Abstract: In the handling of cigarettes in the region of a cigarette-packaging machine or the like, the first filling operation of containers, conveying sections and cigarette magazine (12) is problematic because the cigarettes (21) are conveyed largely under their own weight during operation of the installation. In order to avoid impairment of the cigarettes as the installation is filled therewith, the containers, conveying sections and the cigarette magazine are assigned supporting and guide elements which are moved downwards or horizontally within the (empty) spaces in accordance with the filling operation, with the result that the cigarettes pass into the corresponding space with support and guidance.

A lid front wall (19) and a box front wall (15) form closing edges which are located opposite each other, specifically a lid closing edge (34) and an opposing closing edge (35). Abstract: The invention proposes measures for controlling a production and packaging system for cigarettes such that a certain number of cigarettes (batch) of a certain brand or design are produced and the system is then switched off. This is based on a quantity which is to be produced, that is to say a specified quantity. Taking account of the actually occurring defective production at individual production units and subassemblies, the overall production requirement is determined and produced accordingly and packaging material is made available to the individual production units.

The latter is connected to a load cell (28) in order to determine the applied force as a function of the distance traveled. The characteristic deformation data or change in force at a precise, constant downward movement of the pressure plate (26) yield a reproducible, characteristic image of the pack (10) in question.

For this purpose, hot-melt adhesive is applied in a precisely positioned manner in the region of a continuous material web for producing the outer blanks (12), to be precise the adhesive is applied as rectangular or square side applications of glue (27) and base applications of glue (28). Thereafter, the outer blanks (12) are severed from the material web and are processed in the customary manner in the region of a folding turret. In this case, the applications of glue are activated by heat before, during or after folding of the relevant folding tabs.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for producing packs, in particular cigarette packs. A change in the type of pack makes it necessary for the operators carefully to provide the correct packaging material assigned to the new type of pack. In practice, this change of material often takes place incorrectly. The invention avoid errors when the type of pack is changed in that markings, which are assigned to packaging material of different designs and are provided on the packaging material and/or the carrier thereof, in particular on a core of the reel, and/or the pack, are used to identify the packaging material and to check it for correct assignment in relation to the type of pack which is to be produced.

Abstract: A single-piece hinged-lid cigarette box which has a collar (12) connected to a main section (33), in the area of a front panel (13) of the box, by tabs (34, 35), the collar being part of the single-piece box. A front panel (30) of the collar is provided with recesses (41, 42) in order to avoid a multi-layer structure in the area of the tabs (34, 35) which are folded into a Z shape (34, 35). At least partial areas of the folded tabs (34, 35) fit into these recesses (41, 42).

Abstract: In order to produce (cigarette) packs with an (inner) wrapper made of heat-sealable sheet material and with folding tabs which are connected to one another by sealing, first of all a cigarette group (11) is enclosed by a wrapper blank and following completion of the necessary folding operations, is fed to a sealing turret (48). The large-area coupon (30) extends over a plurality of cigarette packets (10), for example three, and is arranged at the side between a (front) wall (20) and the group of cigarette packets (10) or between the latter, namely between rows of packets (12, 13).
