  • Patent number: 11174032
Abstract: An aircraft structure, for example a wing, including a skin. The skin has an external surface, on an outer face of the skin. The skin has an internal surface, located opposite the external surface on an inner face of the skin. The aircraft structure includes a laminar flow control system including a compressor. The aircraft structure is so arranged that the exhaust air from the compressor is directed onto the internal surface of the skin of the aircraft structure, for example thus providing hot exhaust air which function as an ice protection system (whether by de-icing or anti-icing). A method of providing ice protection on a surface of an aircraft using exhaust air from a laminar flow control compressor is also described.

  • Patent number: 11017558
Abstract: Described herein is a method of registering a position and an orientation of one or more cameras in a camera imaging system. The method includes: receiving, from a depth imaging device, data indicative of a three dimensional image of the scene. The three dimensional image is calibrated with a reference frame relative to the scene. The reference frame includes a reference position and reference orientation. A three dimensional position of each of the cameras within the three dimensional image is determined relative to the reference frame. An orientation of each camera is determined to relative to the reference frame. The position and orientation of each camera is combined to determine a camera pose relative to the reference frame.

  • Patent number: 10909721
Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods of determining a pose of a camera within a vehicle scene. In one embodiment, a method includes the initial step of capturing an image of the vehicle scene from the camera. At step, reference data indicative of the vehicle scene is loaded, the reference data includes positions and orientations of known features within the vehicle scene. Next, at step, the geometric appearance of one or more of the known features is identified within the image. Finally, at step, the three dimensional position and orientation of the camera relative to the known features identified in step c) is determined from the geometric appearance, and a pose of the camera within the vehicle scene is calculated.

  • Patent number: 10843815
Abstract: An aircraft wing assembly including a wing having a main body 5 and a movable portion 6, so that the wing may be folded when taxiing. A lighting system is provided with a light source 9; a light emitter 11 arranged on one of the main body and the movable portion, and a light guide 10 arranged to transmit light from the light source along a path between the main body and the movable portion to the light emitter. The provision of a light guide between the light source and the emitter allows for light to be transmitted to the emitter across the joint 8 between the wing main body and the movable portion. Thus, lighting on the wing may be provided without the need to provide electrical wiring across the joint. A single light source 9 may be employed to illuminate multiple light emitters 11, 13 on the wing.

  • Publication number: 20200324871
Abstract: An aircraft wing with a root, a tip, an inboard wing part, an outboard wing part, and a junction between the inboard wing part and the outboard wing part. The inboard wing part has anhedral and is swept back so that it extends downwardly and aft away from the root towards the junction. The outboard wing part has dihedral and is swept forward so that it extends upwardly and forward away from the junction towards the tip. An engine and landing gear are mounted at the junction. An aircraft with a pair of such wings has a W-shaped profile viewed from above, and an inverted gull-wing profile viewed from the front.

  • Publication number: 20200322144
Abstract: A method is provided for determining a unique identifier of a device, the device including a quantum tunnelling barrier unique to the device. The method comprises applying a potential difference across the quantum tunnelling barrier, the potential difference sufficient to enable tunnelling of charge carriers through the quantum tunnelling barrier. The method further comprises measuring an electrical signal, the electrical signal representative of a tunnelling current through the quantum tunnelling barrier, the tunnelling current characteristic of the quantum tunnelling barrier. The method further comprises determining, from the measured electrical signal, a unique identifier for the device. Related apparatuses, systems, computer-readable media and methods are also provided herein.

  • Patent number: 10726576
Abstract: A method includes capturing images of a vehicle driver's face from a driver facing camera and images of a forward road scene from a forward facing camera. The images are analyzed to derive gaze direction data in a vehicle frame of reference. The gaze direction data are statistically collated to determine a frequency distribution of gaze angles. One or more peaks in the frequency distribution are identified and associated with corresponding reference points in the images to determine one or more reference gaze positions in the vehicle frame of reference. The one or more reference gaze positions are correlated with a position of the reference points in a forward facing camera frame of reference to determine a camera pose of a forward facing camera in the vehicle frame of reference.

  • Patent number: 10710737
Abstract: An aircraft fuel tank system including a fuel tank compartment for containing liquid fuel and having a float-activated valve arranged to become positively buoyant when immersed in liquid fuel so that the float moves up to a raised position which causes the valve to close and prevent liquid fuel from flowing out of the fuel tank compartment through the valve. The float is also arranged to move down to a lowered position in response to a level of the liquid fuel in the fuel tank compartment dropping, the movement of the float to the lowered position causing the valve to open and permit liquid fuel to flow out of the fuel tank compartment through the valve. A pressure-activated valve may be used as an alternative to the float-activated valve.

  • Publication number: 20200210733
Abstract: A disclosed method determines a distance from a camera to a face of a vehicle driver using information determined by phase detecting pixels of a digital image sensor of the camera. The method includes capturing an image of the driver including the driver's face and processing the image to determine a face region of the image. The method further includes determining a subset of phase detecting pixels of the digital image sensor that are associated with the face region of the image. A comparison of first and second image data generated by the determined phase detecting pixels is then used to determine a spatial image offset. The spatial image offset is then used to generate a first distance estimate of a distance between a region of the driver's face and the digital image sensor. The first distance estimate may be used to track the driver's head or eyes.

  • Patent number: 10657311
Abstract: A method and system for dividing up large image files, for example, a subsurface wellbore log, into smaller files or slices for faster analysis and for faster transmission. The transmission and analysis can be performed over a network system for display to a user to perform data interpretation, such as geological interpretations. The side by side comparison can be individually controlled and analyzed as well as synchronized manually for comparison. The data from one or multiple different logs can be viewed side by side as smaller slices of the whole while being able to independently vary the view depth of the data from each wellbore by scrolling. Well tops, and other subsurface data, can be interpreted and shown in the well log image with associated depth registration.

  • Publication number: 20200058091
Abstract: The embodiments disclosed herein relate to an address management system that includes a registration service for receiving and validating address information for a user. Validation of a user's address information may involve consulting authoritative sources of information such as a governmental agency. Once validated, the registration service may issue and/or enable a user code that may be used as a key for retrieving the address information for the user. When a user requests a service from an application that requires an address, the user may supply the user code instead of an address. The application may retrieve from an address server at least a portion of the address associated with the registered user code.
