  • Patent number: 7268678
Abstract: A receiving antenna with a rigid directional pattern, that is to say with an anisotropic receiving sensitivity of the receiving antenna, is used for localizing a wheel electronics unit in a wheel of the motor vehicle. Suitable evaluation of the received electromagnetic signals is provided in order to obtain a functionality achieved by way of the displacement or rotation of the directional antenna in the case of prior solutions. In this respect, a level of the received electromagnetic signal is compared with a predefined threshold value. As the result of the comparison, the wheel electronics unit is localized as being arranged in a wheel of the first wheel group or as being arranged in a wheel of the second wheel group.

  • Publication number: 20060033611
Abstract: A sensor unit for recording the direction of rotation of a wheel is embodied to record a variable that is characteristic for a direction of flow of an air stream in a tire of the wheel. To determine a side of a vehicle on which a wheel is disposed, a variable is recorded which is characteristic for a direction of flow of an air stream in a tire of the wheel. Further a direction of movement and an acceleration of the vehicle is recorded. The side of the vehicle is determined depending on the variable, the direction of movement of the vehicle and the acceleration of the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20060012475
Abstract: The device and the method enable the localization of transponders, particularly in motor vehicles. A determination of the distance of different transponders from the base station is made possible by evaluating the different request signals and response signals received and also the physical variables contained therein, such as signal level, charging time, and signal propagation delay. As a result of the relative determination of the different distances of the transponders from a base station, it is for example possible to determine the position of wheels of a motor vehicle. This means savings in terms of tire electronics, which require a separate power supply and are technically more complicated and more expensive to use than transponders.

  • Publication number: 20060006992
Abstract: A device and a method for determining a wheel position on a vehicle, for example an automobile. Long-wave antennae of a vehicle access system already present in the vehicle transmit a signal, which is measured by a long-wave receive unit of a tire electronic system and used to detect the position of the wheel on the vehicle. The electrical or magnetic receive field strength of the signal of a specific long-wave antenna for example is in particular detected by a tire electronic system and used to determine the position of the wheel on the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6108377
Abstract: A transmitter unit generates a carrier signal in the form of a periodic bipolar signal. The carrier signal has intrapulse periods between two pulses of different polarity. A transmission antenna is operated with the bipolar signal. To prevent the harmonic oscillations of the transmitted signals from having excessively great amplitudes, the intrapulse period is defined such that the amplitude of the first harmonic of the transmitted oscillation, ascertained by Fourier analysis, is greater than 90% and the amplitude of the third harmonic oscillation is less than 25%, in comparison with the amplitude of the fundamental oscillation of a rectangular oscillation without intrapulse periods.
