C., and at least one additional layer comprising a material which can be readily subjected to corona treatment, comprising the steps of (i) coextruding through a slot die the layers of the film so as to produce a multilayer film, (ii) solidifying the multilayer film by chilling, and (iii) orienting the multilayer film by stretching in the longitudinal and transverse directions.

    Abstract: A sealable film is disclosed comprising (i) a base layer comprising polypropylene and a hydrocarbon resin and (ii) at least one top layer comprising (a) an ethylene/propylene copolymer having an ethylene content of not more than about 10% by weight, (b) a propylene/1-butene copolymer, (c) a propylene/ethylene/alpha-olefin terpolymer, or (d) a blend of two or more of (a), (b) and (c), wherein at least one of said base layer and said at least one top layer contains an anti-blocking agent or lubricant and wherein the top layer contains a hydrocarbon resin. The film possesses improved barrier properties with respect to permeability to water vapor and oxygen, and which at the same time exhibits favorable slip properties and low shrink values.

Component II essentially contains an HDPE having an MFI (50 N/190.degree. C.) of from greater than 1 to 50 g/10 min, measured in accordance with DIN 53 735, or a blend of two components A and B. Blend component A is essentially an HDPE having an MFI (50 N/190.degree. C.) of from greater than 1 to 50 g/10 min, measured in accordance with DIN 53 735.

    Abstract: An oriented, multilayer polyolefin film is described. It includes a base layer essentially containing polypropylene, and at least one heat-sealable outer layer. The heat-sealable outer layer contains from 0.1 to 0.5% by weight of SiO.sub.2 which has been subjected to organic aftertreatment coating and has a mean particle diameter of from 2 to 6 .mu.m, preferably from 4 to 5 .mu.m. The ratio between the mean particle diameter and the outer layer thickness is in the range from 3 to 11. Also described is a process for the production of the multilayer polyolefin film and the use thereof.

    Abstract: A transparent, coextruded, multilayer polyolefin film which can be heat-sealed at low temperatures and comprises a base layer and at least one top layer applied on one side. The multilayer film has, at 120.degree. C., a longitudinal shrinkage of greater than about 10%, preferably from about 15% to about 35%, and a transverse shrinkage of greater than about 10%, preferably from about 15% to about 35%. The multilayer film has, at 90.degree. C., a longitudinal shrinkage of at most about 10%, preferably from about 3% to about 8%, and a transverse shrinkage of at most about 10%, preferably from about 2% to about 8%. The top layers have a minimum sealing temperature of at most about 124.degree. C., preferably from about 75.degree. C. to about 110.degree. C. The film is useful as a packaging film.
