cathode (1) and the anode (3) for controlling the electron beam; the cathode (1); the anode (3) and the Wehnelt electrode (2) disposed within a vacuum chamber (100); and a magnetic unit (7) disposed between the cathode (1) and the anode (3) for generating a static transverse magnetic field causing the electrons to be deflected along a curved path until the electrons enter the anode (3) such that ions follow an ionic path back to strike the Wehnelt electrode (2) and are kept from striking the cathode (1) by displacement caused by the ionic path. The present invention reduces the number of ions that impact the cathode and reduces the number of ions that are formed by the ionization of residual molecules, increasing the service life of the cathode.

  • Patent number: 5616071
Abstract: A bevel grinder for an edge of a sheet workpiece of predetermined thickness has a generally planar support on which the workpiece lies, a head having a frustoconical grinding surface centered on an axis substantially perpendicular to the support and rotatable about the axis, and a drive connected to the head for rotating same about the axis with the surface engaging the sheet at the edge and for relatively displacing the head and workpiece. Thus the head moves along the edge so that a bevel is ground in the edge. A spacer on the head projects axially therefrom toward the support and has an axial dimension smaller than the workpiece thickness.

  • Patent number: 5080845
Abstract: The removal of impurities, for example monomeric low-molecular substances, solvents or the like, from polymeric synthetic plastics materials takes place by the admixture of extraction gas in a first extruder in a supercritical state. The mixture is transferred to a second extruder where, in a first separating zone, and by a counter-current method, it is cleansed of the major part of the extraction gas containing the impurities, this being passed through a discharge orifice. Separation of any residue takes place in a vacuum zone on the downstream side. The high pressure in the first extruder is maintained by a counter-pressure valve in the connecting pipe between the first and second extruders. By the separation of contaminated extraction gas from molten synthetic plastics material in a closed space, namely the second extruder, it is possible to achieve an ordered dissipation of extraction gas on the one hand and molten synthetic plastics material on the other hand.

  • Patent number: 5017457
Abstract: A presensitized printing plate for waterless lithographic printing is described which is composed of a substrate, a printing ink-repellent crosslinked silicone elastomer coating situated thereon, an intermediate coating of amorphous silicic acid or of an exposed coating of a photosensitive organic halogen compound and a radiation-sensitive coating. The intermediate coating effects a better adhesion of the photosensitive coating to the silicone coating and, consequently, a better resistance to developer and better print run of the plate.

  • Patent number: 4991471
Abstract: A three-point-contacting pliers for breaking glass along a prescored line has two opposing movable jaws. One jaw has a central projection. To provide an easy exact alignment of the three points of the closing jaws on the prescored line the other jaw, formed as an abutting member or anvil, is provided with a protruding flexible elastic circular ring which may be locked in a receptacle portion and which surrounds the central projection when the jaws are closed. To make alignment of the jaws on the prescored line even easier, the other jaw with the ring may be provided with a throughgoing hole coaxial with the ring which acts as a viewing window and which widens conically from the side of the jaw having the ring.

  • Patent number: 4973239
Abstract: An apparatus for the extraction of melt samples, particularly from continuously operating plastics processing plants, has a test sample mould which is connected to a melt channel via a transfer channel. There are provided a shutoff device and a device for transferring the melt into the mould. In the transfer channel there is arranged a suction piston which sucks the melt out of the melt channel into the transfer channel which in this case is opened simultaneously. In addition, there is provided a pressure piston for injecting this melt into the moulding chamber. An apparatus of particularly simple construction is created in this way and permits extraction of melt samples without the melt coming into contact with the atmosphere, no dead spaces at all being created at the same time in the melt channel during the time when no melt samples are extracted.

  • Patent number: 4934201
Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing samples from a plastic melt for measuring the rheological properties of the plastic melt in which melt samples are removed from melt in a melt channel through a hollow probe arranged transversely of the direction of flow of the melt, the probe having an opening for the inlet of the melt samples. The probe is elongated and is displaceable along its axis in a direction transverse of the melt channel while being rotatable around its axis so that the inlet in the probe can be placed in various positions in the melt cross section. The opening of the probe is disposed at the periphery of a circle lying in a radial plane around the longitudinal axis whereby samples can be obtained in a three-dimensionally extending region.

  • Patent number: 4917990
Abstract: A photosensitive printing plate for use in flexographic printing is disclosed, comprising(a) a transparent, flexible, dimensionally stable plastic film support,(b) an adhesive layer comprising a chlorosulfonated polyethylene, and(c) a light-hardenable layer comprising an elastomer. In the plate, adhesion of the light-hardenable layer to the support is improved.Additionally a process for the production of said printing plate is disclosed, comprising the steps of:coating a transparent, flexible, dimensionally stable plastic film with an adhesive layer comprising a chlorosulfonated polyethylene;applying a light-hardenable layer comprising an elastomer to the adhesive layer; andexposing the light-hardenable layer through the plastic film without using an original such that a thin, light-hardened lower stratum is formed on that side of the light-hardenable layer which is in contact with the adhesive layer.

  • Patent number: 4906551
Abstract: The invention describes a process for the post-treatment of developed relief printing forms for use in flexographic printing. The relief printing forms are reexposed in a customary manner and thereafter treated according to the invention, using a solution which comprises an organic solvent and, dissolved therein, an aryl- or hetaryl-bis(trihalogenomethyl)-s-triazine; they are then dried and briefly reexposed to UV light. The process of the invention eliminates the tackiness of the surfaces of light-hardened flexographic printing forms comprising a photopolymer and it also considerably enhances the resistance of these printing forms to air containing ozone.
