  • Patent number: 5146623
Abstract: A safety spectacles against laser radiation has a first frame part which is of integral construction and in which shields are integrated, which cover the area between the frame and the spectacle-wearer's face. This frame part is also drawn over the spectacle-wearer's temple area and forms temple plates. Fitted pivotably to these temple plates are side arms which are each integrated in a further plate which forms the continuation of the associated temple plate.

  • Patent number: 4869802
Abstract: In an apparatus for the production of coatings with a uniform thickness profile on substrates by cathode sputtering, a substrate carriage held and guided between rollers is provided, which can be driven through the coating chamber, and which has substrate disks rotatably mounted on its side facing the cathode. The axes of rotation of the substrate disks are disposed transversely of the plane of movement of the substrate carriage. On the side of the substrate carriage facing away from the cathode, a row of permanent magnets is fixedly disposed on magnet holders. The permanent magnets produce a disk current in magnetic disks which are joined for co-rotation with the pivot shafts of the substrate disks. On account of the disk current, the magnetic disks, and with them also the substrate disks, are made to rotate in passing along the row of magnets.

  • Patent number: 4866244
Abstract: An arrangement for machining material by means of a laser beam includes a laser and an exit window mounted between the laser and the workpiece to be machined. The exit window is made of a highly-interlaced plastic to substantially prevent a contamination of the window by means of material splatterings during the machining operation. The highly-interlaced plastic has a high elasticity in microscopic regions. Such a window made, for example, from allyldiglocylcarbonate has a long service life which extends to several days in automatically operating equipment for spot welding with a laser beam.

  • Patent number: 4744275
Abstract: The method and apparatus provide for transversely separating and laterally trimming or finishing continuously passing strips in processing lines for strip material, such as metallic strip. The strip is first severed in transverse direction and immediately thereafter is trimmed at the sides thereof. The time required for adjusting the lateral shears is approximately equal to that of the coil exchange operation leading to the time gained, and stoppages of strip in the operating stages are precluded.

  • Patent number: 4703522
Abstract: Laser safety eyeglasses include two protective filters for protecting the eyes against radiation from a laser. The eyeglasses include a frame having a main body defining two rims for accommodating the respective protective filters therein. Metal shielding plates are attached on the upper side of the frame as well as at the hinge ends of both mounting arms. The shielding plates stretch across the respective free regions between the frame and the face of the user. The mounting rims in which the protective filters are received as well as their connecting bridge are at least partially made of the same metal as the shielding plates.

  • Patent number: 4501593
Abstract: In the pelletization of particles of carbonaceous material improvements in pellet strength are obtained by applying a first water soluble or swellable thermo-hardening binder and a second binder which is an emulsion of a heavy hydrocarbon in such a way that the concentration of the first binder decreases from the interior to the exterior of the pellet, and the concentration of the second binder increases from the interior to the exterior of the pellet.

  • Patent number: 4280394
Abstract: A marine or naval firing weapon which is particularly suitable for fighting targets in zenith and additionally is capable of taking into account the movements of the vessel during aiming. The firing weapon comprises a first alignment axis which does not extend in zenith and a second alignment axis arranged at right angles to the first alignment axis. A support is mounted to be rotatable about the first alignment axis and a firing weapon is mounted upon the support for rotation about the second alignment axis. The first alignment axis does not extend into the target area and is inclined with respect to the horizon.

  • Patent number: 4046624
Abstract: A pressurized-water reactor with a core height of at least 3.5 m, is operated by using at least 50 measuring probes which are distributed throughout the core and which feed into a computer. The latter computes in advance a program of operation, by which individual control rods are adjusted, regardless of load changes, over the height of the core in such a manner that local power peaks are avoided.

  • Patent number: 3989202
Abstract: An apparatus for winding and unwinding a band has a horizontal shaft extending from a housing and carrying on its end an array of rings in which noncompressible metallic rings alternate with elastomeric rings. Axial displacement of at least the end rings of the array compresses the elastomeric rings and expands them outwardly away from the shaft and into engagement with the interior of a coil being wound up or unwound on the extending end of the shaft. Hydraulic actuating means may simply move the two end rings toward one another to compress the entire array, or each of the noncompressible rings may be comprised of two parts and spreadable by hydraulic pressurization of a compartment between them to compress the elastomeric rings. The shaft may have a frustoconical end snugly receivable within a frustoconical socket mounted via bearings in the housing attached to a drive motor for interchangeability of the shaft.
