  • Publication number: 20210084657
Abstract: There is provided mechanisms for transmit timing adjustment. A method is performed by a second network node. The method comprises obtaining an indication of beam link failure of a current beam. The current beam is used for ongoing communication with a first network node. The method comprises switching over to a backup beam of the current beam for continuing the ongoing communication with the first network node. The method comprises adjusting transmit timing for transmitting a signal as part of the ongoing communication in the backup beam based on earlier communicated timing information with the first network node before making any transmission of the signal on the backup beam.

  • Publication number: 20210068145
Abstract: A system and method of Random-Access Response, RAR, messaging when a base station employs narrow beamforming. Multiple RAR messages are successively transmitted from the base station to a User Equipment, UE, before any response to a RAR message is received from the UE. Thus, despite any calibration mismatch between Uplink, UL, and Downlink, DL, beams in the beamformed system, a RAR message is not only received by the UE, but is received over the most-suitable DL beam for that UE. Each RAR message may contain a message-specific scheduling-delay indicator in the UL grant carried in the RAR message to provide an adjustable time delay for the UE's uplink transmission scheduled by the UL grant. Multiple RAR transmissions can schedule a single UL transmission at a specific time instance or different UL transmissions at different time intervals. The UE may report to the base station the best DL RAR transmission detected by the UE.

  • Publication number: 20200404717
Abstract: A contending radio node is configured for attempting contention-based random access. The contending radio node obtains a timing advance sequence that is susceptible to contention. The contending radio node transmits, using the same transmission advancement timing, the timing advance sequence and a contention-resolving identity to a recipient radio node. Responsive to that transmission, the contending radio node receives a response signal that indicates a contention-resolving identity and a timing advance. The contending radio node resolves any contention in its favor when the contention-resolving identity indicated by the response signal corresponds to the contention-resolving identity that the contending radio node transmitted. The contending radio node, responsive to resolving the contention in its favor, adjusts its transmission advancement timing according to the timing advance indicated by the response signal.

  • Publication number: 20200404702
Abstract: A method in a wireless device for performing random access to a network node. The method comprises receiving a set of downlink beam-specific reference signals, BRS, from the network node, and determining a preferred BRS based on the received signal power for each BRS. The method also comprises selecting, based on the preferred BRS, a random-access resource to be used for transmitting a random-access attempt to the network node, as well as using the selected random-access resource when transmitting a random-access attempt to the network node, whereby the selection of random-access resource indicates to the network node which downlink beam is preferred by the wireless device to be used for downlink transmissions.

  • Patent number: 10834762
Abstract: Systems and methods for processing a Random Access (RA) transmission are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method of operating a radio access node in a cellular communications network includes receiving an RA transmission from a wireless device. The method also includes detecting an RA preamble in the RA transmission from the wireless device and estimating a timing parameter of the wireless device using the RA transmission from the wireless device separately from detecting the RA preamble. By estimating the timing parameter separately from detecting the RA preamble, increased detection of the RA preamble is possible while also increasing the precision of the timing parameter estimate. In some embodiments, this separation also enables a complexity reduction of the receiver if a low complexity detector is used first and then the high complexity timing estimator is only used when an RA preamble is detected.
